Inn at Virginia Mason - Seattle, Washington

I opted to stay in this hotel based on the location. For the price, I expected this hotel to be comfortable. I was looking forward to staying in this historic building. Unfortunately, my 6 night stay for business was a very unpleasant experience. I have stayed in historic hotels before and they can be very charming and quite beautiful. This one was run down, dingy and depressing. The front desk staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. I could not get a washcloth because they "ran out"...for 6 days. The benefit of this hotel would be its literal physical attachment to Virginia Mason Hospital. For loved ones of patients needing services at Virginia Mason, you could not get a closer or more convenient location. That being said, if I had a loved at Virginia Mason the least of my concerns would be my sleeping accommodations. I hope they give a steep discount to Virginia Mason patients/families/loved ones because those individuals should not have to pay 'sticker price' for this hotel. It serves the purpose for a close, safe hotel for Virginia Mason services.

Right in the heart of down town and close to a lot of medical services, In fact the hotel is actually attached to a medical building & hospital. Most of the people staying here having elected surgeries. Not far from, The convention center , the space Needle and the observatory. There is also a Catholic cathedral not to far away. Rooms are decent, but very dated the building does have charm, it was built in an early 1900s.

I stayed at this hotel for four nights due to a family member in the hospital next door. The hotel is located right next to the emergency room. That entrance and exit is always open. During the day there is an elevator you can take from the hotel to the hospital. |The room I had was just fine. The hotel is older and there is wear and tear. Everything was clean and they have daily housekeeping. I could open the windows a little bit but only one had a screen on it. A box fan was provided which helped cool the room. I would probably be reluctant to stay here in the summer months due to a lack of air conditioning. |Everyone I encountered at the front desk was polite.

My husband was medevac'd down from Alaska, and after spending 2 nights in the hospital room with him, I desperately needed a couple of nights of respite. The Inn was perfect and a God-wink. It's a clean and spacious room, a clean bathroom, and the inn is attached to the hospital, so I felt safe walking back in the evenings. The front desk folks were very nice and accommodating as I was early to check in. I'm grateful this was available, especially during a difficult time.

The Inn's real MVP is Jhenni! She's the lobby's attendant, and on top of keeping the place spotless she put down her cleaning to help me with my bags. She's very kind.

The staff at the front desk was pleasant, and entry to and from the hotel was easy.

My stay was great overall. It's an old building frozen in time, with a lot of character. 500 layers of paint and a kind of freaky mirror at the end of the long hallway? Absolutely. I enjoyed the old architecture and art. It felt like I was visiting an eccentric old ant who happened to run a hotel.

The water pressure is stronger than the tub's drainage, so don't turn the water on all the way unless you're taking a bath.

Free coffee in the lobby, and a K-cup machine in my room. The room also sported an iron and hangers, a little table and lots of lamps. It was larger than I expected, though it was hard to imagine it as someone's apartment back in the day.

It's winter, and the room was nice and warm. When I cracked open the window I could hear the AC from the hospital - good white noise to help me sleep.

I was really impressed by how clean my room was. packing up in the morning, I dropped a shirt behind The dresser, and when I pulled it out there wasn't a speck of dust on it. That's impressive.

After reading the reviews about how terrible the parking was, I planned to park at the Buck Pavillion lot, but found street parking three blocks away. The inn is on a hill, but I (an able-bodied person) found it easily walkable.

A solid 2-star hotel with some needlessly dramatic reviews, imo!

This hotel usually shows up in a search as being the cheapest in the area. It’s a great value and exceeded my expectations. The building is quite old and the rooms are a little dinged up, but also clean and spacious. Both times we’ve stayed here, it was very quiet. Although it is technically not in downtown Seattle, it is a short walk there. The beds are firm, like a futon, but comfortable. There currently is no breakfast available. The restaurant closed during the pandemic but is scheduled to reopen. Each room has a microwave oven and a fairly large mini fridge. Don’t keep stuff on the top shelves or they will freeze. There is also a coffee maker with complimentary pods. You can park in the Virginia Mason visitors lot for $22 per day.

CONS

The televisions are set to the wrong aspect ratio and are unwatchable. There is no way to adjust them. This would be an easy fix and I will mention this to the front desk. It might be a good idea to pack an HDMI cord so you can watch stuff from your computer or iPad.

Because there is no AC, I would not recommend staying here in the summer. Seattle summers have been much hotter in recent years with global warming. Because the building is so old, this is not an easy fix.

My granddaughter and I stayed here for the night before my surgery. It a quaint old hotel, small rooms, but cute. Was downtown Seattle, so all we could see was other businesses. We enjoyed staying here and would do again. Great place for our stay.

I was so in my feelings about this hotel that I had to call in a favor from my dear companion, the great Lady Whistledown to write this review so my nerves could get the rest that would escape me this weekend. The review below:

Dearest Avid Reader,

It is with a heavy heart and an even heavier quill that I must report the most shocking experience at The Inn at Virginia Mason in Seattle, Washington. The whispers in the drawing rooms and the gossip in the ballrooms are but faint echoes of the displeasure I encountered.

Upon arrival, one would expect a warm welcome and a refreshing reprieve from the stifling heat of the summer. Alas, this was not to be. The extreme heat was only exacerbated by the complete lack of air conditioning, leaving guests to languish in discomfort. The situation was further compounded by windows that resolutely refused to open, denying any possibility of natural ventilation.

One might hope that the guest service relationship would offer some solace. Unfortunately, the staff at the front desk displayed an astonishing lack of courtesy and assistance. Their behavior was intentionally unhelpful and, at times, downright rude. Requests for amenities were met with indifference, and even the simple desire for a plate was left unfulfilled. Additionally, the refusal to hold luggage until the evening added to the overall disappointment, and any attempt to speak with a manager was met with outright refusal.

The rooms, already dark and drury, were burdened with an unpleasant odor, casting a pall over what was meant to be a restful retreat. Even a person of logic and scientific mind would find it hard not to be convinced that the place wasn’t indeed haunted. The decor and lighting were woefully inadequate, contributing to an overall sense of gloom.

However, in this sea of disappointments, there was one beacon of hope: the cleaning staff. Their excellent manners and professionalism were a stark contrast to the shortcomings of their colleagues at the front desk. It is upon their diligent shoulders that the reputation of this establishment precariously rests.

Let this be a lesson to all that even the grandest of facades can conceal the most glaring of deficiencies. One can only hope that the management takes heed of these observations and endeavors to elevate their standards.
