Review of Skagway, Alaska - "Gateway to the Klondike" 🏞️✨
🎉
Even though this is my third time visiting Skagway and my second this summer, it always feels a bit different every time I come here. The landslides are unfortunate, but they don't overshadow the brightness 🌟 of this charming city.
🎉
I absolutely love the overall vibe, like stepping back into the 1900s ⏳—so unique, yet modern at the same time. The White Pass conductors and all the staff dress up just like people from the 1900s, adding to the nostalgic atmosphere. As a tourist, I feel like I haven't paid enough 💵 for the incredible experience. The people living here work so hard to maintain the historic buildings 🏚️ while providing modern amenities. Every store worker is super friendly, and even the police 👮‍♂️ are welcoming.
🎉
This time, I explored most of the independent stores 🛍️, avoiding the chain stores selling gems, gold, or silverware. I just love the local artist shops 🎨—they're a must-visit! I even bought a beautiful art piece (less than $50) to support them. Overall, this city is wonderful, and I'm pretty sure I'll be back for a fourth visit... 😊✈️

Beautiful town, a lot of gold rush history. If you book the White Pass train, it will drop you off in town on the way back towards the port, if you choose. Very convenient.

All the shop owners are hospitable and proud of their town. You will enjoy it, especially the surrounding mountains.

We took a bus up past skagway to white pass and train to the gold rush starting camp called Liarsville (true story behind the Liars that created the name if the town) then hot up downtown Skagway, red onion saloon on the way back to port.

Of the 3 Alaskan ports we visited (Juneau and Ketchikan were the others), this was my favorite. I saw more original items in the gift shops than we did in Juneau. We also enjoyed visiting Reid Falls and the cemetery. Don"t know why the free shuttle wasn't running on a Sunday or why the person at the visitors' service didnt know -- bunch of us waited 30 mins to find this out. One very busy and colorful cab driver took us up there. Yes, you could walk the 2 miles, but it's not a nice walk --gravel at one part. Had a delicious salmon poke bowl at Woadies. Good memories.
