Lost Land Lake Lodge - Hayward, Wisconsin

We visited Lost Land Lake Lodge for cocktails, a fish fry, and to enjoy the lake view. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning for the following reasons: political signage, ambiance, and disappointing fish fry.

In detail:

• Political Signage: At the end of the driveway, there was a Trump sign. It might not belong to the lodge, but it’s visible, and we felt that political signage may not be ideal for a business setting.
• Ambiance: The lake views are nice if you’re seated by the picture window. However, the lighting is overly bright and harsh—more suited to a workshop than a dining room. There was old, dusty Christmas decor, and while there are fireplaces, they weren’t in use, which would have added to the atmosphere. Additionally, there was a faint but noticeable odor reminiscent of urine/feces, raising questions about cleanliness.
• Food: The fish was inconsistent—some pieces were fishy and overcooked, while others were thin, dry tail ends. The potato wedges were decent, though some were crunchy. The coleslaw was of the creamy, gloppy variety. On a positive note, the warm buttery rolls were a nice touch, and they serve lemon wedges with the fish. They’ll provide malt vinegar if requested.
• Drinks: The old fashioned was fine but heavy on ice and light on the drink. We appreciated that Spotted Cow was available on tap, which paired well with our food.
• Service: Our server was attentive and efficient, ensuring we didn’t have to wait despite the busy atmosphere.

Amazing fish fry and such a beautiful location! Staff members are simply wonderful. We make the trip whenever we are in the area and are never disappointed. (We did not stay at the hotel)

We enjoyed the fabulous Friday Night Fish Fry this weekend and it was amazing. The food & drinks were great, the waitress & bar service were wonderful and their entire customer service team is second to none!!

If you are hungry and in the beautiful Wisconsin Northwoods, do not miss this place. You will want to return again & again. You don't find this kind of courtesy, price or deliciousness in the big cities!

Would definitely recommend this place. Went to visit sister and brother -in-law and they took us here for Friday fish fry. Served family style. One of the best fish frys I have been to. Up near Hayward, Wi.

Had a delightful experience here. Wanted to bring my parents visiting in town to a great Friday fish fry and this place nailed it, I think. We made a reservation, and they even seated us a bit early. We had enough time to get drinks and move to a table. Although it was packed and our room had one waitress, she did a phenomenal job juggling everyone - and she was pleasant about it. Food came out quickly and everything was delicious. It's the first fish fry in the area that didn't make my stomach feel unsettled after, I think maybe it's not as greasy as other places? Very much appreciate the experience and showing my parents a good time.

Stopped by for the fish fry on Friday. Reservations are taken but we hadn't made one. In spite of that, the wait was short. Pat sat us as soon as he could. The waitress was very good. The regular fish fry was excellent! My wife had the broiled fish with dill (?) sauce. It was good. We will definitely stop again when we are in the area.

Edited after response from Establishment: We stopped by for dinner on Saturday August 19th at roughly 530pm. Prices were reasonable and staff was mostly friendly. Definitely on the comfort food side and not light fare. I ordered a salad The "award winning" one and it was SWIMMING in dressing. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was pooling at the bottom of the bowl it was served in. Yes is was a bowl it was oblong shaped about 8" long and 6" wide and I also asked for grilled chicken on it (why would l lie about that?). The food also took over half hour to hit our table which the waitress did apologize for. Nothing was bad but it wasn't great either. I would have asked for my salad to be remade but because we were so late and had a show to get to in Hayward I couldn't risk it taking 30+ minutes again.
