The Cardinal Hotel - Palo Alto, California

I had stayed in this hotel twice and both my experiences were wonderful. The hotel was centrally located in downtown Palo Alto.

There were so many restaurants and cafes within steps from the hotel. Stanford was nearby, accessible by foot or Marguerite. Super convenient.

Hotel staffs were always helpful and attentive. The front desk staff Yadira Cruz was so lovely during my latest visit. She was very kind and super helpful.

Room & Amenities 5/5
Room was nice and clean. There is no AC in the rooms but one does not need AC in the area. It was chilly even in June when I was here last year. Heat is more important and the heat in the room works great.

I will definitely come back here the next time I visit. Highly recommended!

The room was spacious and comfortable. Staff at the front desk were excellent. It would be nice to have some curtains on the windows, which would help with light and sound. Very convenient location. Being able to store luggage after checkout was great.

We have stayed at the Cardinal many times over the years and love it for its old world charm. It’s our preferred Hotel in Palo Alto.|It is always immaculately clean and cozy. The beds are very comfortable.|This visit we chose a room with a shared bathroom/shower. The hotel was busy but it wasn’t an issue of waiting at all.|You can walk everywhere.|So glad these Gems still exist

If you like old and historical, this venue is for you. If you're a business traveler trying to be productive on the road, not so much. ||Great location in Palo Alto. Easy walk to great restaurants.||The hotel and the furnishings are dated. The Wi-Fi is insufficient. The desk chair is insufficient for sitting and working. The bathroom is small, without room to unpack your toiletries. I cannot imagine staying here with more than one person in the room. Be ready to walk up and down the stairs. There is no gym, so that's your cardio for the day.

The Cardinal is over 100 years old and has kept its grand old-timey feel even with modern refurbishing.
The upper floor has rooms from back when showers were uncommon and people washed at the in-room sink. The toilets and showers are shared on this floor (and the prices are much lower).
If you're willing to step out of your idea of how a hotel should be, it's a nice, simple but elegant experience.

This is a 100 year old hotel with great atmosphere. I like the high ceilings and light in the whole hotel. There are shared bathrooms and washrooms but these were clean and there was never a problem with access. The hotel is surrounded by a great variety of restaurants including a very nice breakfast restaurant next door.

The location is great - with lots of restaurants, cafes, and bars in the same block. The room was lovely, and the staff were incredibly helpful. I am delighted to have stayed there and highly recommend it for anyone visiting Palo Alto/Stanford.
