We enjoyed 4 full wonderful days in the Cedar cabin. This is a rustic lodge - not for the bougie crowd. Situated lakeside we were surrounded by trees and cute chipmunks, squirrels, ducks, turkey, deer, loons, and coots. Cell service is shotty but wasnโ€™t a big deal to us. Donโ€™t expect to be waited on hand and foot - the owner is a sweet man but this isnโ€™t an at your beck and call type of place. We were totally okay with that. We were sad to leave after having enjoyed such a relaxing time on the lake.

Staying at Northland Lodge every summer is the highlight of my year! I've been going up to Northland Lodge for the past 7 years with my husband's family and every year, it's the perfect vacation. The cabins are homey and the scenery is beautiful. Located on Lost Land Lake, if you're looking for a relaxing getaway to escape to and enjoy beautiful nature, this is the place to go. Family owned and operated, the staff is friendly and accommodating. We spend most of our days out fishing on Lost Land and Teal lakes, then at night we head to the lodge to catch up with old friends. With so many returning/regular guests, it's like everyone is family, and I've felt welcomed from my day 1 of my first visit. It's a great place for all ages.

I will make this review as honest as possible based on our 1st experience here. We checked in on Saturday afternoon, we were in Cabin 5 (Pines). We were told that our cabin had been cleaned but also told that their cleaning crew didn't show up for work on Saturday either. We brought our own pontoon and was directed on where to launch it. There was no mention that there was no turn around there so we ended up having to back back out, turn around back at our cabin and back back down the road to a very shallow (understandably so due to lack of rain this summer) and weedy boat launch. Once we unpacked in the cabin, we quickly realized that the cleaning was very minimal. The amount of sand that I swept from the floors confirmed the lack of cleaning. The bathroom had a consistent smell of old urine and the vinyl floor around the toilet is very discolored and soft. They also most likely didn't clean the shower as someone had left a used razor in the shower. The cabin was stocked with 3 rolls of TP, and bedding. I can't say when the bedding was last washed as it had a stale smell, clean looking though. I also brought my own bedding. The couch has a thread worn spot, the hide-a-bed was absolutely gross, full of sand and no bedding other than a awful pad on mattress. . The screen in porch would be nice if there wasn't holes in the screens, 1 hole was about 2 x 2. |Now understanding that the whole resort is about 100 yrs. old, I can understand nostalgia, but there is a clear lack of maintenance. The windows wouldn't stay up and we had to use what we found in the cabin to prop open windows (at the direction of one of the workers there), which also may take into account the broken kitchen utensils in the drawer. |Anything we took out of cupboards we washed before using, especially when we found mouse droppings in the cabinets (again to be expected when staying in the woods). |The carpet sweeper was so full of sand and hair that we did clean it out before running it over the carpets. |On Wednesday a storm came thru and knocked out power at approximately 6 pm. We had 1 small flashlight in our truck, and didn't find out until the next day that we could have come up to lodge to get a lantern. |I would describe the swimming beach as use at your own risk. It isn't real deep but it is where the ducks hang out and ducks were also in the sand box that little kids would use to play in near the water. Duck poop all over the docks also. The swimming slide is a definite safety risk. It is so wobbly and in fact, I hand tightened a couple of bolts that were visibly loose. We had to tell the grandkids not use it due to safety. The swimming platform is also a safety issue for slivers as it is weather/water worn wood.|The eaves on the cabin are in poor shape. There is a 3x3 size hole in the eave about the screen door and the rest of the eave is bent down to create a waterfall in front of the screened porch. |Now I understand that many families come back year after year and I'm sure that the owners love that. But as first time patrons, the lack of maintenance, cleanliness and lack of communication is evident. It was not very welcoming. |Lack of communication examples: Tell people bringing in boats that they have to back into boat launch, if the power happens to go out, tell your patrons that lanterns are available or drive around and offer to your patrons, tell your patrons that you offer free bait. Let your patrons know about the fireworks that were shot off. Maybe we would have come to watch or maybe we might have had a child or pet that was scared. Again, the lack of communication. |The lake isn't bad, but due to the water level being low, it is fairly weedy and many very shallow spots to be aware of and watch out for. |If you want people to come up to the lodge, then the lights should be on, not just a few dim lights, the games and juke box should be plugged in and ready to go. Make it inviting for your patrons, they may spend money on games and music. |Wednesday nights there is a sing-a-long in the lodge. We decided to leave 3 days early, on Thursday morning. When we went up to the lodge to pay our bill, we were told to come back in a hour due to the sing-a-long went late and the owners were still in bed. This was 11 am, we found someone else and said we are not waiting we are leaving now. So then was told to come up to the lodge. In the lodge the 2 females (owner's wife and DIL ?) were sitting drinking coffee and seemed like we were intruding. We were not asked if everything was ok, why were were leaving early, etc.|We knew that this wouldn't be a 5 star hotel, but in reading reviews, they gave no indication on the issues that I mention above. My only wish is that I had taken more photos. Again, this is an old lodge, but maintenance certainly should be foremost. |We will not be repeat customers. There is plenty of better maintained resorts in the area that we will happily spend our hard-earned money at in the future.

