Rita is incredible. She manages the whole place by herself, has flawless communication in preparation to get you to Galena, is super reliable and thoughtful. The place itself is really well designed and maintained - nothing is out of order, everything is clean and neat, the place is quiet and peaceful. We stayed in the Hellman Sweet and it was way better in person than in the photos. The view was spectacular, we woke up to birds chirping, the bed was comfortable, the furniture was period appropriate to a Victorian house and the bathroom was modern. There was a secret balcony off of the bathroom in the bedroom and it was so romantic to sit there after a delicious Rita- made homemade breakfast. Parking is easy, driving to Galena is super breathtaking, and the site is right near downtown without all the noise. Rita stayed up until 2am for check in for us because we got lost- she had fresh cookies waiting for us and kept in contact with us the whole time. Everyone in town was super nice and the neighbors were inviting. The history of the town was very interesting, the shops were great, food was delicious, and the local cats are friendly. Come swing on the porch at Hellman and sit in the original furniture in the dining hall- you won't regret it!

My husband and I, along with our friends, had a very enjoyable stay at the Hellman house and Rita was such a gracious host. She had fantastic breakfasts, gave us great recommendations on what to see and do since this was my first time visiting Galena which made our stay relaxing. We plan to come back again and stay at the Hellman Home.

Best breakfast I’ve had at a B&B in Galena (I’ve stayed at 2 others). Room was cozy. Plenty of hot water and a great soaking tub in the Eleanor room. Amazing view. Rita was a great host. Not far from downtown. Great history. Highly recommend!

First visit here, and was for our 30th wedding anniversary get away, and really enjoyed the experience. Stayed in Eleanor room and loved the old fashioned bath tub. The house is fantastic with many interesting historical items to enjoy. Rita the hostess was great with local information, and very accomptiating support. Shared time with us about our local experiences. Loved the served German breakfasts. Only one area for recommendation is to city of Gelena to enact a no train whistle zone like city of Leclaire, Iowa has, would make for a better/quieter neighborhood. Overall great experience and highly recommend staying here.

Awesome place to stay! We loved the house and Rita was a wonderful hostess with a delish breakfast too! She gave us so much info about Galena we would have otherwise not learned. I would for sure stay here again 🙂

Rita is super nice. Had a wonderful German pancake for breakfast. Stayed in Hellman Mastersuite. Hubby is the great great nephew of First owner, John V Hellman. Will be back. Highly recommend this B&B
