The room was small and basic, but everything had been thought out. Beds were very comfortable. The staff is first rate; very friendly and helpful. Great view of the water from the pier. We took the only available room with two beds that night, and it was a bit cramped, with little space for luggage. The wall between the two beds was a little awkward for two friends who like to talk at night and share TV, but this could be a boon for some, and there was a TV for each bed, tho' the placement was not very good for viewing. Price is excellent for what you get.

I am always so puzzled when people choose to stay at places listed as "cottages" or "Cabins" and then call what is clearly a rustic, affordable place that you can stay so you can spend your money on water activities get butthurt and write reviews using adjectives like "out of date" or "dump". This place is great. After spending two days down in Guerneville in a cabin that barely fit us and our luggage we were DELIGHTED with our spacious Studio unit here. It had a full kitchen so we could cook when we wanted to, two beds and a bathroom. Was it fancy? Nope. So what. That's not what you are paying for here. You are paying for a basic cabin experience with the expectation that you are going to spend your days on THE LAKE that the place backs up to. It has a dock and a grill out in the patio area and since it's now owned by the people next store, you have use of the pool at Anchorage Inn. Where by the way-if fancy is what you want and are willing to pay for? They have that next store. One and Two bedroom newly remodeled apartments in fact. They are remodeling the cottages on the Mallard side as well. But I love the cabins over there. To me, vacation on the lake is about being on the lake. And eating and sleeping in the cabin. We had a blast. We stayed on the other side for spring break and I really prefer a rustic cabin that sleeps many with a kitchen to a traditional hotel room. We hope to bring a large chunk of family up here next summer to do the best thing on the lake. JET SKI!!! The staff was lovely and helpful and upfront about was happening on the Mallard side on our trip. We appreciate them and we will be back.

This is an exceptionally nice cabin type setup right on the lake. I have to say I would rate this with the 5 star hotels. My room is immaculate, The owner, a young energetic lady is among the kindest and most friendly of any host I have ever come across. Often you will find her working in the flower gardens with her straw hat on or sweeping the parking lot and cleaning rooms. She gives her personal touch to every room. She does an absolutely amazing job to make your stay exceptional. I fully intend to return here with my family in the summer for a weeks vacation.

The owners of Anchorage Inn recently purchased this place. The office at Mallard House, where a full time Inn keeper used to live, is now vacant. There are multiple people living in the rooms here. The carpet is our room was filthy, the walls hadn't been cleaned in some time, and the shower had rotted flooring. I'm not picky for a hotel, but for what I paid for three nights, it was nowhere near worth the price.
More importantly, my travel partner had a laptop and iPad in a backpack that was stolen from our room while we were out in the water during the day. The door was locked when we left for the morning. The hotel manager refused to take responsibility for his property, and chances are my buddy will have to file a claims suit over it.
I rarely leave bad reviews. Most stuff isn't worth getting into it over. But if want a clean hotel room that you expect to leave your things in safely, this doesn't fit the bill

The man that checked us in was extremely helpful and even offered us a room upgrade. The cottage was a standard motel room with kitchen etc., was very clean but had thin walls. The view was amazing on Clear Lake with a dock leading out on the water. Would recommend for anyone passing through the area.

There is nothing fancy about Mallard House. We rented four "cabins" for two nights and will go back next year. The rooms are fairly small, except for #10, but they are clean. We had room 11, with a small kitchen. It suited our needs. The decor is pretty 70's, but everything worked. There was a flat screen TV, small table and two chairs. There was no closet, just a niche. The bed was comfortable. What we really liked was the little inlet with a double-decker dock; the top deck had seating and a view across the lake, and the bottom was used by fishermen (the man across from us caught 8 fish in one day). There are numerous fish jumping about and birds to watch. There's also a little lawn and a non-working hot tub. Oh, well. Lily, who runs the place, is very nice. Oh, we were asked to leave our porch lights on all night for safety reasons. No problem. There is no ice machine, but Safeway is up the street. It's a good location, near restaurants and shopping. Comfy and old-fashioned.

