Very nice place for tourists to get information about the areas - if you are thinking to get to the park or the town nearby for a historical walk - here is a good spot to start and to get some rest. The staff was really nice and they had some nice merchandise as well.

A MUST STOP!! We stayed in Harpers Ferry for a month and bypassed the welcome center nearly every day because I just thought they had brochures and maps. Was I wrong!! We stopped in on the last day we were in town to check our tie-down straps and walk our dogs before hitting the road. We only went inside to use the bathroom and... SURPRISE... not only do they have super clean bathrooms and friendly staff... they have awesome t-shirts, water bottles, jelly, and tons of other souvenirs of Harpers Ferry and West Virginia. And yes, they have brochures and area history information too! I love this welcome center!! But they should call it "Welcome Center Plus More!!"

What’s a visit to a new place without a stop at their welcome center? Our visit to the Jefferson County, WV welcome center was one of the highlights of my trip as I loved getting to grab brochures of places to explore in the area, chat with the knowledgeable staff and of course marvel over all the merch themed around John Denver’s famous song.

They say that Jefferson County is where “Almost Heaven” begins, as it is the gateway to all the wonder that West Virginia holds.

Patrick, who was running the center for the day, was a wealth of knowledge and provided us with a ton of information about the area and ideas of places to check out while we were there. He was such a joy to get to know and we are grateful for all the information he was able to share.

It only took about a day for me to fall in love with the area and I am already daydreaming of going back.

What a beautiful and informative visitor center! My friend and I stopped in from out of town and ended up there for almost an hour. I don't know what it looked like before but this is a brand new building with an incredible layout and so many wonderful gift ideas and historical information. The young man Sam was the only one there working and he was super friendly and obviously enjoyed working there and helping us. We bought jams, shot glass and winter caps. We signed the guest book too. This is a must stop if you're in the area.

We were finally able to stop in while it was open. Loved the window scene. A few souvenir items are available. The person working was knowledgeable of the area but was sending visitors to Shepardstown for dining and over night stays instead of the many places in and around Harpers Ferry.

Be early or stay home. The natural beauty is highly diminished by the huge numbers of visitors. What a tragedy. Be destroyed by your own success.
