I dropped in to Gyppo on a serene Humboldt late afternoon. It was my first visit to Whitethorn, having previously visited Shelter Cove on two occasions. It was a Wednesday evening and it was a medium sized crowd with Milo the Dog in fine form greeting customers. I loved the truffle fries (not the right name) and the rockfish tacos. I met Dave, who was running Bingo and making witty commentary. We had a great time chatting by the fire with the cook afterwards. The building the brewery is in is unique, with art along the walls of the parking lot. I drank the Whistle Punk (West Coast IPA) and Fathom the Bowl (English Oatmeal Stout), both 7% and left me satisfied. The two servers, Mel and Mike (?) were outstanding.I look forward to returning to this quaint coastal gem.

We live here and share this beautiful place with our wonderful brewery. I think you'll find if you're patient with the ordering set up, you're going to get some of the best food in the area. Best fish and chips in town, not to mention bomb clam chowder featuring an amazingly fresh sourdough bowl.. And if you're not in that, there's plenty of pub food like their cheeseburgers that are just as good as anything else. Or just come over for a drink and sit out by the fire. By far the best beer in the area with a great selection.

It is in a great spot, it looks nice in there. They have you order on a QR code, which is nice in some ways and can be confusing in others. Get there early, it can get busy. Food is good, but it is expensive and everything is "a la carte" which is always a terrible option in my opinion. Their kitchen is small and the service was SLOW. The only reason it gets four stars instead of three is because the food is good and the place is nice.

Two of us had dinner here on a weekend. It was the best dinner we had in shelter cove. They were very busy but did a good job given the crowd. They had live music which was really nice. We had time to kill so made a nice but cold evening. Maybe blankets that cold guests could wrap around to fight the fog.

This place has a great atmosphere and a great view. They are dog friendly in the outdoor seating area. The fish was nice and fresh, my husband liked his burger. The fries are just fries and I sampled some beers and they just weren't my taste. It's just a long road to drive if you don't live in the area. They had a band playing so that was cool.

Local rock fish for their fish and chips and ceviche. Both excellent, and they have a tasty in-house brewed non-alcoholic beer option. Amazing find in Shelter Cove, perfect after a fun loop around the Paradise Royale trail!

My wife and I stayed in Shelter Cove for 2 nights. There were not many options to choose from (we didn't want pizza, 1 was a bar with fried food only, and the other was closed for the season), so we dined here both nights. The menu is limited, but they have specials to change things up a bit.

First night, wife and I both had the smash burger. She had it straight up. I substituted for beef patty. Mine was OK. She loved hers. I tasted her patty, and it was seasoned better. Cocktails is a new thing here, and you can tell. The waitress were trying their best.

2nd night, I had their pasta special, and the wife had their grape fruit salad. Much better this time around. Drinks were better, too. The bartender was on duty.

Both nights had live music. The atmosphere was very welcoming. Lots of mingling (small town). They have outdoor seating as well and a fire pit. Service was slow, even when we sat at the bar. There were three waitresses the first night and only two the second. Some mistakes were made, but I think it's because people were moving tables. Regardless, the staff was very polite and friendly.
