I visited Wildman Lake Lodge in August 2018 on their wildlife viewing trip. The whole trip was amazing! The hosts, guides and chefs are really friendly and skilled in what they do. The hosts made sure we took advantage of the good weather. Lots of wildlife viewing and a picnic lunch on the beach. The schedule was flexible to make sure each of the guests were catered for. I saw the walrus haul out and brown bears as well as moose, caribou, a wolf, a fox and sand cranes. When it got a bit windy later in the trip, the hosts made sure we had something fun to do. We went on a hike and another boat trip on the river to take in more of the scenery and look for wildlife. I recommend this trip to anyone who loves the Alaskan wilderness and wildlife. A huge thank you to the fantastic team at Wildman Lake Lodge for such an amazing experience πŸ™‚

My experience at Wildman Lake Lodge was unforgettable. The views, the staff, the food, all 5 stars in my opinion. I highly recommend everything this place has to offer. I was there for 3 weeks, remodeling the floors n bathrooms in the guest cabins. By far, the absolute best job I've had the pleasure of working on. I am forever grateful for the opportunity and the experience I had at Wildman Lake Lodge!✌️β™₯️😁

My husband and I had a wonderful adventure at Wildman Lake Lodge on the 5d/4n wildlife tour. For us, it was a 5-star experience! We saw walrus, bear, and fox; walked along the Bering Sea strewn with fresh bear, wolf and fox tracks; and tried a 1/2 day of fishing. The guest cabins are rustic and cozy, the food is delicious and more than plentiful, and the guides and pilots are excellent. We enjoyed getting to know the other guests, who ranged in age from 14-80 yrs. and were from all over the US.||||Here are a few things I wish I would have known before I went:||||1. The success of the trip is completely dependent on the weather. For us, it was occasionally glorious and mostly terrible (although good raingear helped tremendously). There are no roads so most activities include the use of either a plane, helicopter or boat. When the wind is blowing and it's raining sideways neither the plane and helicopter can fly and a boat trip can be a bit miserable (again good raingear is key!).||2. Getting to and from the lodge is also weather dependent. Because rain and low clouds kept the plane from flying safely, we left VERY late on the last day of our trip and almost had to spend another night (this also meant that the incoming group had spent 8 hrs waiting at the airport). Our plans for the next leg of our trip almost got cancelled. That being said, give yourself plenty of flexibility before and especially after your trip. ||3. Another weather-related tip: bring good raingear (I keep saying this) and lots of layers! It will make a huge difference in your enjoyment of the trip. It was hard to wrap my head around how cold it was going to be in AK when we were having 100 degree days at home. However, in AK, I wore 5 layers most days! ||4. If you want to fish you will need waders, not knee-high boots. We were able to borrow waders during our 1/2 day of fishing. There were times when we were hip-deep in the water so boots just wouldn't do. ||5. Wildlife viewing: seeing walrus seems like a sure-thing as long as the plane or helicopter can fly out to the rookery. There was also a red fox living at the end of the runway that was easy to spot. Seeing any other wildlife, however, is just the luck of the draw. We got very lucky on our bear viewing day and saw two bears fairly close and more than a dozen from a distance. There were other guests, however, who didn't see any bear. We spotted fresh wolf tracks on the beach but no wolves. We also didn't see any caribou or moose.||6. IF the weather is good, you could potentially see everything in the 4d/3n trip and save some money. But we spent a fair amount of time pinned down by rain and wind. An extra day gives a little insurance in case of bad weather. ||7. We were totally off-grid (no phone or internet) while we were there. You can pay another $50 for internet service. We didn't miss it except it was challenging when we thought we might have to stay an extra night and needed to cancel or change.||hotel/car/plane reservations. ||8. The plane ride from Anchorage to WLL (and the reverse) took just under 3 hours and included a quick refueling stop at Port Heiden. The plane held 8 people and there are no bathrooms (in case you were wondering!) And it's LOUD onboard so earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones are needed.||9. The pace at Wildman is very relaxed. There is no hurrying and there is plenty of downtime between activities. We loved it but it also took some getting used to. ||||Overall, we had a wonderful adventure that we will talk about for years to come! We made so many wonderful memories and would love to explore more of Alaska. We have never been anywhere as isolated as Wildman Lodge. I did go into it with expectations of better weather and more wildlife but you just never know. It's all part of the adventure!

