What an awesome place! I love good BBQ and this place definitely has it! I had the ribs, fries, and fried okra. The fries and okra came out hot and fresh! The ribs were incredible and the hot bbq sauce was delicious! Ribs are fall off the bone and smoked to perfection. Whenever I’m in Troy I will visit and recommend you check this place out!

On our way back home from a beach trip, we always look for local places to eat. We especially like to home cooking or BBQ joints! We stumbled upon Hook's BBQ in Troy, AL. As soon as you pulled into the parking lot, you got that good old smoke smell lofting in the air. My wife got the pork plate with some outside side meat, fried okra & french fries. I got the combo plate with pork, ribs, fried okra & french fries. Their sauce was a little too red (ketchupy) for us - we like a yellow/brown (mustard base) sauce best. The only mistake we made - my wife got her sauce on the meat instead of on the side...too much! I got mine on the side, so I could control it and taste the meat! I also got a serving of there camp stew which is like brunswick stew. Theirs was good, but I don't put beans or potatoes in mine. Theirs also seemed to only have pork meat, I like some chicken in mine too. Overall we gave it a thumbs up and worth giving them a try when you are in town...a good local restaurant with a long heritage of BBQ cooking! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention...you get a wonderful slice of pound cake with each plate dinner!

Twice I have went through drive thru, asked for extra cheese, meat..only to be charged double.23 bucks for a regular one..in the photo..the extra meat is whst doesn't have sauce..only 1 sour cream instead of two..no double cheese.
And I could have gotten 2 for this price. Shameful..I did call..and was told thats what I paid for and xtra cheese wasn't spelled out. Do not waste your money.

Pretty average BBQ. I see why some people complain about the sauce, it was basically hot sauce. It’s a good thing they are set back a bit from the highway because as I was dining in the take out line got very busy.

We ordered the half chicken and also a rib dinner. There was more than enough food! The okra was fried to perfection, just wasn't much seasoning, just simple fried okra. The ribs were a little smaller than what you'd expect for spare ribs, and the flavor was just ok, nothing special!

The service was great, the cashier was very courteous and polite. Didn't wait too long, we ordered at the drive thru, and the food was brought out to us.

NOTHING we ordered would make me say, " I have to go there again"!

I sat in and had a BBQ sandwich and fries which was pretty good and hot! I was greeted upon entering which was nice! I noticed the young lady in the drive thru. She smiled a lot and seemed very friendly with all the customers that came through. She definitely set a great example for her co workers. I would love to come back and see everyone wearing matching hooks bbq t shirts!

Hook's is an attack on the senses. Smoke was rolling out of the chimney when we pulled up, the dining room has a style and decor that's soothing and comfortable, and the food is packed with flavor. We were most impressed with the smoked chicken sandwich. Tender and juicy, not many joints execute chicken this well. The pulled pork with the house sauce, which is orange in color, is delicious. Also loved the baked beans and fries and every plate comes with a slice of pound cake. Self-serve fountain drinks and a couple TV's with sports are features. Friendly, kind, and engaging staff round out the experience.
