My family and I had the honor of spending the afternoon with Don as we attended his fly fishing class. I am an experienced angler, my family is not. However, this was my first time using a fly fishing rod. Don made it enjoyable for all of us. I never thought I would see the day my Dad learn to fly fish. He is a motor and speed kind of guy if you can catch my drift. Don was able to teach MY DAD to slow down and learn the skills it takes to successfully cast and follow through. I will never forget the experience we shared together. I recommend anyone in the area looking to learn a new skill or just simply enjoy the outdoors contact Don for a lesson.

Don was very accommodating and flexible in scheduling a private lesson for four adults. We met at Sky Valley for a 3-4 hour introductory lesson, but he went above and beyond to ensure all of our group had plenty of hands-on instruction and practice. ||We finally had to leave after nearly 5 hours, but Don would have stayed with us all day, and even suggested coming back later that week to really fine tune.||He has an entertaining approach, albeit a little scattered. Lots of anecdotes and little nemonic tricks to remember each piece of the cast. We have been repeating the sayings for days||I hope to make it back for another lesson.

Karen & Don were great hosts - we enjoyed our stay at Streams & Dreams. The location was wonderful - easy to find, away from the busy lakefront, and close to parks & streams. The backyard includes a brook with a small waterfall, which provided a nice background sound for reading and relaxing on the back porch. Breakfast was outstanding. Don had great suggestions for things to do and see in the nearby parks, and Don & Karen took us on an interesting walking tour of the trout stream that was next to their home. Don also provided a memorable fly fishing lesson (I promise to practice at home!). We will plan to stay again when we are in the area.

We just happened to be driving by on our way to the state park for a day on the river when we noticed the sign for the property. My father and I had heard rave reviews for years about the owner, Don, and his ability to teach fly fishing. We stopped for a second to take a picture of the sign for later reference when he came out and started chatting to us. Minutes later he offered to give us a mini-lesson just for stopping by. I believe that I learned more about fly fishing in those 30 minutes he was teaching than I had in almost five years of doing it myself. His small little tips were incredible, and have already improved my fishing abilities. You can tell how passionate he is about fly fishing just from speaking to him, and I look foreward to staying for the full lesson course sometime in the near future. Streams and Dreams is literally a minute walk from the river, and you could not ask for a better location or views. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn how to fly fish from a true master, or to just relax in the serenity of the mountains

We had a fantastic visit with Karen and Don. What a hidden gem tucked in the valley of the mountains. The river is directly across the street and perfect for trout fishing. Karen and Don gave us a walking tour of the area and showed us all kinds of interesting flora and fauna. We had such a wonderful time relaxing, hiking, and enjoying the scenery. They had great tips on what to do in the area. Don gives fly fishing lessons and is a patient teacher. We had a fantastic breakfast and lots of interesting conversation. I think Karen and Don know something about everything. It was great. I was sorry that we had to be on our way. The good news is this is a 4 seasons area. I’m sure it’s beautiful in the fall and is a short drive to Wisp Resort for winter skiing.

I thought I new about fishing. I was in the stone age. From what I learned from Don (and Karen) I have improved 100%. You will learn some fundamentals that immediately pay off in more species, bigger fish, more fish and more fun. If Garrett County is your fishing destination you will learn to fish Deep Creek, Broadford, Savage River Res and Jenning Randoplh Res as well as streams and creeks. No Don I will not ice fish ! Had a great time learning from Don. After our lesson I feel as if I could give someone a lesson with all the stuff we had learned. He is extremely knowledgeable and his teaching style is very entertaining and fun. If you are looking for a lesson he’s your guy.
