My review is for the cafe, menu, service and atmosphere. My family has been eating in the Windbreak Cafe for 20 years. Ashley was our server - she was friendly, welcoming, knew the menu, was prompt with our order and checked in on us a couple times. The renovation of the dining area is attractive (with an Alaskan flair), welcoming and clean. The menu is small with great options and reasonable prices. Food was delicious, generous portions, fresh fruits and vegetables, and an attractive presentation. We recommend without reservation and suggest you give it a try.

The Restaurant side is always a local go to. Has been for many years. The food is very filling and hearty. Like most places the prices have raised some. But with the serving you get is worth it.

We booked a night at this place because it was a lot cheaper than other hotels near by and were not disappointed! We came in around 9pm and the bartender was very friendly when giving us our room key. The room was very clean and they even came in and turned on the ac before we got here. The building is historic which might make you think it's pretty out of date, but the rooms are not and was a super comfortable at home feeling! It was a great place for a shower and some much needed rest! Other reviews have complained about music and other noise levels and I can say with the bar shutting down at 10pm it was no issue at all for us. Even if they do have music playing you can only faintly hear it. The most noise comes from the major road right outside but that's to be expected. We did not go down to eat or have drinks but I am sure those are good too! I'm sure the next time we are in town we will be staying here again!

I booked yesterday through tomorrow and had an accident stepping off the foyer last night, rolling my ankle in a rivet of asphalt. The step off is about 9 inches and I didn't see the compromised asphalt. Thankfully, I didn't break any bones and there was a gentlemen just arriving to help me off the ground.

After spending a couple of hours in the hospital last night, I notified management this morning of the danger involved and expressed my hope that no one ever has to experience what I went through.

I didn't speak with the owner, as she was out of town, yet the manager Alenia notified me that she had.

The owner was very kind and offered to pay for any bills from my trip to the hospital, and any associated medical bills, as well as hiring a contractor to get the asphalt fixed.

The service and compassion from the folks here at The Windbreak was top notch, everyone was extremely pleasant and helpful, and I appreciate that more than they will ever know. Alina even had a staff member bring some ice to my room.

Things happen, in life, and I'm glad to be around people who still show empathy and warmth towards a stranger in a tragic accident.

A special thanks to Salena, Alenia, Alyeska, and the other staff at the restaurant and hotel, Peter from South Carolina was the gentlemen that helped me off the ground as I lay writhing in pain , Cory and Tyler from the ambulance, and the Matsu regional hospital staff, Hannah and Fran!

Oh yeah, the food at the restaurant was good, too!
