I live there. Hotel Stockton is one of the city of Stockton's greatest treasures. Once upon a time one of America's finest Grand Hotels, opening it's doors to the public in 1910. It was refurbished into apartments over 20 years ago. A very unique place to call home indeed!

ā€œHotel Stocktonā€ was originally Stockton and the Stockton Downtown Waterfront’s premier and popular accommodations during Stockton’s emerging and busy era for its port’s shipping, trade and travel, and ca. mid 21st century is no longer a hotel, nor does it offer accommodations to the public as a hotel. It is a residential apartment building retaining the name ā€œHotel Stocktonā€ aka the ā€œThe Stocktonā€ since 1910. Some people refer to it as it’s tenants being of elder age, and or people with disabilities living here. That’s not entirely true as there are a mix of ages, ethnicities, races, backgrounds, and not specifically elder people with disabilities. I’m living here 9+ years as of 2/3/2023. This building was constructed in 1910 as a grand hotel, and is on the National Register. The property languished 45 years until reopening in 2004. Saved by an effort led by the city of Stockton. CFY Development/ Cyrus Youssefi, Applied Architecture:Michael F. Malinowski AIA, and many others. ā€œThe Stocktonā€ as it was originally known, is a key in the ongoing revitalization of downtown Stockton’s affordable housing. Now known as the Hotel Stockton comprising approximately 100 residential apartments and several business spaces, and retains most of its original design, charm, structure and decor after having a major facelift including earthquake retrofit. The Hotel Stockton property serves mostly as an approximate 100 unit apartment building comprised of ā€œsingle occupancyā€studio and 1 bedroom apartments. Most apartments are unique from another, and few are better than the rest. The ground floor is the huge lobby with mailroom, and manager’s office. 2 elevators and open stairway to all floors. There is a mezzanine floor above and overlooking the ground floor lobby that has several round tables with chairs. Apartments are floors 2-5. Less attractive apartments are located in the center of the building with a open breezeway from the bottom floor to the sky with exposed central air conditioners that divide the building North and South, and all floors run East to West. Most apartments on the outer perimeter have good views which include the downtown Waterfront, civic center, and Janet Leigh Plaza. All apartments have intercoms that’s connected to the Manager’s Office Front Desk. Maintenance is responsive and good. The 6th floor is a faction of the entire building’s space at the top which was originally the ball room, and maintains its high vaulted beamed ceiling. It’s a common area for residents and guests that includes a limited library, pool table, lounge. The rest of the property on the ground floor accommodates commercial spaces, including a now defunct restaurant. This building is prevalent in City Civic Centre, and inviting for tourists because of its history and architecture described as Spanish Revival. The longtime manager has been respectable and professional.
Notice to Travelers: This is not a Hotel open to the public. It’s down faults: 1 elevator is usually out of service, interior ambiance is lacking in updating its old smelly hallway carpets, no security, front and rear entry/exit doors are simple deadbolt access, and often left unlocked where access by non-residents is a problem. Building’s parking garage has limited space, and space is at the discretion of the manager. The building does not have ergo efficient windows; meaning they are original, and a problem keeping rooms cold or warm. Utility is all electric.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW:The business that occupies the space in the building with its address at 110 N. El Dorado St., and operates a venue above it in a large space open-air terrace once known to the hotel guests as the ā€œGarden Terraceā€ immediately adjacent to apartments on the West side of the building including myself, for 8 years, caused intolerable levels of ā€œmusicā€ shaking the building walls and windows by its night club and special events operation. The business operator had proved non-responsive to quality of life for the tenants like myself in the building.

Hotel Stockton is a registered National Historic Landmark. It has stood the test of time and is a significant part of the city's history. Converting the building into a mixed-use structure for affordable housing and small businesses is One Way Stockton is trying to make downtown Poppin again. It is a beautiful building and has two office spaces for lease. Anyone motivated enough to open a business there should fare well as it is a very busy corner and really awesome place.

A resident Hotel. Older folks, or limited income for the most part, trying their best to be independant. It's 'historic' in it's own right - the building, the waterfront area, Weber Point - or even some of the "residents"! Not OPEN to the public.