My husband and I chose this location for our week-long vacation for this summer due to it's location on Lost Land Lake (and it being a Quiet Lake with no jet skis, etc.). The owners are several generations of a very nice family. They even were nice enough to mail me the items that I accidentally left there. It is very family friendly, but that does not mean you won't see couples without children or groups or singletons of fishermen staying here as well. They offer a sing along event one night during the week which was a lot of fun. Our cabin (The Spruce) was very nice with a well stocked kitchen, comfortable furniture and beds, a shockingly decent size bathroom, and even a fireplace (although we didn't use it). It is one of the cabins that is a bit further from the Lodge and someday when we come back, we may choose a cabin closer, but it was within walking distance of a neighboring resort that offered a full service restaurant which was kind of a nice added bonus also. The main purpose of our trip to Hayward was fishing and we had some luck catching a decent amount of keeper crappie, perch, and large-mouth bass. Most the bluegills that we caught were on the small side (guessing mainly due to the time of the year), We also caught a couple northern pike, had a muskie break the line once, and came across a walleye. It was nice to be able to enjoy the wildlife as well - eagles, loons, ducks, deer, and even saw a bear! The property's boat launch was a bit challenging for someone not very seasoned at backing a boat trailer (me) so when we pulled out to leave, we opted to have my husband drive the boat to the public launch across the lake and I drove the truck and trailer the few miles to get there since it would have been close to a 3/4 mile walk for us to walk back to get the truck from the resort's launch to our cabin where the truck and trailer were. There is a bait shop (The Happy Hooker) fairly close to the property as well which was a nice convenience. The town of Hayward is about a 25 minute drive from the resort, but close enough to get to for a break from fishing or for some rainy day fun. One word of caution is to not hope for an early check-in due to their tight turn around cleaning time of the cabins, but if you get there early, I suggest going next door to the Lost Land Lake Lodge Restaurant for a bite to eat and a cold drink.

As the resorts in this area close, sell out to condos, or foreclose it is refreshing to stay in a place that survives. The owners are super nice, have been living on the lake and Owned the resort for 100 years. Lost Land lake is a beautiful Quiet Lake in the Chequamegon National Forest-10 mph non-jet ski non-ski lake, yes! The owners are super friendly and make you feel like you're part of the family...a couple guests we spoke to have been vacationing here for 30+ years. While a bit rustic, the place is clean, the cabins are nice and there is regular maintenance to the grounds. The lake and wildlife draw us here -you will see eagles!! We want to go back, with our boat.

My husband and I got away for a couple days. Nice rustic resort. Has the old time charm I remember from my childhood when we would spend a week a lake.||This resort is the real deal. Nice and clean you will find the generation of owners working the resort. Dick and Ruth are both so nice to talk to. Dick shared some great stories about his childhood, as he grew up around the resort. Such a great person to talk with. His Grandfather built the resort cabins. There is a great history here that should be wrote.||We rented one of the rigs, nice comfortable boat with a Honda motor. Has the nice comfortable seats. This is a nice size lake without the noise of jet skis and water skiing.||Enjoy your stay!

This is a great place to stay in the Hayward Wisconsin area. I have be going up to this resort for 30 plus years and will continue to go there. Now i am talking my family to my favorite fishing resort in Wisconsin. The owners are great and treat us like family while we are there for the week. The fishing is good and there is plenty of areas to fish between the two lakes re: lost land lake and Teal Lake. Swimming in the lake is always a great way to also relax while your up there. The main lodge is great and going there to relax for a while is fantastic. The cabins are comfortable and nicely furnished. My children always look forward to our vacations there every year. I can't say enough on how much i enjoy this resort and to the Thearin family keep up the great job. Paul kasprzycki

great fishing and great friends up at the resort. The owners make you feel like family while you are there. Muskies are hitting and great crappie fishing this year. One great thing is that you have two lakes to fish from not just one. Lost lsnd lake is awesome and teal lake is great. I can't say enough about the resort and the lakes that's how great it is up here.

Go up
