Absolutely loved our stay at the Royal Sonesta Portland. 100% will stay here again if we are ever back in the neighbourhood. Would definitely recommend to friends. Beautiful, grand, hotel with a warm and friendly vibe. We had a King corner room which felt like a room in a palace! Comfy bed and useful room amenities. You need to ask for room servicing at this hotel, you also need to let them know if you want a fridge etc. Given we were quite happy without any of this, this style of hotel management suited us PERFECTLY. Loved the gorgeous little details of this place.

I hate to adjust my reviews but what has happened is not okay. I left an item in my room and I have spent the last week trying to get it back. We made a lost report and never heard anything back. I called multiple times and every time I did, the front desk was less than helpful. I ended up going into the hotel to see if they had it. The front desk manager claimed that they did not have it and that they are not responsible for lost items. I left my property on the night stand. I am concerned that someone saw the opportunity to capitalize on my things and took it out of the room instead of turning it in. There was no make it right moment, no concern, or care from the front desk manager. I really liked this hotel. It is unfortunate that they are dishonest and poorly managed.

I loved staying here. I would likely stay here again if I needed to! We stayed in a king corner room. The rooms were gorgeous, the water pressure was great, I couldn't hear the people above me, and much more. I also believe the hotel is dog friendly.
I do have a few super minor critiques. I found it so strange that there wasn't a fridge in the room. Now, after you check in, you are given a paper with amenities and what not, and one of the things you can ask for is a fridge. Another thing I noticed was that the drawers in the bedside tables didn't open? I thought it was kind of funny.
The only big downside is the location. You hear everything outside from the train, to people talking, to cars simply driving by. It is so loud. There are also so many homeless people on that block due to the train stations nearby. There is also no parking on site unless you get the valet service. It is super close to the Portland Saturday Market as well as many restaurants.

I booked this hotel because they were listed as a dog-friendly hotel. Apart from having dog treats at check in, some dog bowls and a dog bed, I was super disappointed in what a “dog friendly” hotel meant. I asked about a relief area, to which they said they don’t have any grass around the property and I would have to walk to the waterfront. That was a nightmare especially because it was raining and cold outside. I have a 6-month old puppy who’s fortunately potty trained and was able to hold it until we would get to grass. But this whole experience made me dread wanting to travel with my dog. Front desk let me know to call when I want to have my sheets changed because they don’t provide that service every day unless requested. So I call to ask to have them changed, and they said their housekeeping team was already gone.. it was 3pm. Also $50 nightly valet I won’t be back. This was such a disappointing stay and I was truly looking forward to it.
Apart from the negatives, the location was good and nearby many things to do.

Location is perfect. Tons of great places to check out that you can totally walk to. Super fun vibe, I love whoever came up with the designs for this hotel. The room was perfect, nice and clean, nothing broken, everything worked. I liked the personal touches of things like the welcome letter in the room, it's just a nice extra you know.

Positive: The fireplace gathering area downstairs. Nice place to have some coffee, read in front of the fire and hang out to talk. Loved the high ceilings and classic furniture and big open space. Negative: Everything was fine. I maybe would suggest more security, like needing your keycard to get in the elevator. It seemed like any one could access the building with little to no security.

I had a very disappointing stay and would not recommend this hotel. I traveled to town for a concert and checked in, only to discover that the air conditioning in my room wasn’t working. I ended up running an hour late to the event because I had to wait for maintenance to determine whether they could fix it or move me to another room.
When I returned from the concert, I realized the TV wasn’t working. At that point, it was too late to call for assistance, so I just went to bed. The next morning, I noticed the bathtub wasn’t properly cleaned, it had visible grime and soap streaks, making me question the overall cleanliness of the room.
To make matters worse, I accidentally left my charger and a $500 bottle of perfume in the room. When I realized this the following day, I called the hotel and was told they would check and call me back. No one ever did. When I followed up, I was told a note had been left stating, “No items found.” When I asked the second concierge what I was supposed to do about my missing belongings, I was met with an indifferent response: “I don’t know what to tell you.”
For a hotel of this standard, the lack of customer service was disappointing. The one bright spot was the valet, who was wonderful, but overall, I wouldn’t waste my money staying here again.
For the price, expected much better. There are plenty of other hotels in the area that actually care about their guests-this isn't one of them.
