Not only is the exterior of the hotel disgusting, but the rooms windows do not have curtains that actually cover the windows. So a trip that was meant to be relaxing and allow me to sleep in, was the exact opposite. As soon as the sun rose, so did I. Because the shades did not cover the windows even a little bit!!
Don’t get me started on the continental breakfast with no coffee and frozen waffles without syrup because they did not have syrup!!!!
I just don’t understand how places even stay open that are so obviously needing to close.

This was once a Best Western hotel, and it defeats me why it still isn’t. Magnificent building, with large rooms. It really could be spectacular.|However, the rooms are dreary, with various shades of brown. The website photos show rugs, but there are none, leaving an endless, cold underfoot expanse of brown. The rooms need colour added, and generally updating. A fridge just placed randomly on the floor was unacceptable, as there was a cabinet in which it could be placed. All a bit lazy and complacent.|It is overpriced for the time of year we stayed, as the pool was obviously not going to be used. |Breakfast was poor, with few healthy options, and the same eggs, meat patties provided three days running.|Staff were welcoming and efficient.|Noise. Not the fault of the hotel, but pretty bad. Trains run pretty constantly just below the hotel, sounding their horns excessively. It is an on going issue for Encinitas

The only experience saving this review falling to 1 star is the fact some staff members were helpful. I travel a lot for work and i needed a really goodnight rest but wasn’t prepared for the loud train passing by and hearing the horns. The heater/ac systems is very old and loud! The breakfast the same each day and is very simple. The cleaning staff didn’t clean our room for 2 days then we were told we need to let them know to clean… that’s a little odd. The staff member he was very kind with our checking out and answered the phone. But If he wasn’t working then our call to front desk weren’t answered by the other staff members. If you just need a place to sleep and don’t care about the hotel comfort experience then this is for you.

Very convenient location off the #5 and near Coast Hwy. The staff are very kind and helpful. The rooms are adequate (maybe a blanket that pulls all the way up to the pillows would help taller people). The breakfast is average and could be improved or simply go to one of the great restaurants on Coast Hwy.||For business in the area, it is a great option. It is best to pay extra for an ocean view room on the 3rd floor with a low 300's number. The rooms on the East side of the hotel with higher numbers have quite a bit of freeway noise and the view is mostly of a shopping center parking lot (The "Parkview" is really "Parking Lot view with freeway noise."||I will continue to come to this hotel when I am in the area.

This was one of the strangest experiences I have had staying at a hotel before. On the positive side, the room was clean and had none of the mold issues on the shower head or elsewhere that other reviewers have discussed. Maid service for the room does not come everyday and you are told this is the case in the informational booklet in your room. But when your room is made up, it is clean, with new towels, and all your trash removed. You can walk from the hotel to the main drag of Encinitas (Coast Highway), where all the shops and restaurants are, but it is at least a 15 minute walk each way. (We went to a fantastic Mexican restaurant (Cocina De Barrio), but you need to drive there, as it is quite far down the Coast Highway.) A lovely ocean beach is one additional block down Encinitas Boulevard. On the downside, staff is young, energetic, and somewhat helpful, but not very professional. The complimentary breakfast is lacking in any variety with the exact same items available everyday- juice, coffee, granola bars and muffins individually bagged, waffles or bagels to toast in one of the two available toasters, three choices of fresh fruit (but the bananas were ripe just one day), some small yogurts, or name brand cereal boxes (with milk, cream, half and half, butter, cream cheese, and artificial maple syrup.), An ocean view room takes an effort to see the ocean past the train tracks and the highway. Last, but not least, the train blowing its horn all day and night gives one a "My Cousin Vinny" vibe.

Broken elevator and broken vending machines. Plastic flower necklace from the last person who stayed in the room left in the middle of the floor. Long black hairs covering the bathroom. Every corner of this place is neglected. Shower is moldy. Guy behind the counter (long black hair) could care less about his job or anything we complain about. I’m embarrassed to stay here and won’t be returning.

Avoid this place at all cost. Do not believe what is posted on their site during booking because they do false advertising. When we arrived and checked into the room, it was totally different from what was advertised. Then, they switch us to another room but claim that they would adjust the cost "when the manager" is there but the manager is never there (hiding somewhere). By the time we checked out, they said they would adjust the price before charging. However, they billed for the room that we did not stay in.

The reviews seem to give a lot of hate for this hotel. The rooms are older but at least the king room we had was at some point refurbished with a nice tv, nice bed and a decent view on a large balcony. Bathrooms have decent showers, the only negative is the water has a bit of a odour. Details that are missing is there are no plugs on the side closest to the balcony. The bottoms of the door frames in the bathroom are heavily rusted out. The walls that lead to the corridor and the balcony seem to be not very soundproof which leads to pedestrian noise/road noise. All in all for what we paid we were happy, would stay here again, seems like all the coastal hotels that are not 5* have pluses and minus, this one was pretty good all around.
