Food was excellent. I got the burger with coleslaw on the side. The coleslaw was chopped very fine, but the taste was stellar.
My husband ordered the catfish with fried okra and potato salad. It was all delicious.
The wait staff was welcoming and kept our drinks full and they have the "good ice". All in all a great experience!

From the outside this place doesn’t look like much. But once you’re inside it’s very homey feeling, the staff is extremely nice and attentive, and the portions are huge for the price. Get out of the big city and eat at the Hickory Chip!

Rustic off the path restaurant. Not far from the interstate, food and service was excellent. I had the ribeye and potato and limas. Steak was perfect, everything was just a great experience. You can tell it’s definitely a locals place. My favorite kind of place. Everyone is as so friendly. Will definitely be back and highly recommend you stopping by to eat if you are in the area.

We ate here for the first time in years. This place use to be good but not anymore. The fried green tomatoes tasted like pure flour and pepper. The steak was very tough and dry! We were only checked on twice during the whole meal. Where we were sat looked like it hadn't been dusted in a very long time! It cost over $70 for 2 adults and 1 child to eat here. For what we paid for our food could have been at least mediocre. Its also not very inviting to smell sewage outside the restaurant. That should havw been our sign not to even go in but we gave them a chance. Disappointed is an understatement. We will not be back.

My parents and I came here for dinner on a Friday night. The place was packed, which made me think the food must be *amazing*, right? Wrong. First off, the atmosphere reminded me of a combination between the flea market and cracker barrel, and to top it off their wifi network was down, I'm guessing so that people can't write bad reviews while they're
there. Tacky plastic plants and dusty old decor greeted us as we took our seats. We waited an hour for our food, which I was hoping meant that it was going to be fresh and delicious, but sadly that was not the case. Their food would be better suited for a retirement home or school cafeteria. I ordered the rib plate with fried okra and cole slaw, which for a place called The Hickory Chip should be a solid choice. Nothing tasted like it was seasoned at all. I'm pretty sure their dry rub was just salt and pepper. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, I'll give them that, but most of the meat was so chewy and dry it reminded me of pork jerky. Only about half of the meat was actually edible. I had to drown it in barbecue sauce (which was actually quite good, but sadly wasn't used while they were actually smoking the ribs or else they'd actually be tender and flavorful). The fried okra was cold, bland, and mushy. And the cole slaw? The cole slaw was an insult to generations upon generations of southern women everywhere. I don't know why, but they *pureed* the it. It, too, was bland, had the consistency of baby food, and wasn't even cold. I called it cole slop. I literally could drink it through a straw. I'm pretty sure the tears i shed were the most flavorful thing about it. The meal was served with a toasty, buttery slice of texas toast, which truly was the best thing about the entire meal. The place has potential, I'll give it that, but you can tell nobody there puts pride in their work. Do better, guys. There's no reason a place like that should serve such underwhelming food in such a tacky atmosphere. I feel like I got Hickory jipped.

Hickory Chips is the very definition of a hidden gem. It's not in a very busy area and has an unassuming look about it, but every part of this restaurant is surprisingly cozy. With a cheerful, old-fashioned atmosphere and a large variety of dishes, from catfish to steak to sweet potatoes, it's got a vibe that fits perfectly with the rural Alabama charm.
