My son, GF, and I stayed here for two nights while skiing in Mt Shasta.

Two big reasons I paid over 1K, for two nights on this location was the jacuzzi and the fireplace. Both were emphasized in pictures and listed as amenities on the listing. To me a cabin without a fireplace and jacuzzi is not a cabin. I could have easily spent a 1/3 and saved an hour drive each way if that was not my priority.

A couple days before leaving the owner asked to chat about check-in. Yes he is very detailed, lengthy, and unnecessary as other reviewers have said, but I was ok with it

Oh that call he started that there was an issue with a neighbor and a burn pile a couple weeks before and that I could not do any fires as per the fire department. I took him at his word and moved on.

Problem #1 - untrustworthy owner

As we arrived the first night I messaged him because I wanted to confirm that his no fires asper the fire department did not include the indoor fireplace, he said that it did include the inside fireplace and went on a unnecessary rant about how he told me it before I checked in and "NO FIRES" were allowed. Yes, all caps several times was his mode of communication. He also went on a rant about how he is a Dr and treats all the local firefighters.

I knew right of the bat he was lying, bans on outdoor fires are common in the area, but never on an indoor fireplace. I asked him for clarification, but he insisted indoor fires (fireplace) were banned by the fire department.

The next morning I called the local fire department, spoke to a firefighter who confirmed there was no burn restrictions for my specific address. I told her the story of the owner and she transferred me to the assistant chief who also confirmed that not only was there no burn restrictions. He also confirmed that they never restrict inside fireplaces.

I gave the owner the benefit of the doubt and messaged him several times in the span of over a week with the time and names of who I spoke with giving him a chance to clarify, and he never responded.

Simply put, he is a liar. I can understand not wanting renters using a fireplace because of risks, but if that's the case don't list it as an amenity.

Problem #2 - usability

None of the outdoor chairs had cushions making them useless. The main bedroom downstairs was missing pillow case covers.

Problem #3 - cleanliness

The kitchen drawers were super dirty with droppings in most of them. Fridge still had the blood stains another renter reported over a year ago. A pillow case had blood stains on it. Cobwebs everywhere.

On the positive, the view is beautiful and with an honest host and a better cleaning service it would have been one of my top stays.

Beyond the view, there's nothing "dreamy" about this property.

The home was covered in cobwebs & mice droppings with active mice in the ceiling (have fun sleeping). On top of this, Ken watches you on his many cameras around the property - and messages you about his findings to ensure you feel properly spied on throughout the stay. Very creepy, very dirty.

Paid $1750 for a few nights and we were counting the days to leave. When Ken sent a request for another $200, because he saw my 8 year old was with us on camera, I genuinely laughed.

Your entire listing is dishonest and certainly not worth what you're asking, Ken.

Attached are a sampling of the mouse droppings in the Kitchen, Family room, and Master bedroom. Hire a real cleaning crew, instead of making your guest clean the house for you, and your property wouldn't look so disgusting.

Edit: Airbnb isn't exactly known for keeping up 1 star reviews, hardly holds any merit in countering the clear as day photos of mouse poop in and around your home.

Unfortunately because of the California fires and drought we were unable to enjoy. I recommend you check before making the trip and any reservations.

I used this Lodge to bring my multiple family's together for the first time. This home is truly magical, the views and the character of this home made for an amazing birthday. We played boardgames all night and watched the sunset together on the final day. I couldn't have asked for more. The food service provided by Lori made us able to visit the whole time without worrying about anything. Ken the owner made sure we had enough towels and firewood to last us our stay. This was by far my best experience with any vacation rental home I have ever had. I love this place and I hope we can come together every year.

Couldn’t have asked for a more comfortable place to stay to enjoy Lake Shasta with my family this Fall. We stayed for a week with 6 of us and had more than enough room. The views from the entire house are insane, having a panoramic view of miles of the McCloud River Arm. We took a couple boats up with our group, parking was super easy at the house and boat launching is less than 10 minutes away at Packers Bay, very convenient. The owner Ken is a great guy and makes sure all accomodations are immaculate prior to the stay. I will definitely be back!

The view is great and the cabin is cozy with plenty of room. The hot tub works well and is nice to relax in at the end of the day. We only stayed a couple nights here on a work trip so we didn't get to take full advantage of such a nice location. Hopefully one day we can return just for fun.

I don't believe we stayed at Shasta Lake Properties, we rented a house through VRBO 18241 Skyline Dr. LAKEHEAD, CA. The view was awesome! And that's about it. Far enough from the lake you should invest in a boat slip. The house was dirty. The basic cleaning of dishes, dusting, and spider webs was below satisfactory, the mattresses had pee stains, comforters had blood or 'man juice', towels were dirty, refrigerator door was broken, garbage compactor wasn't working, the owner charged extra per person even though the house sleeps 14, and cameras watching you. The view is the only thing this house going for itself.

Incredible, the view is breathtaking and the owner really makes you feel at home. The food I got from the on-site cook was great and they really went out of their way to make my stay perfect. I'd recommend Shasta Lake Properties to anyone looking for a one of a kind getaway!
