My 6S review for what it’s worth.
First S safety – The hotel seem to be in a reasonably secure area with adequate lighting. The property seem to be safe. It was a reasonably nice neighborhood that I would walk after dark.
Second S - Shower. Reasonably good water, pressure and full range of temperature without sudden drops and surges of heat or cold. Sufficient clean towels were provided and replaced nightly.
Third S – Sleep –Bed was very comfortable not too hard not too soft. It could’ve used an extra blanket, but that’s only because I like to sleep warm. Conversely, the room did allow you to change temperatures with the thermostat and that was helpful. Hotel was next to a freeway, but the noise from that didn’t seem too bad. The rooms at the back of the hotel near the freeway might have been a bit more noisy. I don’t know. I stayed toward the front. Overall all the property was generally quiet.
Fourth S – Staff – Friendly, warm, understandable, reasonable, and responsive to your needs and questions. Housekeeping did a good job changing towels and bedding each night.
Fifth S – Setting (ambience) - The hotel seemed a bit dated and could use a refresh of paint and an update in its furnishings. There were some areas of the hotel that were gated or off or closed due to repairs. Overall, everything seemed in fairly good shape, just dated and needing a refresh. Despite this - and most importantly - everything was clean, organized, and presentable. Sidenote: the pool area and the hot tub were outstanding and it’s obvious that those are well-maintained regularly and were an excellent operating condition. Hot tub was perfect.
Final S’s- Spend and summary – Hotel was clean, comfortable, quiet and excellently priced. A great value for the spend. I would recommend to all AMEX users as a quick place to go when they need a central to LA that is very inexpensive.

the bed has no comforter, only two sheets to sleep under. the coffee is real gross don't even bother. the air conditioner is just a heater, it made the room hotter. none of the lights work, the microwave would not stop beeping I had to unplug it, but at least then I could charge my phone because it was the only outlet that worked.

Grimmy MOLD!!! mold and grim in the 2 different rooms they offered me. I am not complaining - I am warning you. The rooms are not cleaned, the walls in room 131 have drip marks down the walls, and the wallpaper is bubbling off the walls all over. The floors looked newer, but the rest is very old, at least 30 years old. The bathroom had mold by the vents and shower. With grim on the walls. The heat/air was broken, and it was very cold. There was a layer of dirt on top of the lights and anything hanging in the room. They only made the room look neat, but it was disgusting and moldy - mold around the inside window and doors.
I had to find a new hotel and cancel the rest of my hotel, they did charge me for 1 day.

The Hotel Mikado was a disappointing experience overall. While the location was decent, the service left much to be desired. The rooms felt outdated and not as clean as expected, with noticeable wear and tear on the furniture. The amenities were lacking, and the staff seemed indifferent to guest concerns. Noise was also a major issue, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. For the price, I expected a much better experience, and I wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

The room was very comfortable. The grounds were nice with a garden type setting. The rooms could use updating as some of the wallpaper was peeling. All in all it was a great stay for me. The restaurant next-door is very good.

The Mikado is not a 3.5 star hotel, it's barely a 3 star. That said, it's a reasonable place to stay if you keep in mind that it's a bit shabby, but not awful. I stayed in a ground floor room and then an upstairs room -- stay upstairs if you can. Though your door opens up to the freeway, the noise is not bad once you're inside your room. The big plus is you get a balcony overlooking the courtyard so there's more privacy than a main floor room that simply opens up to the courtyard, meaning you don't really want to open your curtains. Both rooms were a bit tired but clean, though a magic eraser would do wonders cleaning up the marks on the walls. The bedding was good and the lobby's coffee, juice and sugary pastries and granola bars were nice to have first thing in the morning. I never use in room coffee makers - they are gross! The location is great -- there's a Whole Foods a few blocks away and rooms have a fridge and microwave. All in all, for the price I paid (around $125/night), I would recommend this place for thrifty travelers.

The room was absolutely disgusting and reeked of cigarette smoke even though it was supposed to be a nonsmoking hotel. We checked into room 113 at 10 pm and were exhausted. We called the front desk and asked if he would please come by and smell the room and he refused and that they had no more rooms, but that we could check out. Good luck getting another hotel room at ten 10 pm on a Saturday nigh! The carpet was old and dirty, the paint on the doors and walls was peeling. It’s like they haven’t renovated or cleaned in 20 years and don’t even care. If you are asthmatic like me steer clear! I would give zero stars if I could.
