This sandwich shop in Phoenix Midtown is an absolute gem! If you’re craving a true New York-style deli sandwich, this is the place to be. The portions are huge, the flavors are incredible, and the place itself is spacious with plenty of parking—a rare find! I tried the BBQ chicken sandwich on onion bread, and wow—the bread was unbelievably soft and fluffy, complementing the smoky, savory filling perfectly. If you’re in the area, this is a must-try spot for any sandwich lover!

On the upside, the Straw Sandwich is one of the best in the entire country, hands down.

On the down.
Typically the deserts are superb but rarely ordered since they serve such huge main course dishes. I bought a full coconut meringue pie (to go) for the family. Unfortunately, they must have changed the recipe and went with artificial coconut flavoring. It tasted like having sunscreen in your mouth.

If it wasn't a half hour drive I would be taking the pie back for a refund and most likely having another Straw😀

A friend recommended MMD, and it didn’t disappoint me as I enjoyed a bowl of their matzah ball soup and Reuben sandwich with creamy coleslaw. The soup had a very good chicken broth. I’d prefer more vegetables; and more than just carrots and celery. The matzah balls could have had more seasoning or flavor. The Reuben had a generous portion that I took half home for later. Enjoyed the pickle, and would be nice if they gave a 1/2 instead of a 1/4. The coleslaw was fine, and could have been more creamier. A lot of the dressing sat in the bottom of the bowl. The deli is spacious, and clean. Additional seating is outside, and when the weather turns nicer it will be the place to sit and enjoy your meal. The bathrooms are clean. Parking may be a challenge during their busy lunch hour. Before leaving I grabbed a slice of cherry-cheesecake. It was okay. My total tab for lunch was over $40. Tough call choosing between MMD and Scott’s Generation. Neither can compete with Sherman’s Deli in Palm Springs, CA. But here we are in Phoenix. I can’t drive 4-5 hours for great deli food. So the search continues for the best deli in town.

Best sandwich place I've been to! They are huge, so many options, highly recommend the Ruben! Fries are good and piled high, place was busy but we ordered quick, very cafeteria like atmosphere and we luckily found a table. Food came out quick, will definitely be going back! All in all, for a sandwich meal it's about $20 per person so a little pricey but you will be bringing some home for sure, definitely worth it!

We try to go here once a month. Living all the way in Sun City it's a long drive but well worth it. A little pricey for a sandwich but you get what you pay for. Here you pay for quality and that's exactly what you get. I enjoy the pastrami most of all. The slice it fresh throughout the day. The people are always friendly even when they're busy.

This place is a hidden germ. Restaurant is clean, food is great, and friendly customer service! We really liked the Asian salad with crispy wonton strips. Even my kids loved this place. Their cakes and pies looked so good, but too bad we were too full. Definitely will be back to try their desserts and other foods.

Overall the place was clean, and the staff had a great personality. The macaroni salad needed seasoning and was very bland. I had the Pastrami sandwich on an onion roll. It was good but not hot enough for me to truly enjoy. I got the stew to take home for dinner and it was absolutely divine!!! However, I will be going back to get the pastrami and stew again. There was an unbelievable selection of desserts!!! Go and enjoy!

I love the delicatessen style setting, I miss it from back east. Everything I have had here is good over the years. Service is awesome. Everyone is super friendly. Good place for hard to please people. They get to see everything and decide. There is no mystery as to why they have been in business for so long.
