We had such an amazing stay at The Hancock’s House! It’s a beautiful colonial-style bed and breakfast that truly makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time—in the best way. We stayed in Mrs. Hancock’s room and it was absolutely stunning. Every detail in the room and throughout the house was so well thought out, charming, and full of history.

Simon, the host, was incredibly accommodating—always just a call away if we needed anything. We’re also super thankful for the delicious breakfast they made for us. It was the perfect start to the day and made the whole experience feel even more personal and special. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a unique, relaxing getaway with tons of character!

A Magical Stay at Hancock’s House – A Step Back in Time

My girlfriend and I had the most amazing time staying at Hancock’s House Bed and Breakfast Inn in Mrs. Hancock’s Room. Nestled in the overlooking view of Dubuque, Iowa. From the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping into a different era—like we were transported to the romantic elegance of the French colonial period. The house itself is absolutely stunning, with beautiful architecture, intricate details, and antique furnishings that tell stories of a different time.

But what truly left us speechless was the view. It was so mesmerizing, we literally mumbled in awe the first time we saw it. It's the kind of scene that stays with you—quiet, peaceful, and breathtaking.

Great view! Breakfast was delicious. Room was clean and comfortable. We stayed in the library room and it was quite spacious. The tub was very comfortable, deep, and clean. The owner very friendly and personable.

The only con is that it is street parking. My husband didn’t mind that it was street parking.

Note: some friends said the rooms on the second floor were a bit cramped.

We just celebrated our 10th anniversary with our 3rd trip to Dubuque. We have stayed at the Hancock House each time and are always impressed. The house is beautifully maintained and cared for with love. Rooms are beautiful with amazing views of the city and river. Breakfast is such a treat! We would certainly return!

I can honestly say that it was way beyond our expectations. The house itself was gorgeous as was the million dollar view we had from our room. The room was clean and beautiful. The breakfast was top notch, as was the history info we got from Simon (the owner) during. The staff was also so wonderful. My wife and I will be back and we will recommend The Hancock House to anyone. We'll done owner and staff. We are not easily impressed, but we are this time!!!!

My wife and I had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend. The house has a lot of antiques, which added to the ambiance. We enjoyed the group breakfast. Simon explained the history of the house and had good recommendations for day trips and local restaurants. We stayed in the Doll Room. The view from the hot tub was phenomenal. We definitely recommend the Hancock House.

We stayed in the premium room (Library) on the ground floor after an interesting check-in. The innkeeper does not answer calls or texts promptly so you may stand outside the door for a while. Parking is down the hill and you drag your bags up a steep incline and up tall porch steps to get inside. Others had to further drag their things upstairs to their rooms. On a positive side, the house details are beautiful and the view from the large porch each day was stunning. There was coffee and cups so I made a pot each morning. Some snacks were out to stave off hunger until you drove to your breakfast spot. Can't walk from here as it's on the side of a cliff. Public spaces are quite lovely and I felt like I was leasing a room at a museum, that finely detailed. Overall, worth the money.

Beautiful antique house from yesteryear with lots of character and a great view of the city. Each room has its own unique theme. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. Steps away from the steep steps leading into the downtown area and multiple breweries & coffee shops. Breakfast was nice. Driving distance to Galena and the field of dreams. If I ever ended up in this area again, I'd stay here in a heartbeat. Thanks Simon!
