BEDBUGS! The location was great, but the rooms and hotel needs attention. We found bedbugs crawling in our bed. Went to report it and the lady at the front desk asked “what was she supposed to do about it?” It was very late so we said another room would be nice. Before we even set our things down we checked the beds in the new room. Bedbugs there too, and the mattress under the mattress cover was disgusting. We left and drove home all night. I would leave no stars if that was possible.

Disappointing Stay – Hotel in Poor Condition Despite Great Location

I stayed at this Hampton Inn for two nights on a recent business trip and chose it because of Hampton Inn's reputation and the fact that it is located in a higher-end area of Birmingham. Unfortunately, the condition of this property was far below Hampton Inn standards and truly disappointing.

The hotel is currently undergoing renovations, but what concerns me is how it was allowed to deteriorate to this level before any updates began. The common areas were worn down, with scratched walls, chipped paint, and stained carpeting throughout the hallways. My guest room was in even worse shape. The furniture looked like it had been pulled from my child's playroom. The carpet had visible stains, and the walls and doorframes were scuffed and peeling. Even the HVAC unit had stains on it.

The bathroom was the most disappointing aspect of the room. The bathtub was stained, the caulking was dirty and overall it felt neglected rather than simply outdated.

To be fair, the staff was friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. They were the one redeeming quality of my stay. However, even great customer service can’t make up for a substandard physical environment.

I understand renovations take time, but there’s no excuse for a hotel carrying the Hampton Inn name to be allowed to reach this level of decline. Hilton should take a closer look at this property to ensure it meets brand expectations once renovations are complete. Until then, I cannot recommend staying here.

Unfortunately, I failed to check the reviews before booking this hotel. I usually don’t hesitate to book at a Hampton Inn because we have always found them to be a solid choice for a clean, well kept property. We found this hotel well below the standards of a typical Hampton Inn and one we would not recommend. Even though the hotel had signs apologizing for the renovation, we saw no signs of anything being renovated. Everything we saw during our stay was not only very dated, but also not clean. We rented two rooms and both of them had issues. The carpet was stained and filthy, the furniture was banged up and the wallpaper (next to the toilet) had stains all over it. Everyone in our party felt the same way. We should have checked out immediately, but we kept thinking it couldn’t get worse and it would be fine. Pulling the sheets back that were not clean was the last straw.||On a positive note, the staff could not have been nicer. If the hotel were up to Hampton standards, we would definitely return as everyone we encountered was so pleasant.

***Updated - The management did reply to my review and spoke to me on the phone for a resolution. I appreciate management making best effort after the fact to come to a resolution.

Having booked a Hilton Honors hotel several times in the past, the rooms have been very nice, clean and comfortable.

Come to find out on our arrival, the majority of the Hampton Inn is under full remodeling including rooms on our actual floor versus closing individual floors down for the remodel.

With rates at $200 per night, this is completely unacceptable. The condition of the hotel hallways and neighboring, gutted rooms with full access (no knobs and open doors) were accessible if you opened the doors. Who's to say a young child doesn't go into these gutted rooms and hurt themselves.

We had 3 separate rooms in total visiting for a family wedding. Although our room did have comfortable beds and hot water, our water pressure went to a dribble in the sink. The other rooms had cold water and plumbing issues.

The hotel didn't offer any discounts or refunds. I have never stayed in a hotel that was under construction that didn't accommodate the guests with something!

I don't understand why this hotel is even open or at least keep the remodel one floor at a time.

We heard banging noises and loud slamming noises throughout our stay.

I would never recommend this hotel to anyone and it should be disclosed that it is under construction.

No one wants to stay in a hotel like this or pay top dollar.

Stayed there for a wedding and room keys did not work. Locks had to be completely changed twice. Locked out of my room with all of my luggage in side multiple times. This happened to multiple other guests as well. TV did not work. Stains and hair in bathroom. Stains and ripped furniture throughout hotel. Service was very nice and as helpful as can be, but rooms and building undeniably dilapidated.

Such a disappointment with a Hilton hotel. Hotel says it is under renovation. There were no signs of renovation. It is an extremely run down hotel. The first room on the ground floor smelled terrible. Management gave me a better room which had a faint odor to it. It was not really clean. Ceiling needed repairs. Box springs exposed. No tp holder. Poorly maintained. See photos. Advertised with business room but no computer.
Desk attendant did print some documents for me which I had to email to her but it seemed to be difficult and took a lot of time.
Good area, not a good hotel. Do not recommend and will not stay again. Sad.

I could have put aside the run down hotel room and the awful smell through out the hotel but the service is the nail on the coffin here. We stood at the front desk with 3 other guests trying to check in and eventually everyone left out of anger but us. Finally a woman comes to desk without a care in the world. We ask for a room and she tells us "you have to book it online". We ask if we can just get one right now if there is any available? She just shakes her head no. We go outside to our car and book the room. Carry all our items back inside and she then shows us the room we booked isnt clean or ready.......... this is when I throw a bit of a fit and then she says "King bed okay"..... and booked us a room.....
Why she couldn't have done that in the first place is beyond me. Why make the guests book a room just to tell me its not ready? It seemed as though she just didnt want anyone staying at the hotel.
Horrible service, horrible smell, room ac didnt work, carpet was ripped up, mirror on wall was falling off crooked, bathroom was filthy. Will never go here again that is for sure. I wanted to complain to anyone else maybe a manager but the same lady was at the desk at checkout 12 hours later. So I believe they are understaffed or she is only person there for long periods of time.

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. The Hampton Inn in Mountain Brook is hands down the most disgusting, vile, and poorly maintained hotel I’ve ever encountered. The second we walked in, we were hit with a horrible smell — a mix of cigarette smoke, old carpet, and something I don’t even want to identify. The halls were dirty, the walls grimy, and the entire place felt neglected and unsanitary.
When we got to our room, it somehow got worse. There was hair in the sink, dust on every surface, and stains on the sheets and furniture. The bathroom looked like it hadn’t been cleaned properly in weeks, and the air conditioner coughed out a musty smell that made it impossible to breathe comfortably.
We didn’t even sleep here. After one miserable hour of trying to convince ourselves it might get better, we packed up and left to find another hotel. That’s how bad it was.
For a Hampton Inn, this place is a total disgrace. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration — go anywhere else. Sleeping in your car or on a park bench would’ve been cleaner and more relaxing than this nightmare.