The Mallard House Inn located on the edge of Clear Lake in Lakeport, California is a peach. I can’t say enough positive things about this property, the location and the service.||||My companion and I booked The Mallard House on a whim. We felt we were taking a chance due to the low rates and a few less favorable reviews. We planned our weekend getaway for 2 nights/3 days. We didn’t plan on being in the room much, so figured if it was a lemon, we could stand it for such a brief visit. We were pleasantly surprised from the moment we arrived. The property is right on Clear Lake. As you pull into the driveway you have a view of the lake, the property’s private dock and raised lakeside deck. In addition to the handful of cabins, there is a beautiful shaded garden and patio with charcoal and gas grills for guests use, tables and chairs, lounge chairs, roses and wildlife.||||We were checked in by Lilly. She was very congenial and welcoming. When my companion asked about a lake view cabin she indicated none were actually facing the lake, but the lake could be seen from all the rooms – we booked a cabin with a kitchen – she gladly showed us 2 kitchenettes and gave us a choice. The cabins are scrupulously clean – immaculate in fact. Our cabin had a queen bed with very nice linens and lots of pillows – something I love. An easy chair, double closet and television in a cabinet rounded out the bedroom area. The kitchen had a full sized refrigerator, 4 burner electric stove, microwave and full sized sink. A cute little table and chairs became our activity planning center. Lots of maps and information about the area was provided. Dishes and cooking utensils are supplied as well as dish towels, paper towels and salt and pepper. It was all so clean, we were really pleased. The décor is a bit on the kitschy side and the cabinets could use a coat of paint. Other than that, no grumbles about our tidy little hideaway.||||We used the grill both nights we were there and took our dinner to the raised deck to eat, watch the sun set and have a little champagne. It was delightful. We had the deck to ourselves most of the time making it seem like our own private resort. The wildlife on the lake and surrounding areas was spectacular and plentiful. On a neighboring dock an angler hauled in some very large Bass which he released to swim another day.||||During daylight hours we explored the charming town of Lakeport, kayaked the lake (a boat launch is available on the property) and rode our bikes in the Clear Lake State Park. The park is very exceptional and is the cleanest public park I have visited anywhere. I plan to return there for a camping trip.||||We did have one negative while there. Right about sunset on the second night a young man fired up a power washer and spent a good half hour ‘washing’ his car. Aside from the very annoying noise, it seemed a waste of water for our drought stricken state and a real waste of power. We mentioned this to Lilly and shortly he turned off the din. He did however leave his car parked straddling two parking spaces. We didn’t see him again and the car never moved. A minor thing, but exasperating no-the-less.||||I highly recommend this spot for those looking for a place to go and enjoy Clear Lake with great amenities and a budget friendly price. Perfect for a spur of the moment get-away.

I am a nurse who travels to Lakeport for classes at the local hospital every couple of years and have been coming to stay at The Mallard for a decade and a half. It is sweet and quaint BUT needs a TON of work--the previous owners were not able to keep up with all the repairs. I met the new owners (they also own the Anchorage Inn next door) who acquired this property two months ago. Already they are working, upgrading, making changes and trying to improve the premises indoors and out. It is going to take MONTHS before they can get things fixed (paint, light fixtures, floors, furniture-- all to be upgraded. They had a few rooms available and let me choose which one I wanted, also offering a great rate next door which was kind and generous--they were very friendly and personable. But I love this old place with the little cottages and though it isn't fancy, I am thrilled someone has taken over who is managing, involved and doing much needed repairs. It is clean and I had my own little kitchen, quiet with good WIFI and friendly staff. Don't expect much now but I have ever confidence when I return in two years "The Old Girl" will be back looking fresher and younger. All the cottages are different, so it depends on needs and what is available. They offer the pool and spa next door; there is a tri-level dock overlooking the lake. Restaurants steps away if needed. Tip: I always bring my own pillows, these are thin. Rates are reasonable. Non smoking, yay! The owner is very hands-on and appreciates feedback.
