Went to Kenova on a genealogy trip and wanted some local history. Tim was a great host and conversationalist. This place is a small museum so plan to spend time having him show you his artifacts. He makes a delicious breakfast and offered us a ride and rain jackets/warm gear for our venture to see the pumpkin house. I had forgotten to write the review until I got a package from him today with a shirt I had left behind. Thanks Tim for the exceptional hospitality.

Your host Tim , a retired engineer, author , and train memorabilia collector has recreated a train enthusiast dream come true in his 1907 former Trainmasters home. Charming company and delightful front porch sitting on a summer evening. The neighbor is loaded with charm, friendly neighbors, and the gentle rumble of trains passing through this delightful place. Tim's specialty crab and asparagus omelet makes you anxious to get out of bed and taste his culinary prowess .Don't miss the opportunity to stay in his delightful home.

Wasn’t sure what to expect from this B&B but it surely exceeded any expectations or pre-conceived notions. We were warmly welcomed by Tim and his Bassett hound, Missus. He invited us to sit down and after some chit-chat (he’s an amusing conversationalist) took us on a tour. This place is amazing. Everywhere you look you see pieces of West Virginia and railroad history. Tim’s knowledge and passion for the trains and industry is apparent and painstaking detail has been added to every room. Actual train cars and a ticket counter and lobby as it might have been in the 1940’s. Open drawers and you’ll find more memorabilia of bygone days. He has a fantastic collection of lanterns - everything is authentic and the old Victorian house - once the home of two Train master’s-has been restored to match the items in his collection. Upstairs we stayed in the Marshall Room. My husband is an alum and so is Tim and it also had details appropriate to the theme. A “We Are Marshall” movie poster hangs next yo bookcases filled with books on West Virginia history, legend, and lore. The very comfortable and clean bed was piled high with Marshall green and white and there were even some jerseys and green shoes hanging in the closet. Like I said, his attention to details is amazing. The bathroom across the hall was a slice of Americana itself with its freestanding claw footed tub and sink and an authentic water closet type toilet. Breakfast was scrumptious - Tim’s crab and asparagus omelets lived up to the hype and were served with toast and preserves or pumpkin butter. He also had coffee ready and an assortment of teas for the non-coffee drinker -yours truly. I believe you could go here multiple times and still see something you missed - there’s so much too see. He has a computer available for those who can’t unplug-but that would be a shame to let modern conveniences intrude on this fun and educational experience. The only caution is that there are stairs so those with mobility issues need to be aware. Parking is on street but if you like trains, Marshall, or West Virginis history you will not be disappointed. We were here for our 10th anniversary and may make this an annual tradition.

Tim Hensley, the proprietor of the bed and breakfast has collected antique railroad artifacts for many years and they are in it displayed all through the house. The viewing is worthy of the trip. All visitors are graciously welcomed and are given a tour through out the house and each artifact is explained where it came from and how to use it.

I was blessed to have stayed at this impeccable B&B 3 years ago on Veteran's Day. I was treated to a very interesting tour there. Last month my daughter & I stayed at Hotel Roanoke. While touring the O. Winston Link Museum, I was so excited to see 1 copy of the book I purchased from Mr Hensley, in their giftshop! I was told it's hard for them to keep them on the shelves at the giftshop

This is my Brothers establishment. A one of akind place where he will treat you like family and take you threw history and some historical items you don't see all that often. A place where you can relaxed and also have your mind blown by some artefacts.
