River Ranch Lodge & Restaurant - Tahoe City, California

My husband and I had a 5 night stay at The River Ranch Lodge March 5th-9th. We were recommended the Lodge from our future daughter in law Courtney who is a server in the dining room. The front desk staff were so welcoming and friendly and of course accommodating. Danielle couldn’t have been any sweeter!! Our rooms were very nice and inviting, and we were pleased to have streaming apps available to enjoy during our time in the rooms. We started each of our mornings with the wonderful continental breakfast seated in the restaurant looking out to spectacular views of the river. The morning wait staff were very willing to help in any way possible. We enjoyed two outstanding, dinners during our stay. The evening atmosphere in the restaurant was very cozy with nice mood lighting. The servers were very knowledgeable and so lovely! Our first night stay we enjoyed dinner in the restaurant. I ordered the Caesar salad and the buffalo wings. Both were plated very nicely and were delicious. The buffalo wings had a unique smokey taste. Our last evening stay we again dined in the restaurant. We started with the Crispy Brussel sprouts and Shishitos. YUM! For my i had the fillet that was served with mashed potatoes and Broccolini. My fillet was cooked to perfection and the meal was very delicious as well! What a delightful experience. As a whole our stay was just lovely!

I had just one area that needed improvement, and I noted it on the comment card the morning we checked out.The shower head in our room had a terrible spray and suggested it be replaced. Today just 8 days after checking out that that shower head has already been replaced!
Danielle was kind enough to send Courtney a little video showing the new shower head and how nicely it worked. Courtney shared that video with us and we were very impressed how quickly that problem was addressed. This shows how much they care about the comfort of their visitors…but we already knew that from our stay!

It is beautiful place and very convenient for our ski trip. It’s located between Tahoe city and Trukee and only 8 min drive away from Alpine meadows. There are free ride share services. The room was ok for a few days active trip, not suitable for a long stay because there is no space to eat or drink in the room. The bathroom was outdated but fully functional. It was nice of them to provide grab and go breakfast especially before hitting to the slope.

They need to upgrade their WiFi system. I did a speed test from my room it was 1.5 on Friday, 1.7 on Saturday and 12.6 on Sunday. My cellphone had a speed of 87.6. I had a very poor customer service experience with the manager of short stature, just a description, on Saturday and she ignored me on Sunday. She told me she didn’t understand anything about the WiFi and claimed it had problems because “we are in the mountains.” They must take this issue more seriously. It is a real problem. The manager is quite well known in the community and seems well liked by the locals at the bar on Sunday. The food at the restaurant is really good. Just don’t order the Poke Bowl on Sunday it’s not fresh. The hotel is very close to the entrance to one of the resorts.

We had the worst service experience. The waitor was nice but all distracted since the beginning. He mixed all the order. But that wasn’t the worst, at the end he took our credit card to make the charge, and he lost it! Not only he lost it, he have us the credit card from another client. The manager was very unprofessional, he came to our table, asked what happened and then never came back. At the end we were looking for him to see how he was gonna help, and we never found him. We left our name to the waitor so he could call us, and no one did anything after 3 days. We called today, and they said the card just didn’t appeared. Just like that. And just to add to the terrible experience we had, our table was infront of a glass door that had trash cans in our view instead of the river. Top 3 worst experiences in a restaurant

The rooms are nothing special, but the place has incredible charm and history. Great location to easily get to Alpine, Squaw, Truckee or Tahoe City. Restaurant has excellent food, wine list is ok, service is wonderful!

This is a beautiful location right on the river but the lodge needs a lot of upgrades. Our room had a hole in the bathroom wall, screens on sliding doors were torn, hot water took 5 minutes to get warm, pillows were old and lumpy, stains on chairs on patio , bathroom heater kept shutting off. No ice machines. You have to get ice from check in desk ( which closes at 5:00) or bartenders. We were in room 26 and there were lots of stairs. It was hard for us to carry suitcases up because we have back problems. ||The good things were the patio that looked right at the river, extra blankets and good coffee and shampoo. ||The large outside patio was very nice but cocktails were $16 and beer was $8. Small lunch menu for patio but also expensive. Other problem was lots of dogs and some wouldn’t stop barking which was very annoying if you want to enjoy the patio and river. Nobody told these people to please keep the dogs quiet.

We decided to stay here solely by chance and we were VERY happy with the decision. The rooms are great and the food at the restaurant was excellent! This is a must try and the bar is great. Truly where the locals go but probably don’t tell anyone.

What a beautiful feeling, waking up to the sound of the river flowing. This place is super cozy and the staff is amazing, especially Sonia working in the kitchen, went above and beyond taking care of me and my family. Ms. Banga at the front office is also very sweet and helpful.
But definitely be BEAR aware, we had encounter the very first night when we were unloading our car.
