We loved it. Perfect place for us and our two pooches. Location is fantastic. There’s even a little pet relief park directly across the street, which was super convenient in bad weather. The bed and bedding as well as the shower and (HUGE) bath towels were great. Quiet, cozy and steps from everything.

We had a 3 night stay in Galena and the Federal House was the perfect place to stay. It was easy to find coming from Hwy 20. The home itself is beautiful and comfortable. Guest rooms are very spacious! Including fireplaces, mini fridge, microwave- even dishes and glassware. Easy walking distance to Main street with all the shops as well as the river park. Morning breakfasts were delicious! We were always asked for preferences and offered options. I highly recommend this B&B!

We had the nicest stay at the Federal House! Our suite was perfect and so charming along with the rest of the house. You can’t beat the location! You can pretty much walk anywhere! Both Kate and her husband were great! LeAnn was wonderful and so much fun to talk too and the breakfast was delicious and very filling. First trip to Galena, but will definitely be back and stay at the Federal House!

What a wonderful weekend getaway! Kate made us feel so welcomed and went above and beyond with the details. The room was very homey and clean, the breakfast was delicious, and you can’t beat the location. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go (if your okay with some stairs)! Would recommend to anyone that is looking at visiting Galena! Looking forward to our next visit.

This was our first stay at a bed & breakfast and we were not disappointed. Kate is so warm and welcoming and strives to make sure that you have everything you need. She is also a wonderful cook and will happily bring your breakfast to your room should you choose to have it there. The room was wonderful, with a seating area in front of the fireplace, a nice little dining table, king sized bed and a large wardrobe to store all of our belongings The bathroom was spacious with a walk in shower where you will find shampoo, conditioner and body wash, a good sized sink area also supplied with soaps and separate little room where the toilet is nestled. There was also no shortage of bath linens. There is also a small kitchen area supplied with mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker and electric kettle, dishes, glasses and utensils. Kate also provides you with coffee, and a variety of tea's as well as some microwave popcorn and a small dish with chocolate covered goodies. All in all we had a wonderful time and we will definitely be revisting Kate in her sweet little bed and breakfast! Oh, and it's within walking distance of downtown Galena which is another plus!

This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast, and our first stay in Galena Illinois, Miss Kate, and her husband Doug we're great company and informed us of all the things to do in Galena. The rooms are big our room had a couch, a huge bed, mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot, all the amenities of home.
Complete with a shower big enough for two to move around in. We will definitely return to Galena , and we'll be staying at the federal house again. Five stars

We feel so fortunate to have found this place. Federal House is a historic home that combines a B&B experience with two private suites to choose from. The one we stayed in was both cozy and luxurious. The three of us spent a lot of time around the fire. There is a lot of antique period furniture, including an old fashioned desk that is a great place to put a laptop. The bathroom is large with top notch amenities including two sinks and a separate private toilet area. While there is not a full service kitchen, you'll find a sink (small), fridge/freezer, microwave, and countertop. There is also elegant silverware, plates, basic kitchen implements pots etc...Because of the pandemic we often ordered in. Breakfasts are ample and delicious, with everything home-baked and prepared. The owner and innkeeper are both warm and helpful. Also, can't fail to mention Lily, the cat, who is so friendly she'll win over even the most skeptical when it comes to house pets.
