My Wife and I booked the private sunset tour with Monument Valley Safari on 10/03/24. Let me say that it was nothing short of amazing. Our tour guide, Don Mose, was incredible. In addition to showing us the very best sights, he taught us some Navajo words, told Navajo stories, explained the meanings of the Petroglyphs that we saw and gave a full history of Monument Valley as well as the Navajo people in general. The tour was visually stunning while also culturally deepening. Don took us to some places where the regular tours don't go and even helped us adjust our camera settings for maximum image capture. If you are planning on visiting Monument Valley, look no further than Monument Valley Safari. If he's available, ask for Don Mose - it will be an experience you do not forget.

We booked the 9-noon tour, had Toney as our guide who had been dong this for over 50 years! He gave great background on the Valley as well as the Natives past and present. Really enjoyed seeing the arches and petroglyphs (see photos) NOT on the public tour. The highlight was Toney drumming and singing in one of the arches!

Our tour guide was amazing, i think his name was Bobby. He did an excellent job showing us the sights, had water available, and was an excellent flute player which we got to hear at one of the stops. The seats in the open air truck were padded and comfy. The truck wasn't packed to the brim and there were 8 people on our tour. He gave us the perfect amount of time at each stop and we were back at the View lot in exactly 3.5 hours as planned. I recommend the tour, the fee is cheaper that a new tire or steering alignment will cost and they take you into some areas you cannot drive yourself. Only draw back was an absolutley misreable elderly couple on the tour. They couldn't stand each other. The old dude only cared about western movie facts, which bobby did his best to give, and he kept wandering away from the actual tour. Then he went on a rant to his wife about how this would all be free if it wasnt because of the Navajo charging for it...it is free to do the drive if you want to drive yourself. The old dude had a coniption while waiting for our tour to arrive because the operater of a different , totally unoffiliated tour, couldnt tell him where our guide was....how to describe a boomer without saying hese a boomer.

We enjoyed our 3.5 hour tour with Bobby. He took us on the scenic drive and to other places only accessible on a tour.
The bench seats are very comfortable, and the open sided vehicle was ideal for seeing the sights.
Bobby is great at describing the history of the people and the park. His photo tips were welcome, and his flute playing in The Big Hogan was also very special.

We just took the Monument Valley tour with Don, and I can confidently say it exceeded my expectations. This was my second time touring the Valley, and while I expected to see new areas and learn more about Navajo culture, this experience was far more than just sightseeing.

Don has an incredible depth of knowledge about both the monuments and their cultural significance to the Navajo and other Indigenous tribes both past and present. His insights went beyond just the Western films shot in the Valley, making the tour far richer and more meaningful than I had anticipated.

I will absolutely be returning to Monument Valley, and when I do, another tour with Don will be a must.

For Those Interested in the Cultural Aspect

If you are still reading, I’ll share more details for those particularly interested in the cultural depth of this tour.

Before our trip, I had read parts of the Navajo creation story and was eager to hear more specific insights from Don. Reading is one thing, but having an interactive conversation with an expert is a whole new level of learning. I had asked the tour provider if it would be possible to incorporate more cultural and historical information, and Don truly delivered.

As a former educator in Navajo language and culture, Don built up the information gradually, layer by layer, throughout the tour. I walked away having learned far more than I had even hoped for.

My wife, who had not done any reading beforehand, commented that she wished we had recorded the entire tour. In fact, she said it was the highlight of our entire 10-day trip out West. If you want to get even more out of the experience, I highly recommend reading just a little bit beforehand will gain even deeper insights from the tour.

As I mentioned earlier, I will definitely be returning for another tour with Don.

I had a private tour around Monument Valley and it was one of the most wonderful experiences I've had in the Southwest, a region I've visited often. Don was beyond fantastic and offered a truly fascinating and moving tour around a truly beautiful part of the world. I would highly recommend this company and look forward to taking another tour in the future.

As the only 2 on Bobby’s 9:00 am 3+ hour tour, we were honored to have such a knowledgeable Navajo guide. His flute playing echoing in the cave was an added treat. He is truly a credit to his native heritage. Many thanks for a wonderful and spiritual experience, Bobby. Diane & Carolyn

A fascinating and beautiful morning spent with Don Mose, driving through Monument Valley, understanding this place through his eyes, tracing back his knowledge through the understanding of his grandfather who in turn held the knowledge and wisdom of his grandparents. Don Mose has amazing stories to tell about the origin of the Navajo people. He is a special person who has done much for the language of the Dine and been an important teacher and counselor to young people. He has travelled far and wide helping people to reacquaint themselves with their native tongue. I did a private tour and the one on one time was really precious and the highlight of my one month road trip. The three or so hours flew by. Highly highly recommend.
Thank you so much Don Mose for sharing your time and energy with me, and true connection.
