Our first time eating here. I ordered the BLT, and my daughter ordered the veggie wrap. We split a pasta salad. The food was really good. The atmosphere was nice. Took me back a few decades with the decor.
The employees were nice and the owner took time to chat for a few minutes.

Wow, what a place. Traditional places like this should be treasured. This is a real gem of a diner. If you are in Scottsboro or the Jackson County area, take time for a visit to Payne's. On our visit, they were even serving ice creams to seniors for 5 cents each!!

You have to stop by and eat there. I highly recommend the Dagwood Sandwich. ( very large and well worth the price). The desserts are absolutely fantastic. The service is excellent, and the servers were very friendly and helpful. Do stop by.

Payne's Sandwich Shop & Soda Fountain is a trip back in time. What a beautiful place. All of the employees and servers were smiling, friendly, and exhibited that wonderful southern beauty, hospitality, and charm you so often see in the south, as well as small towns across America. I had the Broad Street Dagwood, so tall it would hardly fit in my big mouth, and i was unable to accommodate the entire sandwich in my fat belly. Sooo good. I will have to return numerous times to get shakes, ice cream, and soda concoctions. Huge selection of all. The shop is decorated in the era-appropriate decor of the soda fountain shops of yesteryear. Clean shop and plenty of parking in the surrounding area.

Great classic ice cream and sandwich parlor . Decor is .. classic. Good value place to catch lunch n ice cream in downtown square of scottsboro. We tried the spicy chicken wrap and Italian stallion sandwich- both tasty!!
Finished with a coffee shake.

Great classic sandwich/ ice cream shop. Great food and service. Well located for events on the square. Only negative is not much seating during peak hours. Kids loved it and the kids menu was well priced for young kids. All sandwiches under 10$ but add chips (no fries).

Payne's Sandwich Shop is a treasure in Northeast Alabama. It has been a round for long time. All of the sandwiches are great. My family loved the banana splits. The slaw dogs are on the 100 things to eat in Alabam.

Ordered all the hot dog combos and they were good. Disappointed in the $7 smallish shakes and malts. Atmosphere was very hot, need some AC in the summer. Great service with a very friendly staff. Very busy and crowded.
