We needed a place to stay while we spent a weekend in Berkeley to watch a play at the Repertary Theater. Lodging is pretty expensive (even the low budget options and motels are overpriced), and I was really disappointed in the options through AirBnB - expensive, extremely small and/or bad location that would require driving. This was the perfect place - I thought the price was reasonable for the cozy space that includes a kitchen and outdoor space, plus an excellent location. A few minutes from restaurants, coffee shops and supermarkets in the Gourmet Ghetto. Easy walk to Downtown Berkeley and campus. There were 4 adults and we were very comfortable with one couple in the bedroom and the other on the futon in the living room. Garden setting is really beautiful and it is very private in the back cottage. ||I do think there could have been better communication from the host during initial inquiry about availability, after booking and with confirmation/instructions prior to arrival - but I wouldn't let that deter you from staying here. This will be my go-to place when I need to visit the bay.

We loved having our own garden and lots of privacy, also a fully appointed kitchen with everything you might need (and there are good grocery stores only 3-4 blocks away). We didn't have a car and enjoyed walking around North Berkeley and to downtown. We were happy to invite a friend to come have tea with us in this peaceful kitchen or living room with the light filtering through the leaves out the windows. Located in my favorite part of Berkeley. Hope to return.

The highlights of this place are the location, the "secret" gardens and the outdoor deck. I really enjoyed walking in the gorgeous neighborhoods in the hills from here and to the Farmer's Market (Thursdays), wonderful coffee shop and local market on Shattuck St. One day we even saw 4 deer and 8 wild turkeys up in the 'hoods. We walked for a good hour/hour and a half each day. ||Pat is very thoughtful and has thought of just about everything, including flashlights, tea, coffee, a fan and an assortment of dishes and pans to use. My husband and son said the sofa bed was very comfortable and not the usual kind that has a bar across the middle. The bed in the room was very good also (though the pillows are getting worn). ||It is perfect for a couple or family of 3 or family w/ 2 small children. We are a family w/ 2 college-age kids so it bordered on small but was still fine size-wise. The kids and my husband liked it. I think it is well-priced for 2 people ($150) and reasonable for 3 people ($175) but I think for 4 people it jumped too high, given the only thing 1 extra person used was water and a towel. (Usually you see this when breakfast is involved.) ||Pat bent over backwards the first night when parking was scarce and we had to go back out to pick our daughter up at the Bart station. She offered to park on the street so we could park in the driveway, thereby insuring we'd get a spot. I would def recommend it.

Everything about this private cottage is perfect for a stay in Berkeley: location (in the food ghetto, close to transit, Zip Cars, the University); the cottage has been provided with every detail you might ever need to be self-sufficient and right at home. It is immaculate, comfortable, and the garden, deck, fireplace and large soaker bathtub are all a delight! Pat is a kind, gracious host, and your privacy is assured. We would happily bring our kids and the 4 of us could stay in comfort. Pat is ready for wee children in the cottage, as well.

This lovely cottage is in a quiet neighborhood in North Berkeley. It is tastefully decorated, very clean and well equipped. The location is close to restaurants and shopping. It sits in the middle of a beautiful garden. We would definitely stay here again!

We were enchanted as we walked through the lovely garden and in the front door. Pat thought of every amenity and convenience. The remote-controlled fireplace heats the unit in 15 minutes, the artfully furnished cottage is a pleasure and the spacious kitchen is well equipped and provides a second work space as we both tend to fit in a bit of work even while on vacation.||||Awesome!

I found this oasis of beauty, tranquility, peace, and comfort by doing a search for B&Bs in Berkeley. I read the reviews, and contacted the lovely woman who has created this special place. It was exactly as described on the website, only even better in reality. I spent 8 nights and left at checkout time on the 9th day, when I was in No. California to visit family and my son, daughter-in-law, and newborn grandson. This cottage has everything anyone could want for rest and relaxation inside and outside: safety (fully licensed and inspected), accessibility, quiet, every amenity one could ask for and more--including a thoughtful library; living room skylight; fully equipped kitchen; elegant and safe bathroom; great bed and bedroom; delightful furnishings, rugs, and artwork; helpful and friendly hosts; amazing garden of birds singing, flowers and trees blooming, and Adirondack chairs to sit in... Thank you--I hope to return!

I stayed in this cottage for a week while visiting my son and daughter-in-law and my 3-year-old grandtwins. It provides a delightful and elegant respite from the people I love the most. It renews my spirit and engages my heart. The gardens are lovely, and the cottage provides everything one might need. I look forward to going again!