Alaska Walrus Tours provides the direct flight from Anchorage to Wildman Lodge, in their tour package. Transfers are not necessary. It is a beautiful 2 hour flight, never crossed a road, fence or power line; mountains, glaciers, rivers, lakes and wilderness all the way

The subject says it all!! This place was beyond amazing. The nearest neighbors literally are walruses about 8 miles away! In addition to that we saw an eagles nest, and spent the day overlooking a lake frequented by bears (stopped counting at about 20). We got to observe natural bear behavior in their natural habitat. Also went on boat rides in the river and tundra walks and beach walks along the Bering Sea. We also used the helicopter to get places and wildlife viewing (super fun!!!). The river passes right by the lodge and it has the clearest and purest water I have ever seen. || There were 3 of us, myself, my husband and our adult son, so we had a duplex cabin - 2 rooms with a bathroom between them which was perfect. It was very comfortable, dark and toasty. The meals are delicious and very filling after a day of adventure. || But the biggest feature is the serenity and peacefulness of the area - it is so quiet and relaxing, a great place to escape the stress and madness of our everyday lives.|| ....and did I mention we saw walruses and this is one of the few places in the world you can reliably do so!!!

We've been to Wildman twice. Both trips were amazing! Between the fishing, beachcombing, visiting the walruses, and quality time with our family we couldn't have asked for a better vacation! The staff goes above and beyond to make sure your trip is seamless. Make sure you bring clothes with a little extra room, the food is amazing!

I should start by saying this was a trip of a lifetime and if we are fortunate enough to be able to return we will. I have been selling Travel for almost 25 years, and my family members are no strangers to Travelling on a global scale from Luxury to Lean-to's. Our group consisted of My Dad (85), My Mom (83 shh), My Nephew (14) and my Daughter (14) and I am just shy of 50. I should also mention we are not a low maintenance group. This trip was about making memories between cousins and Grandparents and believe me this was well achieved. We had come off a Northbound Cruise from Vancouver which was also out of our norm and I was looking for a Wildlife experience as my Dad is an avid photographer and so are the two kids. Wildman Lodge seemed to fit the bill with Alaska Brown Bears, Wolves, Wolverines, Fox etc and the top of the list ....Walrus!!! I am not going to lie I seemed to have missed the details that the flight could take up to 4.5 hours from Anchorage with various stops announced along the way, this sure added to the adventure (ya I now realize how far 500 miles is), Luckily it was non stop on the way back and with a nice tail wind took 2hrs 45. We were greeted with the whole crew from the Owner Butch and his wife,(true Alaskans on a legendary scale) Jason and his family who runs the place, the guides, the Chef and his assistants and the pilot. My Mom has a food allergy and was well looked after. The Food was excellent! The Rooms were well appointed and yes Hot water and heat, I didn't really realize what a feat that is until I figured out how out there we were. The weather didn't cooperate with us and as a result we couldn't do the exact itinerary they had hoped to do, but we all made the best of it, Tyler was excellent with the kids ,very patient and taught them how to fish, my daughter is hooked and my nephew who was out of his element was thrilled in the end. Greg was amazing with my parents who needed some extra care over what I think the typical clients at a Fishing Hunting lodge on the Bering Sea would need, in fact I think my Dad would go back just to hang out with Greg and for that I am very grateful. Jason takes his job and safety very seriously and the importance of that should not be overlooked. We saw Alaska Brown Bears just around the corner from the lodge by boat and in fact on the runway! (They are way bigger than I thought in person!!) If you are looking for a place to "harvest" ,I think they call it, one of these beauties then this would hands down be the place to come, if this isn't your cup of tea, don't let it put you off of going here as its a very specific time of year and a very niche market etc. If you are an avid fisherperson, look no further and even if you aren't you will be by the time you leave, the amount of fish was crazy. Walking on the beach on the Bering Sea collecting glass fishing balls from Japan, seeing Fox, Bears, wildflowers, huge foot prints of wolves and bears, catching fish, eating amazing food, going to see Walrus by a two seater plane....it truly is the most amazing place (full disclosure I am not a fan of small planes for some dumb reason, and due to the weather we did not take advantage of them being literally at our door step , but My parents were flown in to see the Walrus's and the kids were taken out for a scenic flight and I loved being in the river boats) Wildman Lodge really caters to your needs ..they even put up a Canadian flag. For the right person this place is amazing and for the notso right person this place will blow your mind... either way you will in no doubt be well looked after , by a knowledgeable, friendly and professional group. We are still buzzing
