Beautifully maintained historic property with very comfortable beds. Innkeepers are very nice and there are thoughtful touches throughout, such as earplugs if you are a very light sleeper; it didn't bother us, but there is a 4-way stop just outside the door so cars are constantly stopping and starting. The windows are all double paned so it is pretty muted. For breakfast, there are basics such as fruit and yogurt available downstairs, or you can walk a couple of blocks to some nice spots if you want a full cooked breakfast.

We very much enjoyed our stay and loved the room, the hosts, the little treats, and the property, we had a lovely time chatting with the hosts and other guests. I did mess up and miss that there is an email with a key code to enter the building, and when booking I had not been aware that the breakfast is more minimal than I am used to from a B&B. I worried about that, but shouldn’t have. They just happened to serve my usual mini frittata that I love for my breakfast and I loaded up on extras such as fruit and pastries.

Our stay at the Thomas Shepherd Inn was fantastic! We were in Shepherdstown for a family wedding, and did not get to take advantage of the beautiful seating areas and only was able to enjoy one of the breakfasts. Melissa , the host, was exceptional! She was very welcoming and gracious! We stayed in room number 4 - it was quiet and cozy, very updated, and had everything we needed. Will definitely be staying here again and look forward to enjoying more time in the garden!

This historic home is beautifully restored and amazingly CLEAN! There were many thoughtful amenities in the room. The location is excellent as well. All of the main shops and restaurants are within a few short blocks. The breakfast was fresh, and included baked goods, fruit and coffee, which the owners had picked up from various local spots. The owners are super-nice people who have obviously put a lot of thought and care into this place. I highly recommend the Thomas Shepherd Inn without hesitation. Our stay here was far superior to our various hotel stays of late.

My husband and I were lucky enough to find the last room available at the Inn on the weekend before Halloween. We were road tripping to celebrate our 20th anniversary and could not have been happier with the Thomas Shepard Inn. Joe greeted us when we arrived and gave us great ideas for the area & restaurants. The accommodations and proximity to the town were fantastic. BUT, the true pleasure was when they provided us with a private breakfast the next morning...it was very reminiscent of our wedding table dinner. Fantastic place, lovely hosts...wonderful memories. Thank you, Joe & Melissa.

We enjoyed our stay here after spending the day in Harper's Ferry. This is a beautiful old home, very cozy, clean, and well-appointed. The innkeepers were very friendly and fun to talk to. We enjoyed wandering the town a bit including the nearby university. We stayed in Room 1 which was spacious, including the bathroom; comfy bed and fun to have a fireplace. Situated at the front of the inn, there was a bit of road noise, but no big deal. The light breakfast worked just fine for us (would have preferred an earlier option).

This is beautiful home and the accommodations were very clean and the bed very comfortable. There were several welcoming places to sit, inside or outside. The sherry available in the sitting room was a nice touch. It was walkable to several good restaurants. Some complained about the noisy traffic in the front rooms, but we were not bothered. The innkeeper does provide ear plugs if you want. The breakfast was small-one hard boiled egg, fruit, yogurt, breads, juice, coffee served at 8:30. This is the only reason I did not rate this a 5. I felt for the price you should get a more generous hot breakfast. In the past this has been our experience with B&Bs. Never met the innkeeper, perhaps because we arrived late afternoon and let ourselves in with passcode to house. then key in our rooms door.

This B&B is the epitome of gracious southern living. Immaculately clean and spacious rooms, comfortable beds and modern bathroom, beautiful gardens and fantastic food! New owners Joe and Melissa are great. I really like their motto: come as a stranger, leave as a friend. This is exactly how we felt-we were visiting friends in their lovely civil war era home. All restaurants were within easy walking distance, and the bike trail was a short distance away. I love the upper back balcony and the birds eye view of the garden. The Inn is bike friendly, as is the town.

We will be back!!!
