Theyvare amazing. Such a nice place for some of the best food around. Pro tip. If your passing through town call ahead and place an order for a dozen or more tamales a few days ahead frozen and they will most likely have them ready to go for ya! We got 8 dozen this trip plus ate lunch there. If you can get the jalapeno jack cheese and pork together then mix them on your plate!

Ignore the environment the tamales are magnificent and although we are only in the area every few
months we don't go by without stopping in. Also the frozen ones are delicious. The best kind of place with family owned and operated. Sometimes we drive the several hours just for the tamales. Thanks

As a winner of the James Beard “America’s Classics” award, a restaurant has to be family-owned, operating for over a decade, and serve “quality food that reflects the character of its community.” Los Hernandez seems to check all of those boxes. The interior was cute and homey, and tamales were delicious. I got the lunch combo with asparagus and pepperjack tamales and felt that the texture of the asparagus was an excellent replacement for meat. The masa had great moisture and texture too. It was a bit expensive and I felt like the salsa quantity provided was too little, but otherwise a great experience.

Tiny little restaurant in a tiny little town. Drove 5 hrs to get authentic Tamales. Unfortunately they didn't have the asparagus one as it's a seasonal one and it wasn't in season yet. But tried the cactus and pork tamales. The cactus & pepper Jack I found a bit too dry for my taste. The pork one was much better. It was my first time ever trying Tamales, and I gotta admit it's one of those acquired taste foods.
But the ladies at the restaurant were super friendly and great. For Tamales lovers I'd definitely recommend this place, they are worth the drive.

A must-go place in Yakima, very delicious!

For dine-in you can mix with the same price category. I did 3 pork and 3 chicken.
The cactus tamale is very good, we prefer this over asparagus.

A friend recommended we stop here and I’m so glad. Lunch specials of pork and chicken tamales. Then we got two more single tamales because it’s just that delicious. Got an order of beans and green salsa to go. I’m already looking forward to tomorrow’s rice and bean lunch! Will certainly be back in the Spring to try the asparagus tamales.

Wonderful wonderful hole in the wall. Tamales are well worth the James Beard award and a detour to visit. You can buy them in bulk frozen or to done there. It is a hot and stuffy in the summer but somehow that makes it more endearing. The tamales I had, pork, and pepperjack-asparagus (seasonal) were amazing. Our party of 5 ordered a dozen and then a dozen more!

The pork tamale was moist and full of flavor! I had a quick bite of my partner’s cactus and it had just the right amount of spice. Though the food was great, it seemed a bit unkept in the space. Of course we come to restaurants for the yummy food and not to scope out decor.
