Ride Above Disability (RAD) is an therapeutic horseback riding program that provides life-changing experiences for individuals with special needs. As a volunteer, I feel truly privileged to be part of this inspiring community. The program not only promotes physical strength and coordination through riding but also builds confidence and emotional well-being for every participant.

The dedication of the staff and fellow volunteers is heartwarming. Everyone works tirelessly to create a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment. I am deeply grateful to be part of such a compassionate team, and I sincerely thank all the hardworking individuals who contribute to making a positive difference in the lives of those with special needs.

If you’re looking for a program that genuinely cares about its participants and their growth, RAD is truly one of a kind.

I went for volunteer training. The RAD program is well organized, the horses are loved, thoroughly trained, and properly cared for., and the instructors are enthusiastic. I have not seen student lessons yet, but I’m expecting it will be a wonderful experience for all.

The owner (Wayne) is a heartless man! He attracts volunteers in the name of helping disabled kids. Especially, if you have a little accent or don’t look like him you will be definitely out of luck. I must say the instructor (Katie) is an excellent instructor and a beautiful person.
My son was going to this place for more than a year. This year they canceled his sessions at least 10 times. They sent me invoices for this month and $235 for the sessions he never rode. So, I paid this month’s invoice with the intention of paying the rest on a later date as I have paid for a long time. Then he calls me right at the time my son is supposed to ride and says ‘I won’t let your son get on the horse until you pay in full’. So, I told him to send the invoice again because the “pay button” was disabled on the previous email, and I couldn’t stand the thought that my son will not ride while there. He gets really really upset in situations like this.
While waiting for the email, I was telling him on the phone please let him ride. He refused. In any case, they took their time and I got the email close to 3:50 and he rode for 10 minutes or so...
The long and the short of it is that he behaved outrageously without the smallest concern for how a kid would be negatively affected all the while pretending his business is helping kids.

Shameful behavior. Truly SAD!

Full disclosure: my sister is one of the founders of RAD. I could not be more proud of the work RAD does. They offer therapeutic riding and horsemanship to any disabled rider. They operate with multiple horses and work with all skill levels. With decades of horse experience and skilled instructors, RAD is a fabulous asset to the community.

I really like this place, compared to Partners in Lakeside. Its much closer, the staff is friendlier. The horses are sweet too. They take safety very seriously
