I was excited about staying at this place but it turned out to be a HORRIFYING experience! I was very disappointed from the moment I walked into the door, other than the 2 cute little dogs. To begin with the owners Fred and Barbara seem very nice but they are way too old now to be TRYING to run a Bed and Breakfast Inn. The place is obviously not being maintained or cleaned. There was way too much clutter and dust everywhere. I checked into my room around 2:00 pm. I left to meet up with some of my family members for dinner. We were all in Tahoe for a big family reunion. I returned back to the B and B at 9 pm that evening. There were NO lights left on inside the place and I had to use my phone flashlight to find my room! When I opened the door to my room and turned on the lights I saw 3 inch CENTIPEDES crawling all over the carpet and crawling all over in the bathroom and crawling up the side of the bathtub!!! I was horrified!! I squished about 6 of them into kleenex and threw them in the trash but more and more kept appearing! Needless to say I got on top of the bed fully clothed with the light on and sat there all night long with NO sleep! I was afraid that Centipedes would start crawling all over me! I kept my bags packed and left at 6 am the next morning. On top of it all the owners asked for CASH up front which I didn't get back! I was reserved for 3 night and I only stayed that one night! I called her the next day and told her about the CENTIPEDES and she just kept saying "I don't believe it" but then admitted that there were often CENTIPEDES coming up through the bathroom drains!!! I felt like I was staying in a house of horrors!! The ONLY thing positive thing I can say about that one HORRIBLE night was that the view is amazing from their place. But I HIGHLY recommend NOT staying there! I took photos of the Centipedes and am posting them below. Another creepy thing is there are no locks on any of the guestrooms on the outside! I was totally creeped out staying here.

Since 2015, my wife Shelley and I have stayed here every time we go to Tahoe. Barbara and Fred are wonderful hosts!! You can't find a better place to relax with such attentive and accommodating hosts! Plus, the view of the lake from the wrap-around deck is literally "unbeatable" - you have an unobstructed view of the ENTIRE lake from on high! One summer day, while soaking up the sun on the deck, I watched a sudden rain spring up and glide across the entire lake. It was Heavenly. Besides the views, their home is an amazing feat of engineering ingenuity conceived entirely by Fred. Every room is uniquely interesting.
Our latest visit was this Christmas 2022. Barbara's decorations on the main level would shame anything seen in Vegas or Macy's.
The bottom line - - If you're a couple looking for a QUIET and lovely home to spend a romantic getaway from the crowds and noisy types that have overrun South Lake Tahoe...this is it!

Barbara and Fred are truly amazing, caring people!! The house is beautiful with an amazing "Eagle eye" view of Lake Tahoe. We stayed in the "apartment" lower level of the home but still beautiful views of lake from there as well!! We can't wait to return again. Great little hideaway for an elopement 😉 🥰 Brian & Crystal Pendergraft

We stayed here for our anniversary weekend and it was almost perfect... until the last 20 minutes. We got snowed in, unable to move our car until the snow plow got there. They told us not to worry about the 11 checkout time since we were stuck and they didn't have any other bookings for that room, they honestly made us feel like family. Despite being stuck, my wife was staying very positive, it being her first time seeing snow like that (and it was beautiful). At 1130 my wife and I went outside to try and dig ourselves out. We could only get the rental (grand cherokee) about 10 ft backwards and stuck in a worse spot in the middle of the road. It was buried up to the bumpers. We decided we were doing more harm than good and went back inside to pack up and wait hopefully for the snow plow. When getting inside Fred told us "this is no joke and people die here in Lake Tahoe" and Barbara told us that the longer we wait the harder it's going to be to leave. Not sure what they expected our reaction to be, being stuck there. My wife started crying and Fred told her to stop acting like a baby. The reality hit us then that we were in fact not with family, but stranded at a strangers house. We went down to get our things together and go sit out in the car to wait for the snow plow. A miracle happened, the snow plow got there just then. We were still stuck for another two hours but after towing our car out of the way, and plowing the road, we were able to back down the hilly roads and leave that place. The weather was not their fault, but calling my wife a baby for crying gets them 1 star. It's a shame because they were very accommodating and I really enjoyed our stay there up until that point and we were even planning to come back during the summer.

If you are looking for a canned, clinical experience go elsewhere. This lovingly built charming retreat is unlike anything you have seen before.

Our hosts Frederick and Barbara were welcoming and a joy to visit with. If you are a dog lover, you will fall in love with the tru Mistresses of the house Dixie and Slurpie.

We stayed in the Zephyr Cove room, it was lovely, and had lake views from each of it's 6 windows. The balcony outside our room was the perfect place to relax, and unwind.

I imagine we will come back, so we can enjoy the tranquility and splendor in other seasons.

The ambiance of the place alone is worth my money I paid To the owner Frederick and Barbara . beautiful and welcoming couple. Very direct people that is what I like. The house have a gorgeous character. Why I say character the owner himself build the house. The house is located overseeing the Zephyr cove where our MS Dixie tour everyday.
Our room surrounded by windows with the view of the lake. To me the balcony were I can see the lake was the best part of my stay. . We like the couple who owns the place. Breakfast is good.
Travelers who like to visit the place go to this bed and breakfast it is the best.
I personally recommend the place.

To find a 7,500 sq ft hand-built German-style home (more like a lodge) on a mountain peak overlooking all of Lake Tahoe is priceless. To have the family open a portion up as a B&B so you can spend time here is unbelievable. Every room, wall and corner is custom made. The attention to detail and decoration is breathtaking. Barbara and Frederick are awesome hosts and do all the work themselves.
I’ve read a few reviews with some minor gripes. To all that I say “If you can’t find a way to enjoy this treasure, try a Motel 6.”.
