overall, the rooms were not great, but could have been worse. the rooms itself was not ideal, but the staff was nice. there were many holes in the walls, and the surfaces were dirty. moreover, the kitchen utensils still had food bits on them and was greasy. room service is supposed to pick up trash outside the door but never comes. moreover, the whole place smells like somebody had been smoking, although you can’t really smell it from inside of your room, only when outside. the free breakfast is nice. very few towels provided. the bed sheets had holes in them and had stains on them. the couch is clearly worn out and has stains on it as well. the whole room just wasn’t sanitary. front desk staff are very friendly and helpful though.

From one of my volleyball families this past weekend 2/2025:

Just wanted to drop you a note re the AZ hotel we stayed at this past weekend (Sonesta ES Tempe) - Our volleyball team might not want to book that hotel anymore in the future haha...
My personal experience - my room was old, dingy, with suspicious dark red stains on the carpet (ew), stained bathtub, just cups/no dishes in the kitchen, poor bathroom amenities (no shampoo, conditioner). I hear other families had similar experiences - one of the moms even had to clean her own tub upon check in because she said it was so dirty. Customer service was not great either - it seemed they were completely unprepared for the volume of guests from the various local events. We still had a great time hanging out with everyone this weekend, but just wanted to let you know for future reference re this hotel.

The best thing about this place was the staff, front desk Alexandria, I believe, for one was extremely pleasant and helpful.

The room is not so clean. I didn't even want to touch the front door, it was disgusting. Asked for them to come and clean again, highlighted a couple things and that is what they did. Internet do not work. The vents to this place were all disgusting. Windows the same. I'm trying to post pictures but can't...stove and oven were filthy. My bathroom..don't ask.
I would NOT go back to this property or any other under this umbrella.

The rooms were overpriced, and the mattresses were awful. I stayed a total of 10 days and experienced Marijuana smokers outside my room. A lot of staff looked busy but did nothing. The hottub never warmed up. The maids and 1 new maintenance man were the most helpful.
A late short duration breakfast, which offered a limited selection with dishes that looked dirty, and with food and coffee often cold, which was unappealing. The food improved as it got busier. The overall cleanliness was not great. Dusty dirty vents and in the crevices, and I had to have both sinks worked on. The office personnel were always friendly, and the manager was not. The location near the mall for the aquarium was the highlight.

Positive: The rooms were a good size and the price was very reasonable. Negative: The rooms weren?t very clean. We had crumbs in our drawers, streaks all over the T.v sliding mirror along with a print of either a hand or foot. NO IRON! had to leave at 9am with wrinkled clothes.

We didn't even stay the night. As soon as we walked in the suite smelled of marijuana very strong. The bed sheets and pillows are extremely worn and feel grimey. One bathtub drained very slowly, the towels were very worn and did not give a very clean feeling. One bedroom had what could have been mucous wiped on a wall and one nightstand had some very sketchy dried up liquid on it. One bedroom door handle was hanging off so it might be easy to get locked inside. Overall, the layout of the suite is nice and the kitchen was decent but I would not recommend this place. We chose to leave because we have three small children with us and the environment did not feel safe or clean. Unfortunately, we paid for two nights and cannot be refunded. If one MUST stay here, ask to view the room before paying. There is potential here, it just needs better cleaning.

The young lady at the front desk was very sweet but there was nothing she could do to solve the huge problem with this hotel. The first sign was the dog poop along the walkway. When I got to my building, there was a woman sitting on the stairs smoking - not far from the very obvious sign saying "no smoking in the area around the building" - and put her cig out in a big gulp drink container 1/2 filled with water....and then stashed it in the corner for what turned out to be, for later use. My room: stank, the toilet seat was up and there was used toilet paper in the bowl and when I put the seat down, there was hair on the lid. The kitchen table was filthy and the doorknob & lock both had some weird goo on it. The room had 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel. I was put into another room which stank from cigarette smoke, and - other than the toilet - was just as bad. I tried to make a go of it but when I tried to use the closet, one side wouldn't open, the other one came off the track, and the track itself was so disgusting that I have not words. By the time I was booking a room elsewhere, my friend - also booked into the same hotel - told me SHE was having issues; all pretty much the same. A THIRD friend came out and said that in her room, somebody had used the toilet but didn't actually flush. (We're in town for a business meeting....) I didn't realize that, as an extended-stay property, it caters to people that pay weekly and need "wellness checks" if they decline housekeeping. When I left the property 2 hours later, the dog poop was still there....The facility is unsanitary such that I will also be contacting the Health Department.

This is not a terrible room in and of itself. But not a clean room. There were stains in the carpet. A register vent that’s filled with fully visible dust and dirty build up. Hairs on the walls of the shower. And a bug in the bathroom sink. Also when we first got to the room, the TV was on and the couch was pulled out into a sleeper bed, which we didn’t need or want. All sketchy. I would not stay here again.
