This was by far the best excursion of our trip. Captain Lance was very accommodating, experienced, knowledgeable, fun and did everything he could to provide a great experience. We saw several whales, sea lions, an otter and a grizzly bear fishing for salmon. The boat was the perfect size so that we could all move around and see from every angle. We loved the experience and highly recommend Captain Lance.

Went on an Alaskan cruise near the end of September (2024). Booked a wildlife tour with Captain Lance in Sitka. It was the highlight of our cruise excursions. Captain Lance picked us up at the cruise ship dock. He was easy going and informative about everything. He got us really close to whales, sea lions, and bears among other animals. We even had an amazing rainbow while we were heading back to Sitka. He dropped us off downtown so we could enjoy Sitka before we had to get back to the ship. We highly recommend taking the Paladin Tours with Captain Lance.

A once in a lifetime experience with Captain Lance at the helm! Personalized bear, whale and sea lion observation/experience. I was part of a small group of 4 plus the captain. The boat was stocked with snacks, beverages and plenty of binoculars for all
Captain Lance’s passion and enjoyment in delivering a wonderful adventure was evident from the very beginning. He was diligent in explaining the safety procedures, showing all where to find necessary items in case of emergency. Life jackets, fire extinguishers, bear spray and the like. The captain was strategic in taking us to see 2 bears in the wild, first (ahead of the other tour boats). The boat’s nimble size allowed us to get very close to the shore and take amazing pictures and video. We passed sea lions hanging out on buoy on the way to see the bears. At times , I felt like a kid in story book when a burst of spray emitted from a whale was seen on the horizon and Captain Lance kicked the vessel into high gear so that we could close before the whale submerged under water for several minutes. The highlight of the experience was being within a few yards of a momma and baby whale who stayed near the surface long enough to say, “Hello” and ‘pose’ for once in a lifetime pictures and video!
Captain Lance was super friendly, knowledgeable and a true pleasure to be around!

We saw this tour while going up the ramp to the bus stop from the port. Lance is an amazing tour guide and really knows his stuff about where the animals are and the land and water they call home! We saw a variety of animals including bears, otters, sea lions, and humpback whales! His tour was by and large one of the best things (if not the best thing) we did on our entire cruise. His tour is a must-do for anyone visiting this port!

This is a great tour. We saw a few whale sprays, a bear and several sea lions. Lance was very personable and knowledgeable. The reason 3 stars is I really think maybe we should not have gone out that day. The ocean was very rough and I mean the boat was literally bouncing above the water. Lance handled the boat well but the 6 of us were coming out of our seat. Had my husband & I known it was going to be so rough, we would not have went because 9 weeks ago I had vertebrae surgery. It sounded like "hey I can show you whales, bears, sea lions, on a fun excursion", no forewarning or asking if there were any health issues. Hindsight, I should've asked but honestly it was presented as a calm trip. During the bouncing he asked if I was ok and I said I had vertebrae surgery and was trying to control the jostling. But we stayed in the rough area for a while longer. Once we were in the cove, calmer area it was a fantastic ride. I know I said about the surgery loud enough because when it was calmer, a recently retired nurse sitting behind us asked if I was feeling ok. Come to find out, 2 days later our cruise had to bypass Icy Strait & Ketchikan due to a storm producing 30 foot waves. I am guessing that's why the ocean was so rough on our day, the upcoming storm. Now we are back at home, I've had a burning sensation where I had the surgery since finishing up the tour. I'm going for x-ray hoping no damage was done because before getting on the boat, I was doing fantastic. I'm scared but hoping it's just sore from the bumpy ride and not damaged. I think maybe an error in taking the boat out that day but that is just my opinion. Like I said, he did handle the boat through it all expertly. Otherwise this is definitely a 5 star tour but health concerns should always be addressed.
