Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour - Merritt Island, Florida

The busses run every 10 minutes out to the Saturn 5 Pavillion, where you can see the full-size rocket and all its parts. The ride there is about 15 minutes each way, and it is your chance to see Crawler 2 and the VAB or vehicle assembly building.

There are informative videos played at points of interest to give you more history about the space port and its activities. This is best done first thing on your visit so you can stay on the main campus the rest of the day.

Bus drivers are friendly, and if you are in a wheel chair or need assistance, they are more than happy to help you on board.

The only way to really see the complex, the buses run between the entrance and the Apollo Saturn V complex, with stops along the way and views of the crawler lanes, various platforms, and distant gantries and buildings. Our tour stopped at the vehicle assembly building and Photo Stop A/B (Platform 39A/B historical viewing area)

There is a complimentary bus service to the other complex. It operates approximately every 15 minutes.
The bus drivers provide a brief tour and highlight notable landmarks along the route. We had a distant view of SpaceX and passed by the NASA vehicle accessibility building.

The initial bus tour that gets you to the Apollo visitor’s center is both essential, and worth it. But one thing that you just have to mentally prepare for is that you won’t be able to see everything clearly — some stuff will be off to the right, and some off to the left.

If you sit off to the right, you’ll have a clear view of the iconic rocket staging building and one or two of the launch pads. But if you sit on the left, you’ll have a clear view of the Space X launch pad and staging area. It’s a mixed bag — don’t be afraid to lean in over the people across the aisle and snap photos. Just don’t hesitate to let them do the same.

It’s about a 20-minute ride and is reasonably informative, mostly from a pre-recorded video presentation that seems to be timed with the bus tour.

It eventually drops you off to the Apollo visitor’s center. Do yourself a favor and go right to the presentation right there. We made the mistake of hopping right off to go to lunch and ended up having to go back and view the experience with another crew coming off their bus tour.

Very lucky to board Maoreen’s bus two times in a day! Maoreen’s smile is really warming. Her introduction about the launch pads and wildlife is calming and exciting. We love the bus tour.

The bus tour included with general admission is informative and has a stop at the Saturn V building. Our bus ride was about 30 mins to get to the building and about 15 mins to return. The return trip is more of a direct path. The trip out diverted around the VAB and also paused near another set of buildings. The first bus we were on seemed like it was almost brand new. The second bus was a little older and a little more cramped. Our youngest had a hard time seeing the video screens overhead on the second bus. Tip: sit on the right side of the first bus! We didn't get a full appreciation for everything as we couldn't see well from the left side. I've attached two photos to give you a comparison. Since the bus takes different paths to and from the drop off point, we missed out on some great photo opportunities.

Expect around a 15 to 20 minute wait for the busses even on a weekday. Pro tip: head to the bus tour first and work your way back to the parking lot as the wait gets significantly longer the closer you get to lunch
