DO NOT STAY HERE! Property has greatly declined. It used to be a nice place to stay years ago. No onsite staff, online checking only, area has gotten very sketchy. Overpriced, and unethical non-transparent booking policies and outrageous additional fees; parking, towels, cleaning and deposit. Onsite parking not guaranteed. Non-refundable with direct and third party bookings. This place should be shut down. Save yourself a headache and book elsewhere!

Positive: Nothing Negative: No staff on premises. We were to have an apartment room like room 133 but only got a regular 2 bed room, 127. Breakfast was a Bimbo pastry and a small apple. Restaurant was not opened at 8 am as stated on the window and door. No vending machine. Add fees

Worst check in method ever. Made a reservation through Priceline. Plane was delayed and landed close to midnight. Arrived at the hotel and no person there to check me in. Had to use a robot kiosk that told me to wait...which i did for 40 minutes. Thought someone would show up. Nope. No one arrived. Now they won't refund. Going to the Better Business Bureau next. Never stay here, ever!!!!

Positive: Only the fact that it was a roof over my head! Negative: Absolutely! From the moment I arrived it was problem after problem. No contact for any help on site. I was charged a $200 deposit after I had already paid for the room. There was poor lighting in the room. ,disgusting bedding, no breakfast as advertised

This place is a scam, showed up at 9pm after a long day of traveling, no one works here. It's fully automated, poorly. Barely any help from the Airbnb user we booked through who suspiciously had 17 profiles. We were then told we had to pay an additional fee for one of many empty parking spaces. We had two cars. The "host" said there was only one spot available to purchase, which we could obviously tell just wasn't true. It's apparent that most people have learned their lesson and this place is not worth the cheap price. Property looks nice but every other part of the process just made it unforgivable for me. Could have been very nice if people actually worked here. They probably set up the airbnb site because their reviews on regular hotel booking sites are garbage. Any good review here is years old.
Also there's a coffee machine in the room but no coffee provided and the floors were dirty. Any time we got into bed our feet had dragged whatever nastiness was around the hotel room floor into bed with us.

I waited a week to write this review to ensure I could provide an objective account of my experience. My stay at the Papago Hotel in Phoenix was disappointing and concerning on many levels.

Booking Experience
I booked this hotel through Hotels.com, as I often do, and was shocked to learn after the free cancellation period had passed that I was required to provide the following:

A copy of my driverโ€™s license (front and back)
A selfie
My car license plate information
A $200 hold on my credit card (twice)
A $30 cleaning fee
These requirements were not disclosed prior to booking. Had they been, I would NEVER have chosen this property. As a woman traveling alone, I was particularly uneasy about providing such sensitive information, especially without a clear privacy policy outlining how it would be stored or protected. This is so distrubing and raised serious concerns about data security and potential identity theft and potential human trafficking.

When I contacted Hotels.com to cancel, I was informed that the cancellation policy was 100% of the booking cost, as the free cancellation window had closed six days prior to my stay. This left me with no viable option but to comply, even though I was uncomfortable with their demands.

Arrival and Parking
Upon arrival, I was informed of an additional $10 per day parking fee for an unsecured, open lot adjacent to the street. A quick online search revealed free parking was available just steps away in an alley. This lack of transparency felt deceptive. Additionally, the parking lot offered no security, further amplifying my concerns about safety.

Room Conditions
The first room assigned to me was in poor condition. The bed had no sheets, and the bathroom smelled strongly of mildew. The noise from the street was excessive, making it difficult to rest. The hotel itself is an old motel that has been minimally upgraded with inexpensive furniture and flooring, which further detracted from the experience.

After contacting customer service via text, I was moved to a cleaner, quieter room on the other side of the property. While I appreciated the effort, the new room came with its own issues, such as being located next to a dumpster.

Safety Concerns
During my second morning, I was startled awake at 5:30 a.m. by someone running across the balcony. This incident, combined with the lack of on-site staff, left me feeling unsafe throughout my stay.

Pricing Issues
Due to an unexpected schedule change, I had to extend my stay by one night. The additional night was charged at a rate 50% higher than my original booking. While they waived a $25 cleaning fee for the extra night, it felt like a small concession given the overall experience. Plus they charge $30 for parking which was not disclosed in advance.

Missing Personal Belongings
On my final day, I noticed that my wedding ring, a gold band with two heart shaped opals and small diamonds, was missing from the room. With no visible staff on-site, I had no way to file a complaint or investigate further. This was a deeply upsetting end to an already troubling experience. I am grateful to get out of there alive with no bed bugs.

Data Privacy and Transparency Concerns
This hotelโ€™s data collection practices are alarming, particularly the lack of a posted privacy policy. The storage and handling of sensitive personal information, including copies of IDs and selfies, may violate Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S.) ยง 18-552 regarding data protection and transparency. Additionally, the deceptive booking and cancellation policies could potentially violate the Federal Trade Commission Act (prohibiting unfair or deceptive practices).

If you are considering staying here, I urge you to read reviews carefully, verify all policies in advance, and weigh the potential risks. I am filing complaints with the State of Arizona, the City of Phoenix, the Consumer Protection Agency, and the Federal Trade Commission regarding these practices.

Positive: Clean Negative: This hotel was disappointing. No parking was included?you had to pay extra. There was no staff, which made everything harder, and I still haven?t been refunded. Total mess. I won?t return and don?t recommend it.

I received multiple emails asking me to send photos of my driver's license/check in virtually. I don't really like emailing DL photos to places that may or may not have decent cybersecurity, so I decided to just check in when I got there. I arrived and followed the signs to the reception desk, it turned out to be a room with a speaker where someone gave virtual check in instructions, and I had no option but to send photos of my DL. In taking a closer look at my initial reservation with hotwire, it was made clear this was the case so I guess my bad for not reading the details, but if I had realized this when I was choosing hotels I definitely would have gone with a different place. I completed the check in only to receive an email saying my car would be towed if I parked in the parking lot next to the hotel. In taking another look at my initial email from hotwire and the subsequent emails from the motel, it didn't appear I was informed of this at all. I went back to the speaker room and asked where I was supposed to park. The voice suggested I park on the street. I'd rented from sixt, not realizing they only rent high end cars, and felt a bit iffy about parking a bmw on the street in an area I'm unfamiliar with, especially since there wasn't a single car parked on the street in sight. I went ahead to the room, which was actually fairly nice, just long enough to look for a different hotel. I found one and left. Might be an okay place if you arrive by bike/scooter/uber.
