Zero refund of our $970 for the week after we left the first morning not even showering. Climb to attic to see dust ruffle spilling out onto floor, smoke alarm taped up with Saran wrap, mattress pad too small for bed, but the clencher was our anticipated, as advertised gorgeous view of the Columbia. Sit in a grubby upholstered chair with the springs pushing up into your butt, to look out a window that does not open and gaze upon the back of some buildings, a homeless encampment to glimpse a partial view of the river. NOPE We would have been less disgusted had our host simply refunded a portion of our stay so that we would have had funds to find a place we could be happy. It was our first visit from NY to Astoria, we ended up beat feeting out of town.

My boyfriend and I absolutely loved this place. It was a short walk from the bus station and all the shops and restaurants, and the house itself is very charming. There are all sorts of beautiful, unique antiques in the main area and all the rooms. They have a massive DVD collection, DVD players in each room, and plenty of board games to entertain yourself if you just want a quiet evening at the house. We only stayed overnight, so we didn't partake, but it's nice to know they are there for future visits! Our room had a microwave and a refrigerator in case we needed them, and having our own private shower and bathroom was an added bonus. We stayed in Room 221, which was lovely. There was plenty of natural light, and the bed was amazingly comfortable. We joked that we wanted to move in! Candy was very available via text and allowed us to check in early since the room was ready. Overall, the whole experience was practically perfect. We look forward to returning!

I absolutely loved this hotel and wish we could have stayed longer than one night! We booked the attic room, and it gave total grandma vibes in the best way. Lacy curtains and tablecloths, turquoise carpeting flowered comforter, the free-standing bathtub. Even a stained glass along the stairwell leading up which is identical to my own grandmother's old house. It was so cozy, the bed and giant lounger sofa were insanely comfortable, the chairs looking out the window toward the water were so nice for morning coffee, and I really enjoyed having a glass of wine in the bathtub at night. ||Downstairs is equally old-fashioned and great. No check-in desk, just a keypad. We had no issues with parking on the street across from the hotel. And location is right by the Pigeon Steps and only a few blocks away from plenty of restaurants, bars, shops, and the water. So cute.

Booked through the business’s website and the calendar was not intuitive and I booked the wrong night. My bad. I realized my mistake the next day and tried to cancel less than 24hrs after booking. I was informed I was within 30days of the stay date so I was not eligible for a refund. I was in fact 30days from the stay date. The owner figured they were doing a favor by offering to refund 50%. The rationale: it’s a small business in a competitive market and cancellations make booking difficult so they have to be strict about their policy. To a degree, I understand this, but the benefit of being a small business is the flexibility you have when communicating directly with your customers. But before 60 days for a full refund, before 30days for 50%, and after 30days NO refund This is an unnecessary policy, one that I’ve never seen in any privately owned hotel/motel/b&b.

Two days after the initial 50% refund offer I reached out again and was told that offer was no longer available. So the options are to cancel for no refund so the owner can conceivably double their money by booking the room again or to keep the room and leave it empty. Congrats on the easiest money you’ve ever received, I guess. This policy works more as a customer punishment or some sort of accountability method…?

Don’t offer to book this through your website when you’re also offering it on Airbnb. I get using different platforms but you’re not standardized across the platforms. If you’re going to continue this ridiculous policy, update your website to make that refund cancellation policy WAY more obvious.

The only reason I’m giving a star for service is the caretaker was pleasant even though they are left mediating while the owner manages from outside of Astoria.

Would not recommend this place based on principle alone. I’ll update this if we end up staying here, but this experience has really soured it for me and we weren’t planning on staying that night anyway.

UPDATE:
Owner is not having it. They apparently misunderstood what happened. I booked two rooms. Next day called to cancel (30days from reservation). They offered 50% refund. I had to confer with other party involved with the stay. Responded two days later wondering if the 50% was still available. It was not. Asked if I wanted to cancel for no refund. So no. I do not want to cancel my reservation just so you can potentially rebook the room and get double the money. Is that petty? Maybe. But if I am going to be forced pay for a reservation I’d rather just keep it and do with it as I please. And now they’re bolstering their star rating with fake reviews.

Change your cancellation policy timeframe to a week, even two. If you can’t book rooms within that timeframe in your Airbnb that you manage from afar, that unfortunately sounds like a poor investment.

I decided to do a spontaneous trip to Astoria and was able to book a room here last minute. I think the price I had was worth it.
Check in and check out was easy. You would need a code to get into the building AND a separate code for your room.
I love how my room was equipped with a microwave, refrigerator and utensils. And love, loved how the shower is separated from the toilet/bathroom sink.
It was quiet in the whole building despite seeing other guests. Lots of free street parking as well, and very walkable to downtown Astoria.
I would come back if I were to stay overnight in Astoria.

Great location in town. Can usually find on air bnb for a reasonable price compared to other places to stay. Host Candi is very responsive and has been flexible to meet my needs. Only issues I've ever encountered have been with housekeeping, but not anything serious. I will stay here again, and would definitely recommend highly.

I really wanted to love this unique little house but there were just too many things wrong.
Firstly and most unacceptably, it wasn’t clean. There was a thick layer of dust on the bed stand and all around the back splash in the bathroom, smudges all over the mirrors.
The bed was the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever slept on, my back ached as soon as I laid in it and I don’t have a bad back. So my sleep was terrible, thought at least I can watch a DVD in bed at 4am but no, the DVD player was broken.
The coffee maker you have to shake around and bang on to get to work. The curtains are white so all the light comes in… I also don’t think the website was clear on how tiny this room was.
The only ok thing about this place was the location.
So disappointed for giving this place a try. I’m so glad we only took it for one night.

Nice room with everything one would need for a weekend in Astoria including a DVD player and lots of movies and books to browse through. It was built in 1900 so of course this hotel has that vintage charm with its unique quirks. The towels were rough, so I did want to note that. I would rate higher with nicer towels and a breakfast, otherwise it was a nice boutique hotel in a wonderful area close to everything.
