Reno’s Roadhouse in Wise offers a mixed experience, balancing standout steak quality with a few missteps. The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the steak: perfectly cooked to the requested temperature, showcasing excellent flavor and tenderness. However, it was served cooler than ideal, which slightly diminished the overall enjoyment.

The kitchen’s attention to detail left room for improvement, particularly when it came to honoring special requests. For example, condiments were added to a dish despite a clear request to omit them, a small but avoidable oversight. Additionally, service, while warm and genuinely pleasant, was on the slower side. This delay, paired with a casual atmosphere, might leave diners waiting longer than expected for a steakhouse of this style.

Overall, Reno’s Roadhouse excels in the core offering of a great steak but stumbles on the execution of finer details. It’s a spot worth visiting if you’re willing to overlook some hiccups in exchange for flavorful, well-prepared meat and friendly, if slightly delayed, service.

We were traveling home from out of state and happened to see this place when we stopped for gas. We needed a good meal and thought we'd give it a try.

My spouse had the teriyaki chicken, which she thought was just okay. I had the nachos and the same thing, just okay.

Our waitress was nice and attentive.

Love the dining experience, here. The food is always temperature-perfect and served up by friendly wait staff.
The baked beans are a must eat! I like the ribeye over the sirloin I was talked into trying. Some say no difference, I say H U G E difference! I have yet to try their desserts-maybe tomorrow?❤️
My only complaint is it’s too dark in the dining area. My 87 yr old Mother brought that to my attention. God bless us all!💋

Music is too loud, impossible to have a conversation.
Music selection is random and off the wall and is an absolute mismatch for the atmosphere and at times quite annoying like fingernails on a chalkboard.
It was as if some overly-eclectic teenager/employee made a mix tape of a bunch of deep-tracks from groups nobody has ever heard of and most people wouldn't like. It was headache inducing.

Service was slow, like really slow.

They also need to learn how to cook a steak. For as expensive as this place is, and the amount of money you'll spend per person, with some plates costing as much as $50+ you'd think some basic steak cooking skills might be a reasonable assumption, but no.
You'd be wrong.
And be prepared to never receive the condiments you ask for.
Save your money, go to McDonald's next door. You'll save a fortune, be much more satisfied with your meal, and you won't have to go home pi$$ed off.

This may be a 2 star restaurant trying to masquerade as a 5 star restaurant, with no real competition in the area to force improvement in it's quality and service.

You can look at my profile, I'm not a fan of leaving bad reviews. I've been to Reno's several times throughout my life, and it's always been good. I'm not sure what happened last night but here we go:

According to Google they're open until 10PM, their door says they're open until 11PM. We got there around 8:50PM and were seated and given menus without anything being said. When our waitress took our drink and appetizer order, and then told us they close at 9PM so we're lucky and would probably be their last table. I felt horrible for this because I'm not that kind of person. I understand wanting to close up and leave for the night and how frustrating it can be when someone comes in super close to closing so I try not to do that. Hence, why I looked the hours up and then saw the hours on the door and figured we had plenty of time.

I'd like to note that several people came in after we did and didn't have anything said to them. The bar was also still packed. Our waitress was nice but I'm sorry the food for the most part was horrible. Our appetizer, the Rosebud, was pretty burnt/overcooked and barely cut. The outer part also seemed as if it was cooked with the onion skin left on.. or maybe it was just so burnt to a crisp that it tasted like that. We both ordered steaks. I ordered mine rare and my sister ordered hers medium rare. Hers came out beyond well-done and mine was more medium rare. Which wasn't a big deal with me, it happens.

My problem with the steaks however is that the meat just... Wasn't good. Very fat/gristly and could have used some seasonings other than salt. My only other complaint was that my baked potato came out luke-warm. It still tasted good though! The macaroni and cheese was probably the best part of the entire meal. Overall, this was just an extremely disappointing visit.

We are on a motorcycle tour and so walked far to get steak in this small town.
My husband had the Porterhouse and ordered it medium/rare. It came out well done and dry. The waitress mentioned that the chef had thought this was the case and still sent it?
I had the steak with onions and peppers, which arrived without the peppers. It was cooked to the right temperature and delicious. All the sides- the coleslaw, broccoli, baked potato and sweet potato fries were all good.
Unfortunately as others had commented it took 40 mins for us to be served and an additional 30 mins for my husband to get the right cook.
We had steak last night in Wytheville and there was no comparison!
Was it worth the walk? Probably should have stuck to the Mexican Restaurant instead.

We had a terrible, unfriendly and rude waitress. We were seated in the back with only 3 other people and told that was all the seats available, even though we passed 2 dozen empty booths and tables. The menu has been changed, the good items removed. There's not much to choose from. When we asked if the prime rib and asparagus would be brought back at some point the waitress (Jamey) was very rude in answering. She was extremely unfriendly during the entire visit. She didn't bring all the drinks that was ordered. I told her the coke and water was for me but Danny ordered a coke too. She took my coke and gave it to Danny. I told that was good and fine but we still ordered 2 cokes and she could go get the other one. So we finally ordered. Danny's appetizer came out in about 10 minutes, my salad came out with dinner about 20 minutes later. I don't know if the chef don't know how to weigh items properly or what ...but anyone could see that the 6 oz ribeye Danny ordered was 3 times bigger than the 6 oz ribeye I ordered. Evidently Renos have different sizes of 6 oz ribeyes for men and women. Steak tasted alright but was not seared on the bottom. The bread was doughy and cold. The baked potato and baked beans was the best part of the meal. We usually eat there often, but with rude, incompetent, and unfriendly staff and few food choices.....I don't forsee us eating there any more.

Dark and dingy looking inside. Took a while to get the food. The baked potato was hot, but the steak tips were barely even warm. And I could not eat about a third of them....tough and full of gristle. The onions and peppers on them were so greasy I could not eat them either. The server was nice when she showed herself, but she was never there at a time you needed her.
