Authentic Puerto Rican restaurant in Phoenix will not disappoint your taste buds. My only complaint was the pernil did not have a crunchy skin but that’s my preference. My favorite were the alcapurrias de yuca 🇵🇷

My husband is Puerto Rican and this is the only true authentic good Puerto Rican restaurant in AZ! It reminds me of his mom’s cooking! Today we got the special and OH MY GOSH it was to die for! This is our go to for feel good food and will continue to be! Thanks Phoenix Coqui!

Everytime I come here I feel right at home. From the music playing, to the decor, to the nic nacs they have displayed. It really feels like the local spot in town back in PR. The food is top notch. Food always made to order, you can taste the freshness. I can keep going on about this place, but you just have to try it out. It is amazing.

This is a little Puerto Rican restaurant that offers dine-in, take-out, and DoorDash services. We stopped by for lunch after an appointment close by. Restaurant owner Alex greeted us at the counter and took our orders. This was our first time having PR foods, and he recommended fried pork for me and pulled pork for my husband. Our lunch also came with a small serving of spring green lettuce and rice. I had white rice, and my hubby had seasoned rice in tomatoe-based sauce. The pulled pork was like pulled stewed pork roast, very meaty and jucy. Fried pork was crispy on the outside and tender inside. We liked both dishes and ate most of it. Our servings were more than plenty, and we had leftover to take home. This is a nice small eatery that we would come back if in this side of the town.

P.s. I had the leftover for dinner and it was even better. You know how sometimes you got certain restaurant food that was really yummy but you felt so thirsty for hours afterwards? I did not have that feeling grom Phoe ix Coqui's food after my lunch or dinner. This is like having had home-made food; it is very satisfying.

I came with a Puerto Rican friend who was in town visiting and I've never had this kind of cuisine. She went ahead and ordered all the works for us and I was in for treat. I felt like I was in Puerto Rico enjoying this meal on the island. The service and food was authentic and delicious.

Disclaimer: This was the highest rated PR food in my area, so I went here not having any former experience with this style of food. Since I don't have former knowledge of what good or bad PR cuisine is, feel free to dismiss or like my thoughts.

Food:

Overall, I found the dish lacking. The pulled pork was dry & lacked a distinct seasoning. The rice, while appealing, was actually better as a leftover or when soaked in the ketchup/mayo-style sauce given. The plantain disc was reasonable, but again lacked anything that made me crave more. It seemed more like a bland corn-vibing potato. The soda contained high fructose corn syrup, so instead of a PR specific drink, it seemed more like an off brand orange soda. The mixed greens salad sold at all bulk stores was plausibly the best part. My PR friend said that isn't even a thing back home.

Service:

Everything was prompt, reasonable, friendly & helpful. A 4 would be a 5 if there was perhaps more enthusiasm, but hey, everyone had off moments.

Atmosphere:

The decor & music was solid for a mom & pop shop & exactly what I wanted to see. I wasn't in Cheesecake factory, I was in a Taco Truck turned local niche spot & the vibe worked.

To others in the review section:

Oh, & I saw the infamous flag from the alphabet-mafia at the desk. People need to calm down over that. This isn't the place for a lecture on theology, but it was discreet enough to express, but not overwhelm. At the end of the day, if a dogma changes your appetite, move along without expressing it. No one's Google review is pushing LGBTQ members to "repentance," so it isn't needed to mention. There's a "time and place for everything" and this isn't it.

There's a chance I'll return to try other items but it's VERY possible, this food is solid & simply not what I personally think tastes good due to the lack of intensity in spicing (like Indian food?). *shrugs*

Since I left Florida I haven’t been to a Puertorican spot so came to see, overall it was okay. They had no creamer for coffee and they couldn’t make a pastrami sandwich, the alcapuria was pretty good but very little. The palcha juice was good, tostones were good and the rice con gandules, also for two people I found it pricey.
