I’m honestly unsure what the hype is about this restaurant. It’s extremely stuffy in the restaurant with basically no air flow. The food is pretty good but too expensive. The wine menu is almost entirely led by bottles instead of the ability to buy by the glass, and perhaps the most ridiculous item (of which I’ve never experienced in my whole life, from fast food to Michelin star) is when they charged my husband to take bell peppers out of two dishes they said they’d be happy to adjust. He is ALLERGIC TO BELL PEPPERS. If you don’t want to make alterations to a dish, just say you can’t. To charge customers who are spending $200+ on dinner for each (tiny) dish change due to an allergy (not a dislike) is insane and makes your “nice” establishment look low class.

Would not recommend. There are much better places to eat in the Tahoe area. Go there.

We ate at Soule Domain in Kings Beach CA, at Lake Tahoe, on Thursday June 20, 2024. I had steak and hubby tried the grouper from New Zealand. It was sooooo delicious, even though hubby said I murdered the steak by sending it back a couple times, even though I ordered well well done, but I cannot eat it if it’s pink. I’m sorry. But they said we’ll fix it to your satisfaction. Our meal at Soule Domain was the best meal we had eaten on our whole vacation. We would definitely eat here again. I highly recommend it.

Went to this restaurant the week of Christmas. We always make reservations because it’s busy and the restaurant is very small. Food and service are always exceptional. This is my favorite restaurant in Tahoe / Kings Beach. Food is always so flavorful and delicious. Love this restaurant. I go there every time I’m in the area.

Made a reservation midweek for a table in the main dining room near fireplace. Instead of cleaning an available table in the main room, we were seated in the back room in between restrooms and kitchen.
We sat dumbfounded for several minutes without being greeted. When we decided to ask if we could be moved it felt like we were putting the staff out. At our new table we were not given a wine menu, it took so long to be helped that we put in appetizers before wine. Appetizers came out before our bottle, which felt like something that could have been made a priority given the fact that we had waited so long to be served and had been sat at the wrong table. There was no apology or acknowledgement of the error on their part with the table or the slow service. Upon exiting our coats were tossed out on a bench near the door like unwanted houseguests.

To be clear, our server was very friendly and helpful. Maybe they were understaffed- communicating this to us and being apologetic would have made us feel better. Instead we were just confused. For the price point, we were left really disappointed with the customer service from the hostess/manager. Quite a bummer given that we were really looking forward to this night.

LOVE this place. (Understatement.) Such a warm and rustic decor with a working fireplace, amazing staff, and sauces to die for. (Take the extra bread - Steve says you will want it for dipping, and he was not joking.) Every dish I’ve had here has been phenomenal. The chicken thighs with mustard sauce and the scallops are nothing short of exquisite. Worth every penny!!! One of my very favorite places to eat on the North Shore!!

Edit 12/23 - added pictures of my latest meal here. Everything was fantastic as always - got the special scallops and snapper with the cheesecake.. delightful.

4 of us Had dinner tonight. It was perfect. The food and wine were outstanding starting with the scallop appetizer ,then salads , Ohno fish, sole fish and filet dinners then finishing it off with bread pudding, a chocolate cake, port and coffee. Our waiter has been there for over 35 years and made some outstanding recommendations. The restaurant is small but very enjoyable with an actual wood burning fireplace. They did not rush us as dinner was a 3 hour adventure with our taste buds. We will be back.

We had made these reservations two weeks in advance. Since we'd be coming on our first year anniversary, I called ahead to see if special could be prepared. The (supervisor?) I spoke to Susanne said they had some options. They agreed to Champagne at our table and a note on our dessert.
When we got there, only the hostess seemed aware and said Happy Anniversary. That was the extent. Our waiter didn't know. No champagne was waiting. Dessert had no note. I was very disappointed! I had spoke with the hostess just that afternoon. It was a little thing that would have meant a lot. The service felt lacking.

That being said, the food itself was also underwhelming. There was nothing I would go back to eat again. The plates looked like something from Denny's. It felt like food trying too hard to be fancy instead of just being good.

I would not recommend. Especially not for a special event.

Best spot on the north shore for a relaxing dinner. Small and intimate. Wonderful food and service.
