Absolutely delicious!!!!
My mother and I had spent the morning at a classical concert, and on our way back to the car, we could smell the promise of a scrumptious meal. Arriving at Saw’s, we found it very busy, but luckily, we arrived in time to snag an empty seat.

The food was excellent. I highly recommend if you ever find yourself in the area, check this place out!

As others have said: you will eat the best fried chicken sandwich here that you have ever eaten, and ever will eat. Juicy, crispy, tangy, fresh, and generously portioned. It's apparently brined in sweet tea, to be honest I can't taste that at all but it's good chicken anyway. Also they have "the good ice" and the actual sweet tea hits a faithful Southern-level of sweetness.

This place looks just as unassuming as when it was a Fat Sam's, and the fluorescent lighting doesn't do photography of the food any favors, but it's run by a small staff who all do excellent work. They also sell independent artists' work here sometimes, which is neat.

They warmly greeted, and then served some of the best smoked and fried food. Brisket, chicken wings, chill, hush puppies, Mac n cheese, banana pudding, pork rinds (skins) and this lemonade with basil and sweet tea chicken

This was the BEST sandwich I’ve ever had! I ordered the Pastrami Reuben with a side of mac & cheese…. Unreal! I also tried the Smoked Brisket Sandwich and it was melt-in-your-mouth good! The staff was incredibly friendly and the atmosphere was cozy and warm. The man that took our order was absolutely lovely and was a pleasure to talk to. Highly recommend coming here if you’re ever in Birmingham!!!

The smoked chicken meal was stellar! The meat was moist and tender. The red and white sauce were complementary and delicious! The cheese grits were smooth and tasty. I was quite pleased and impressed!

So, I was waiting for a family member to have surgery at UAB Highlands and decided to take the short walk down to Saw's BBQ. (2 blocks away) Just walking up, it had a very established vibe, and the inside of the restaurant felt the same. Upon entering, I was greeted and shown a menu that I posted. I always feel like a great BBQ restaurant can be judged by its Brisket, so I decided to order the Brisket sandwich with a side of fries and a tea. The cost was $21. The sandwich comes with grilled onions, pickles, and a horseradish sauce, and the lady who brought it recommended their BBQ sauce as well. Let just say that I made an excellent choice and will be back to order something else on the menu. But then again, I may just have to order that sandwich again.

If you are looking for actual barbecue and not baked meat, then this is the place for you!!! They have an old school offset smoker in the back and the smells in the parking lot are to die for. The food was truly amazing and the staff was very friendly and made you feel like you were visiting old friends. Everything we had was delicious, but the brisket was on point, the wings were perfect and the Mac n Cheese will make you slap yo mama!!! We stopped by on our way back from Arkansas to South Carolina and are already planning to go back just to eat here!

I’ve been in the Birmingham area for a while and this was my first time having Saw’s! It was amazing. I let James know it was my first visit and he took his time explaining the menu options to me. I had the Boss Hog with a side of fries and shared the Smoked Sausage Hushpuppies with my coworkers. Definitely the best BBQ I’ve had in Birmingham!
