Staff were very friendly and helpful but it's fairly apparent this is a place of a bygone Era.
The food left much to be desired, I had gotten sick from the seafood risotto and shrimp I hadn't even finished due to being so undercooked. My husband found the French toast sickeningly sweet and inedible. Stating the bread reminded him of bread pudding.
Evidently on the upper most floor one of the rooms bathroom is down the hall and across from the stairs.
Which wouldn't be a problem if our wonderful neighbors didn't have the foulest bowel movements. The smell permeated the 2nd and 3rd floors multiple times a day.
As in fashion with any older building, the sound travels. So we got to enjoy a rowdy dinner party from the 2nd floor at 10pm and our amorous upstairs neighbors celebrating their 1 year anniversary at midnight.
A beautiful inn, but I won't be returning.

We spent our first anniversary at the Ashby Inn and thoroughly enjoyed it. We stayed in the Adams room in the old school house - highly recommend those rooms. Working fireplace with plenty of wood was a real treat!!! Great porch to enjoy the sunset. Well appointed room - nice to have robes, bathroom amenities, plenty of ice in the room and a comfy bed!|Staff was very helpful - even got us more ice to chill our champagne and brought us nice wine glasses. |Breakfast was wonderful the next morning. Service at the restaurant was outstanding (thank you Andreas for making our anniversary and my husband's birthday the next day so special!) |Thought the price for the stay, including breakfast was very reasonable. We will be back.|Only recommendation I had was that they might consider some throw blankets for the rocking chairs on the porch. Would have been a perfect addition to a crisp, fall sunset.

Nice Inn in a beautiful part of Virginia. Had narrow stairs to get to our room which had a private bath but unfortunately we did not realize at the time of the reservation that the bath was down the hall with up and down stairs to get to. Room was comfortable as was the bed. The Inn's breakfast was great.

What a wonderful one-night stay we had! The crackling of the fireplace, the balcony overlooking the mountains as we sipped out coffee in the cool air. So close to so many wineries/restaurants. The village is so cute. The breakfast was amazing. The staff was so helpful and accommodating. We're thinking about when we might want to come back again!

The inn was quaint and the bed was comfortable. Fireplace was a really nice touch.
The Restaurant service was excellent but the prices vs the quality and quantity of food was ridiculous !
We would definitely stay at the inn again but would go elsewhere for dinner.

What a delightful B&B. We stayed in the Lafayette room which had beautiful vaulted ceilings and a cozy fireplace, ad a delightful dinner and a lovely breakfast. Staff was terrific, food amazing. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time at the Ashby Inn this November 2024. We had been there before and it was every bit as charming and comfortable as in the past. The rooms are wonderful, the scenery from the balcony beautiful and the staffs efforts to make our stay great were successful and appreciated. The included breakfast were superb and Caleb's service was exceptional.

We have visited several inns in Virginia, as well as others in New Hampshire, and the Ashby Inn remains one of our favorites. Our room was well furnished and comfortable. Dinner was outstanding, as it has been in the past. Excellent food and first rate service. The selection of wine by the glass is well matched to the cuisine. On this trip, we stayed in the Fan Room in the main house. Last trip, we stayed in the Adams Room in the Schoolhouse. We enjoyed both locations. It only takes about 30 seconds to walk from the Schoolhouse to the entrance to the main house, so distance is not a proglem. Pick your room by the amenities, such as queen bed vs king bed or shower vs tub, not by the location in one building or the other. This was our 4th visit to the Ashby Inn. We will be back.
