We loved staying at the Monarch! We always had easy parking, walk to restaurants, shops and waterfront right out the door. Our room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. We had a view of the water and the hotel offered dog-friendly rooms so we were able to travel with our fur baby. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will be back!

I have to say you get what you pay for. This is an old building with charm in a great location. Yes the rooms could be updated but then you would pay a lot more. I like that the furniture is age-of-the-building appropriate. The heat was easily adjusted to my liking.
The bathroom was adequate. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding clean; I have no bites so no bedbugs. Even though my room faced the street and it was blowing a gale all night it was quiet. I enjoyed my stay and would stay here again.

I am very pleased! Mary, the hotel manager I believe, was kind and helpful. My room was the Mini Suite 2 and I LOVED IT! The bed was clean, comfortable, and warm, four large pillows. No smoke smells or unusual scents. The room was charming, with original exposed brick for one wall.

Having snapped up the very last available room my expectations were low but my room was spacious, clean, warm, had two windows with lots of natural light and blackout curtains, a private full bathroom, a closet, a mini fridge and small coffee station, and was SO QUIET at night!

Lots of people were in town and many hotels and businesses were hosting Halloween parties (we were in town to attend the incredible Halloween party at Manresa Castle). I didn’t hear a sound all night after I got back (around 12:30am).

The mini suite 2 is located at the back of the hotel which felt private. This also meant that my window had a view of beautiful Port Townsend Bay and the nearby boardwalk. The hotel is surrounded by ample street parking, I did not have trouble finding a place to park. In fact, the hotel is right next to the old clam cannery building (very pretty) where there is a little turn around for vehicles and I was able to park there—only 50 feet from the mezzanine’s entrance.

I was able to shop up and down Water St. and drop my goods off as I went along. I highly recommend this hotel.

I'm only adding photos of the exterior because the hotels photos of the room are very accurate, nothing was different—in fact it feels bigger in person than their photos imply.

I'm not sure why this hotel has a 7.9 rating. It is clearly a 3 point rating. Yes, it is historic and it's right in town, and it was clean BUT the furniture is really old, beds are okay, the was TV, very small, and the windows had cold air coming through them. We couldn't tell if the heat was on or off. MOST IMPORTANT, is the fact that there is NO elevator and there is a very STEEP flight of stairs you have to climb to get you the rooms. The first flight alone is 34 stairs! If you are on the second floor, expect an additional 20+ stairs to climb. We had already stayed in Forks and Port Angeles, where the rooms were great and at a good price. We spend quite a bit more for this one and it was the worst one. We were very disappointed.

A beautiful 19th century building. A delightful place with a great view of the water. Be sure to book Room 15, it has the best view. No elevator, so pack lightly because you have to carry everything up three stories. Ten stars for me if they let me give that many!

We stayed one night on August 25th, 2024. We picked the hotel for the location, which is it's best and only great feature. The rooms were adequate, clean and basic. Everything was old, which can have charm, but much in disrepair. I did not feel secure with the push button lock on the door to our room. We had to enter around the back of the hotel which had decay and a scary staircase going down with a dead crow at the bottom. We didn't have to go down there, thankfully. There is no service, just a woman at the desk handing out a key. The shower drain wouldn't drain which means your feet get a bath while you shower. Foe 200$ it definitely was not worth it.

Stayed here two nights with my significant other. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Not great airflow if it's hot out but they provide fans. A big positive is the hotel is super close to all the restaurants and shops downtown. The door handles and railings are all super low due to its age being 130 years old but has cool historic charming feel that you can't get in a newer hotel. We got to talk with the new owners and they showed us one of the remodelled rooms which was super nice. Would stay here again.

Had a great overnight at this charming, historic hotel. We stayed in room 5, which is significantly cooler than it looks in the photos. In addition to the large, comfortable king sized bed, there is a daybed with trundle and, in a completely separate room, a ladder up to a lofted double bed. Our daughter loved having her own little private loft room, and my husband and I loved having the enormous bedroom all to ourselves! The balcony is enormous and looks straight out at the water, unobstructed except for a walking path and covered dock area out front. We could have easily spent several days here. We were here for a heat wave (temps in the low 90's) and the room was warm but not miserable. There are two ceiling fans plus they provided a standing floor fan which we placed in front of the balcony door. They had screens for many windows as well but we had no problem leaving the balcony door and other windows open, too, since bugs weren't really an issue. Overall, a super comfortable, unique, spacious place to stay!
