There was no one at the front desk for me to check in. I waited for 15 to 20 minutes before I saw anybody. When someone finally came she was just arriving to work. I asked where was the other member. She said that the person left. She also had an attitude when I was finally checked in my room keys was not working so I had multiple keys. The worker stated that one set will access in and out of the building and the other will access the room.

We stayed here for two nights and things were mostly good. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a decent bed and an impressive bathroom. Parking was free and there was plenty of space. The price was fair and the neighborhood seemed OK, with a good Thai restaurant across the street. When we had a small problem and needed to call the front desk, the staff member on duty dealt with the issue instantly and professionally.||On the minus side, the breakfast was truly disappointing, although that's the case at a lot of hotels these days. A staff member told us that there would be more choices at breakfast if the hotel was more full - which is a weird thing to say, since it implies the hotel deliberately isn't putting in effort for the guests they actually have. In addition to this, I got thirsty one evening and found three different drink vending machines on different floors of the hotel - but all three were empty and needed to be restocked, which was frustrating.||However, the pluses outweigh the minuses overall, and we'd stay here again if we were in the area.

Convenient, fair priced hotel with potential. Room was good apart from a musty smell (smoking etc. ?) Easy check in and out. Checking in 3 hours early wasn't a problem. Basic breakfast - some things had run out including plates!

I spent two nights at the La Quinta Inn this past weekend. The room and the hotel were clean and all of the staff that I interacted with were pleasant. My 2nd floor room faced out onto University Ave. but I never felt as though it was too noisy.
The reason I have given this hotel 3 stars instead of 4 is largely because of the free breakfast they had on offer. I arrived well before breakfast was due to be over but still the food they had on offer was very limited and the coffee was just plain bad. I feel like breakfast is something simple enough that if you're going to include it as a perk for staying at the hotel then it should be done reasonably well.

La Quinta in Berkeley, CA is a Grand Hotel with old world charm and modern day comfort. It is "La Grand Dame" of the chain, and the staff and Housekeeping should be commended for the work that||they do. The few quirks and glitches could be remediated with a few capital improvements: there needs to be a ramp from the lobby to 1st floor for moving in/out with the cart. Smaller luggage cart is very clearly needed to access the smaller back elevator more easily. The stairs to 1st floor are an impediment to moving-in, moving-out, carrying heavy packages.. Some new furniture needed and/or old furniture in rooms needs to be cleaned. On a most recent visit, never did get a bath mat for the tub. Had to ask for one.

I can officially say I have stayed at the worse hotel ever.
Our first night the place was robbed and bear mace was sprayed. My family and I were coughing and our noses we’re running. I had to order hot cocoa and cough drops because we couldn’t stop coughing. My mothers boots were stolen out of our room while we were gone. We put a sign for do not disturb and when returning it was underneath the door. We were in the 3rd floor the hallway was ungodly hot and constantly smelted of marijuana even inside our room. The walls are paper thin so you can hear everything as well as outside as well. The area is very busy. The room we stayed in had stains all over the curtains, walls, and ceilings. The area is very sketchy. Lots of homeless people around the hotel and in the hotel. Breakfast wasn’t impressive at all instant eggs that were cold and the sausage was cold also. High crime rate. They have cockroaches. The staff was nice even considering everything that happened to us. This entire hotel needs big changes. I would be embarrassed to own this place. Management isn’t going to make a difference. It’s the actual owner that needs to makes changes. Regardless I will never stay at a La Quinta again.

Very old hotel, doesn’t look that it has had any remodeling. I travelled with my handicapped mother that has to use a wheelchair or scooter for mobility and the elevator went down twice, we were placed on the third floor so we did have to carry my mother down the steps at one point. There was a roach in our bathroom something really sticky in the carpet and although it looks clean it doesn’t feel clean at all. The sound of the loud train every night was very disturbing as well. The only good thing was the off street parking.

Without a doubt, this is the worst hotel stay I have ever had (thankfully). If I could give it negative stars, I would. If you are considering staying here because of proximity to Cal, like we did, please reconsider and go elsewhere unless you like:
1. the smell of pot EVERYWHERE (hallways *and* guest rooms),
2. mildewed walls (see photo),
3. stained, ripped, and sticky (ick!) carpets in the room,
4. no temperature control: the heating/cooling unit was completely broken (see photo, where the plug clearly sparked, melted, and one prong was intentionally turned so that it could not be used),
5. a bathtub that doesn't drain properly (requiring several hours to drain between 10-minute showers)
6. a broken window that can't close so that you enjoy the sound of trains and traffic all night, with multiple train horns at 5:45 am (this despite having a white noise machine on *really* loud)
7. lack of room key (seriously, management allowed the front desk to run out of keys (!?) so the poor night staff had to walk us to our room and use his master key to let us in, meaning we could never leave the room and return). There were five other people checking in behind us and the plan seemed to be for him to walk them all to their rooms the same way
8. terribly poor signage in the front parking lot producing ridiculous traffic jams - there is a back parking lot but we only discovered that ourselves when one member of our party went in to the front desk
9. sad breakfast that ran out of hard-boiled eggs 45 minutes into the four-hour breakfast
10. very rude morning manager who claimed to be unable to print out a receipt when we checked out
11. very thin walls allowing us to hear conversations in other rooms
The only redeeming quality of the stay was the effort by the night staff to try to get us into a reserved room late at night despite the lack of keys. He was doing his best in a bad situation, forced by management that clearly has no interest in running a business and evidently ignored his requests for more keys earlier in the week. I'm shocked that a national chain would allow their name on an establishment like this with so many fundamental problems.
