With a little attention to cleanliness, this Moxy location could be one of the best options in Tempe.

The room design is funky and different. The lobby – which at many hotels feels sterile and functional – has a cool lounge vibe. For that reason, I spent my evening reading and working in the lobby instead of holing up in my room which I appreciated.

You check-in at the bar and get a drink ticket. Nice touch. But, because the bartender is also the receptionist, it's easy to imagine this leading to bad service for both the patrons and arriving guests. That wasn't the case for me, but others noted it and I don't doubt it could be an issue.

And, as many reviewers have noted, the lack of attention to detail in cleanliness is obvious. My room was clean, but I noticed some hair in multiple places in the bathroom. Which lead me to wonder just how clean my room really was.

I didn't mind the lack of a closet. I thought the concept of hangers on the wall itself was funky, functional, and a better use of space in most cases.

I'm definitely curious to check out other Moxy locations having experienced the concept in Tempe. But, I'm unlikely to return here unless I see a major correction in the reviews.

Great hotel at a great price in a great location.
I got here too early to check in so they were able to hold my bag until check in which was good.
When I checked in, I got a really good upgrade because of my status.
I got one of the suites with a balcony overlooking the pool area.
The room was very nice and comfortable.
And overall this hotel is in a great location. Right in the middle of Tempe. It is very walkable and there are lots of public transit options, and there's also a ton of those electric bikes and electric scooters that you can rent.

Super run-down and dirty.
The phone in my room didn't work. One of the lamps in my room didn't work. Two power outlets in my room didn't work. The shower sprayed a ton of water out of the pipe joints, it looked like the pipes were about to burst. Big cracks and some holes in the ceiling. TV randomly turned on in my room twice, including once in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. One of the elevators stopped working one morning. The back exit door always jammed, you had to body-slam it to get out. And the hallways always looked really dirty with stuff on the floors, like they rarely vacuum. No closet, fridge, microwave, or trash can in the room (other than one tiny trash can in the bathroom).

Definitely NOT worth the price.

Business travelers, stay AWAY from this hotel! Kids were playing in the pool until 10, crowded road with kids screaming and yelling. The room wasn’t clean, they need work on hygiene, towels have hairs and stains. Receptionist also is the bartender, imaging how slow it will be, under staffed. If you are business traveler and stay at Marriott often, trust me, this won’t meet your standard, and not even near close.

Very nice, beautiful, aesthetic but not that functional, there's a bar in the lobby and at the same place is the front desk, the person who runs the bar is the same one as the front desk, so I had to wait for like 15 min to get a package because the guy was with the other guests at the bar, he was very nice but it was physically impossible to him to be with everyone at the same time. Also the room didn't have a remote but I didn't want to go back again and wait another 15 min to be able to get it, I had to unplugged it to turn it off. There is no fridge, coffee maker or microwave at the rooms, you can get a coffee in another room that it's called the stash room and there's some towels, toiletries, Iron table and a microwave. If this was like a hostel or something like that I'd say is good but paying the high rates that it cost to not be able to have a microwave, or at least a fridge in the room is not the hotel I need.

This isn't the worst or best hotel I've been to. But it's definitely one of the strangest.

Let's start with the pros:
-The girl at check-in was phenomenal. I wish I got her name because she was helpful, kind, and just a decent human being. I always love feeling like I'm not bugging workers if I need something, and she definitely made me feel welcomed.
-The room... (which I'll expand more on later) had a great bathroom. It was really well put together, well lighted and was clean. The tv and remote were particularly awesome (it lights up which is nice!) The bed was soft, which was nice. It was clean and put together. The lights on the bottom of the bed were new, and thought they'd be a bother but ended up being pretty cool.
-The hotel was quiet for the most part.
-The breakfast was good.
-The hotel and rooms smelled good, which I always pay attention to. I felt like that's a good sign.

The cons: Why I didn't give 5 stars
-The location can't be helped. It's right next to a loud street and a college. I suggest a white noise of some kind if you plan a stay. This doesn't reflect on the hotel as they can't help this, but thought I'd mention.
- The room was... not what I expected. I felt like I was sleeping in the guest room of my weird hipster friend (whose name is probably Juniper or Sparrow or something) who recycles their teabags and smokes too much weed. I get the "moxy" vibe, but in this case the room, though stylish, lacked substance. It was simply impractical. The end table was so low to the ground that it was basically useless to put things on. There were no trash cans (which was a new one. I've never been in a hotel room with no trash cans.) As for hanging clothes, there is no closet. They installed pegs on the wall, but in a strangely inconvenient spot—right where the TV, Sparrow's guitar, and the metal table he uses for making his pipes are located. Maybe put them on the other side of the same wall next to the art that was CLEARLY made when Juniper was high... or by a three year old. But I imagine it'd go on the opposite wall next to the LoveSac and picture of a hole to another dimension.
I wouldn't call the room "cozy." The colors were dark and felt unwelcoming.

Other than that, everything was great.

The hotel is cool and the staff is nice. I love that they have a free drink once you check in. Rooms are really cool but it was filthy. Hair in the bathroom, toilet not fully clean, sticky floors and tables/furniture were not fully clean. Definitely need to raise the cleaning standards.

Staff were kind and friendly. Convenient location. The room was clean but bathroom could use some updating. Poor water pressure and the door frame was chipped up and simply painted over.
