Our son wanted to celebrate his 40th birthday by fishing for salmon in Alaska. We had been to Katmai Adventure Lodge four years ago for fishing, bear watching, & seeing the Valley of the 10,000 Smokes. We loved it then, & we loved it this year as well. The lodge has a variety of accommodations, but we chose the one with a bathroom in the bedroom. Beds were comfy, & the room was always clean upon our return. Food was delicious, & there were always beverages & a pre-dinner appetizer when we returned from fishing. Our guide Vinnie was great & knew all the best places to fish. One day, we all caught our limit of silvers by noon.||The website wouldn't let me do the rating below, but everything was excellent. So, if you're looking for a great fishing or varied adventure vacation, be sure to check out Katmai Adventure Lodge.

We wanted to visit Katmai National Park and finally settled with this lodge. We visited in July 2015 with my family and we are happy that we settled with Katmai Adventure Lodge. The staff are friendly and professional and everything went as planned. Brad the owner was very nice. I have been corresponding with him well before our July holidays and he was patience and was timely with all my questions. ||We went to Brooks Falls couple of days to see the bears and also did fishing. The lodge was clean and homely. The food was amazing and credit should go to our friendly chef Ben. He has a passion for cooking and you can see and taste the passion in everything he did. Every meal was delicious and the snacks he prepared was really nice. My son loved his meals. Juan, was with us during fishing and he knew the right spots and was super friendly and helpful. Every one in the lodge was friendly and helpful. Overall we had an amazing time.

I had wanted to visit and fish Alaska for years. I know several people who had fished in various areas and after advice from them decided on a river location where I would not be dependent on flying out daily. KAL met my criteria in many ways - private room and bath, peak season for Silver salmon, personal guide, relatively easy access by commercial air. The room was comfortable and clean, food more than adequate in amount and tasty (especially desserts), guides friendly and knowledgeable and fishing good to excellent for silvers and pink salmon. Rainbow fishing was good and very good on our fly-out to Margot Creek, where we also saw numerous bears. Flew to the Nushagak River camp overnight and experienced excellent Silver fishing. I expected it to rain every day and was prepared for it - 6 out of 8 days had at least some rain. I also wanted to primarily spin fish which the guides accommodated without any difficulty. This lodge is a good choice for couples and family. If I get back to Alaska it will be to this lodge. The only difference is I would return in early September when the Rainbow fishing should be better.

We were very pleased with the lodge and staff. Everyone from the Owner to camp hands (thanks Brandon) were very polite, professional, and friendly. They made us feel like a family! Our trip was a birthday gift to my wife to photograph bears, and wow did we see bears up close and personal. Our guides for bear viewing, Ted and Phil ( co owner) assured that we were safe at all times. I could not have asked for a better experience. I look forward to going back for some of the magnificant salmon fishing!

My wife and I and another couple went to KAL on a trip that focused exclusively on seeing the bears at Brooks Falls. Daily we were given a big breakfast, a boxed lunch, and driven to the float plane in the morning and picked up at the float plane in the evening and taken back to the hotel for a wonderful dinner. Although this cost us about 2 hours a day in transportation time we think it was worth it as the lodge is much nicer than camping at Brooks and than the accommodations at Brooks, if you can get them. For most people one full day at Brooks seeing bears might have been enough but we did 3 full days and loved it. The falls are action packed with big bears, baby bears, mating bears, fighting bears etc and the scene is constantly changing so its easy to get mesmerized and spend countless hours. The staff at the lodge were friendly and accommodating, the food was solid and the place was clean. I only wish I had taken them up on the night time fishing after we got back from the falls since its light until after mid-night! Pricing for the lodge, float planes, transportation, food etc was very good for Alaska which is on the more expensive side.

Alaska 2014||I have long dreamed of going salmon fishing in Alaska and found the Bristol Bay area in the Southwest is world famous for this. I also found there are several varieties of salmon which vary in size, quality and migrate on different rivers during different times of year. So I developed criteria for the trip: lodging with bedding (no tents), all meals, fishing equipment, a boat, guides and optional flyouts. Prices for the many lodges vary greatly from primitive (tents) to deluxe. I wanted midrange, nice but reasonable. Katmai Trophy Lodge near King Salmon which is serviced by Alaska Air seemed to suit my needs. I verified it was good by using Trip Advisor.||My son and I stayed 5 nights, 4 days fishing, each with a guide. We fished the Katmai river for 3 days catching a lot of sockeyes so the 4th we planned to fly to the Nushagak river to fish for King Salmon. The partners (Brad and Philip) also have a facility there (Nushagak River Adventure Lodge). But we found we had the option to fly north to Brooks Camp in the Katmai National Park. It is world famous for brown bears which were there at this time feeding on migrating salmon. There is a viewing platform on the edge of the river at a 6 foot water fall. The salmon must jump over the falls and many encounter hungry waiting bears. It is an incredible sight. ||The partners, guides, staff, accommodations and food were just great. The guides and staff cleaned, cut, vacuum sealed in packets, flash froze and sealed the fish in insulated boxes acceptable to airlines. It was a trip of a lifetime for me. First off let me start off by saying the two guys who picked folks up at the airport and dropped them off etc (one from California and one from Pennsylvania) were extremely nice and helpful. Helped with luggage, took you where you needed to go and were very nice to talk with. Secondly our fishing guide, Juan, was great. We are not your typical fisher-people πŸ˜‰ In fact the only fishing I've done is with my grandfather by the side of the lake. or ice fishing. Juan was very patient and offered much guidance. Not only that he helped me with walking thru the rushing water and uneven march land, making sure I didn't get knocked over πŸ˜‰ He caught a fish, let me reel it in and then cooked it for our lunch. That was so nice. Otherwise we would not have gotten anything πŸ˜‰ I did catch one but it got off the hook and I also caught a trout. I highly recommend Juan to guide your fishing..||||the accommodations were nice - good view etc. But the cabin could use a little work - it was not quite "finished" Also a few details were missed but the California dude cleared them up quickly. ||||Biggest drawback was the cost - but I guess if you add up each piece of the trip - plane to King salmon, floatplane, katmai, fishing and meals up - it would probably come close to what we paid.||||wifi connection not very good but hey - "unconnect" for a little bit.

We stayed five nights in the logde, which was a great experience. We did a bear viewing trip and a day trip to the valley of 10 000 smokes. The cook was really fabulous. The rooms were sufficient. We booked by email contacting the boss of the lodge. The communication was very poor and at the end we had some doubts, to get what we booked for several thousand dollars. Due to this trouble we cannot recommend this lodge.
