I have some concerns that were not well addressed. The person who owns and manages the guest house is not the owner of the Mercantile Hotel. Dirty wash cloths and hand towels were not replaced or available. The room I paid for was not given to me but a smaller room and I was told there was nothing that could be done bc the owner was not available. A wonderful couple greeted me and then I never saw them again until I was leaving. I asked for a credit the next day after I arrived bc I did not receive the room I paid for which had a queen bed and single bed - I was billed the same rate for a room with two single beds. I was told a couple of days after my request that I could be moved to a room with one queen bed but not the room I paid for. After spreading my things out I passed on the relocating. No clean wash / hand towels available, no hair dryer which other rooms had and no owner or decision maker available to speak with did not add up to the over $220 a night I paid for five nights. It was not far from my workshop which was great and the people I met who worked in the town were very nice.
I believe if you are going to take money and provide a receipt from your business that you should have the authority to take care of your customers concerns and provide a credit or give them the room they paid for.
They need a path for new wash cloths and hand towels - they had left large bath towels in the great room stacked up for self service. Hiking there is a dirty so this is important or was for me.
I asked for a credit for having paid for a room I did not receive and for not being able to get fresh towels or having use of a hair dryer. I never heard back after calling and emailing about the towels / hair dryer and asking what the room I was given normally costs. The first time I asked it was just about the room size and configuration and I was told they did not own this building and could not accommodate a credit for what I was given. They said I could have a room with a queen bed but again that was not the room I paid for and after I had spread out my clothes and toiletries it felt like a hassle to move everything.
When I discovered I could not get towels and did not have a hair dryer my inquiries were not answered or replied to.
The guest house is separate from the town area and you do hear some road noise but it is a cool building with a beautiful front porch. They had a self serve coffee set up with the little k cups.

The area is pristine with water falls and hiking. The restaurant food in the town is not bad. There are no grass fed options and limited organic and no wild caught salmon etc,, in this food area they could do more with wild caught and organic and grass fed - finished meats.

Absolutely gorgeous interior design, it looks like a museum. The staff is super friendly and will gladly tell you about the history of McCloud. She even made homemade cookies for us. Such an amazing person! The beds are super comfortable and still look really cool. However, the WiFi is pretty weak, so don’t come here for work, but rather for fun! 10/10 stunning bed and breakfast!

What a remarkable surprise. This beautifully restored lumber baron home sits atop a green and forested rise oriented directly to Mt Shasta, very residential, yet a few minutes' stroll to the historic McCloud tiny downtown. Each detail of the home was in keeping with the early 20th century; a home we would love to live in if we won the lottery. Dark craftsman wood, stone fireplaces, pool table with lots of room around. Wide, gracious verandas. Delightful breakfast. A big happy surprise.

This Victorian bed and breakfast is nestled in the trees with an expansive green lawn. We stayed in the Presidential Suite, so named because the view of Mt. Shasta out the window. There are communal places to relax on the large front porch or by the fireplace in the living room. It was quiet and calming. Breakfast was delicious and graciously served. Loved our stay!

This beautiful, historic bed and breakfast was built in 1904 as a private residence for the president and owner of the McCloud River Lumber Company. It retains it's original charm. There are breathtaking views of Mount Shasta. The rooms are very comfortable and furnished with period furniture. Delicious breakfast. Alice, the owner, grew up in McCloud and tells wonderful stories of it's history.

Loved our stay here! Very historic and a great step back in the way living was back in those days (albeit this is not the way it really was). Breakfast was simple and satisfying. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Showers are a little difficult (as seen in one of my pictures) so I just used the bath like when I was a kid. 🙂 There's no TV/phone/refer in the room(s) and the Wi-Fi is spotty - but that's the point!

On your stay here and you can take a 10min walk down to main street and go to the candy shop (wish the dinner train was still running, but seeing the remnants is good enough I guess) or one of the few new places that are sprinkled through the area.

Walking the railroad tracks are fun, too(they're not used anymore - at least from the way it looks) and take you back in history of when McCloud was a railroad town..

McCloud is always a great place to get outta the heat of the valley. And I always have a good stay here, no matter where I stay, but the McCloud Guest House has become my #1.

Highly recommended!

I recently took my wife out for my birthday dinner here. The atmosphere is great, quiet but friendly. I wanted to enjoy the cozy Lobby with a glass of wine and the owner plus staff made us feel just right! We had the crab cakes, mussels and steak. We enjoyed all of it!! Will go back for another dinner!!

The furnishings are quite special - old-time luxury and flair and yet ~very~ fresh and cozy. The morning breakfast was a truly lovely experience with special recipe dishes prepared on site and a handsome dining room to enjoy while eating. We had a great night's sleep in our quaint and quiet room and enjoyed hiking around the nearby McCloud Falls the next day.
