We recently had a great stay at Oldeststone Farm. It was such a treat to be immersed in this world of animals and nature. Farmer John was very hospitable and knowledgeable.

It is very much a real farm with a variety of animals. It was so cool to witness all of the peaceful coexistence in an authentic setting.
The house is so interesting. The beds and the linens are so comfortable and welcoming.
I was pleasantly surprised how clean the house was considering it was built in the early 1700’s and must be difficult to maintain.

It’s definitely not an experience suited for everyone, but it should be!!!
You won’t be disappointed if you bring a love of animals and nature, and a pair of boots that can get dirty. 😎

John, our host, was wonderful. What an awesome experience. Picturesque, operating farm with numerous friendly animals. Met many lovely people sitting around the wood stove, on the porch, or at the two impromptu meals we shared with our host and other guests. My wife and I highly recommend it, and will go back. You must like animals 🙂

Very disappointing stay. The owner did not prepare the property for our arrival over the weekend. We found the house in absolute disaray with turkeys roaming in the dining room, walking and pooping all over the floor and table! The charming backyard was filled with dog and bird poop to the point that one could not easily walk around without stepping into something. The dogs were likely parched and hungry since all of their water was green and filled with dirt. They were also eating a bird that they caught only a few minutes before our arrival. The dogs also lounged on top of the backyard table, which was all chewed up and scratched up. The grills were unuseable since the turkeys used them as their perch and pooped all over. I won't even begin to describe the stench. It is clear that this farm has falled into deep disrepair and the owner no longer cares for it. The price to stay here competes with local hotels, on the promise of a charming stay in a country cottage, sadly, that could not be further from the truth. Our party had to do so much cleaning that we should have been paid. One of our friends left after one night. Don't believe the website, the reality does not match what it sells.

This was a lucky find for a last minute stay as my family and I needed a stopover place to go en route to Shenandoah National Park in VA. We wanted a place that was close to Harpers Ferry, WV and Sharpsburg, MD to check out the historical sites, parks and battlefields. The only places available (that would accept little kids, BTW) were hotels like the Econo Lodge or Holiday Inn--far from a country experience that we wanted to give our children as we live close to a big city. The Oldeststone Farm was our answer. The farmhouse was charming, and spacious for the cost--we had two bedrooms and a living area to ourselves. Don't expect TV though--just the sounds of the myriad of farm animals which our kids just loved! Breakfast was light--a variety of mini muffins, breads and pastries, plus fresh fruit, butter and jam. Coffee was brewed fresh daily shortly after the sun was up, and full access to the farm fresh eggs (including quail eggs!), herbs, refrigerator, and kitchen was an added perk. We made farm fresh omlettes in the mornings, while other guests made gourmet dinners during their stay. The farm is close to everything we wanted to experience, and we spent plenty of time at the farm itself--it was a wonderful experience. Don't expect the place to be luxurious--you have to be comfortable with a bit of dirt, a few house flies, and animals in the house (but not in the living quarters at all--where you are staying is kept completely animal free), but overall, this unique farm stay is worth it. Thanks to John and his family for bringing this experience to the public!

I was here but for business purposes. So i did not stay over night. However, it looks like a really cool place. John and Nate were very pleasant and obliging for my purpose there evan though they had guests and were busy. Again, i didn't stay, but based just on their cooperation with me, i would definately recommend a visit to stay in a rustic old house and experience some time on a very lively farm.
