The property is very beautiful, rooms are very spacious, and pool, hot tub, and sauna were all working, in nice condition.

Reading through previous reviews, it seems like there were staffing challenges last year that made for unpleasant experiences for previous guests. We’re happy to report none of those situations were the case for our stay this weekend.

We received excellent, friendly service from the front desk, spa associates (we had incredible facials and massages), and the bartenders at Boundary Waters. It certainly seems that previous staffing issues have been resolved.

The only suggestions we have for an improved experience would be to have later food offerings on the weekend (or to at least serve food until the kitchen closes). Kitchen closes at 9:00, but in reality it closes at 8:30, because you can’t order anything after 8:30.

Lastly, the breakfast offerings are pretty meager, and would be something you’d expect to see at a budget motel, not a resort.

This review for 1905 Steakhouse in the Four Season Resort.
Let me start off by saying I wish I wasn't writing this review. However, I think it's important to address how something that was supposed to be an eventful night out celebrating, turned into the worst experience I have ever encountered, at this restaurant on September 21. 2024

The steaks were cold. The soups were cold. I ordered the salmon and it was completely overcooked and dry. It was inedible. The sides were also poorly prepared and lacked flavor. Myself and 3 other adults barely ate any of it.

We had high expectations based on the positive reviews, but everything about our experience was a major letdown. The food was mediocre at best and the staff seemed disinterested in providing good customer service.

I will definitely not be returning.

We didn't stay at a hotel.
But we did have “dinner” at their high-end “restaurant”. 🙄1905 Steakhouse 🙄
If you could imagine anything going wrong with this place, add some more.
I usually don't leave bad reviews- if I don't like it I just ignore it and not visit again.
Places I like in any way I would leave 5 stars and maybe write a few good words.
I waited long enough to see if management would reach back to hear concerns and complaints, but ignorance of the manager is tell all you need to know
Stay a way from this “restaurant”

P.S. I couldn’t find this establishment for waisted food and $ on Google maps either.

I was floored by this hotel. From the outside it’s an absolutely beautiful hotel to stay at. However, similar to other reviews, there’s major issues within the hotel. There are not enough staff members for this hotel to be ran successfully. The girl who checked us in had informed us that the steakhouse on site would be closed over the weekend but if it wasn’t we’d need to reserve 24 hours prior so we wouldn’t be able to get in anyways with when we checked in. When we asked about the other restaurant opened, we were told that there was a 2+ hour delay with food (chef was bringing out cold food from other guests who mentioned). When we asked what was within a 30 minute distance for food, she told us she was not from the area and could not help us. If you’re going to have someone at the front desk, you should have a list of places within a 0-30 min and 60-90 min drive for guests to quickly reference.

Furthermore, similarly to other reviews, the hot tub was not in working condition. The elevator kept breaking over the course of the weekend we overheard from other guests so we opted to take the stairs during our stay and sent our luggage down on its own to not get stuck as everything was broken. The ice machines were also out of order. The breakfast area was awful. No fruit. No real breakfast options. We paid this amenities fee and for what? Nothing worked.

The room itself was nice however the pullout coach was dirty. The sheet on it did not look like it had been washed in months. There was hair on the clean towels and you could tell the shower wasn’t cleaned prior to our stay. There was left over shampoo bottles from previous guests which indicated the shower wasn’t cleaned and the ceiling had water damage.

It’d sad to see such a historical hotel go downhill. Hopefully management changes and they are able to fix what’s broken.

When it came to the card hold when checking in, the sign on the front that said a $100 hold would be charged to the card on file, was not actually true. We woke up on our last day to numerous “random” charges which I went to inquire about. The system does not charge the stay as a whole which is interesting but would have been nice to know you’re charged per day and then an additional charge for the amenities (which again don’t even work and not sure why we had to pay for this). The guy at the front desk couldn’t even explain the charges and we figured it out after asking for a printed bill. On top of basically no staff - the staff onsite doesn’t know how to do their job.

There was a wedding the same weekend and I heard the guests were really unhappy as well with cold food.

I wouldn’t stay here again

A gem out in the sticks.
Steakhouse and Ice Cream Parlor are only open seasonally or for weddings/special events.
Super nice property, rooms were very nice, very clean. Super comfortable beds. Food and Beer at the on site bar were incredibly well priced.
The arcade was open and all machines were working, 3 pinball machines on site, pool table at the bar.

We liked everything about the resort, except the Chef. We wanted to order a pizza for the Packers game, but we were informed the Chef only uses a Vegan cheese topping, and that he REFUSED to substitute.

On the menu it states 12” and 16” CHEESE pizzas. (That’s confusing) It also lists a gluten free crust option. Why not have the Vegan cheese as an option? That way, everyone is happy. He used real cheese for my quesadilla. It wasn’t that he was simply out of cheese, he wants to make everyone eat something he chooses. It’s Pizza for the crying out loud, not Beef Wellington.

Three things I know from 50 years in the business world are that:
1) The Customer is always right.
2) The Customer is always right.
3) The Customer … ( you get my drift).
That Chef wouldn’t work long for me.

My husband and I came to celebrate our 20th anniversary this weekend. We were really looking forward to the updates since new ownership, as we haven't been there in probably 15 years. The room was nice, but everything else was understaffed. Their website is outdated, so when I read that we should meet at the Pro shop to pick up our rented UTV, the Pro shop was closed. I then walked down to where I saw the UTVs parked, 15 minutes later, a young man picked us up in a golf cart just to take us BACK to the front desk (where everybody said the website is wrong - ok, please get it updated!) where our UTV was brought to us. We had to ask for maps, etc. (Having not taken the trails in over a decade, some direction would've been nice.) Trying to make reservations at the Steakhouse on Saturday night took more effort than necessary as well. After standing at the "Please Wait To Be Seated" sign for a hostess for 20 minutes, we were finally seated, only for 2 other full tables of people tell us that they'd been waiting for almost 2 hours for their food. It was already after 8:00 and didn't feel like waiting any longer, so luckily The Boundary Waters was able to acommodate us, as they also did on Friday. One of the biggest let downs was that the hot tub was STILL out of order (it didn't work when we were here 15 years ago, too! Then WHY is there water in it). The golf was nice and easy to get on the course. I think this resort is overpriced and I'm not sure what the resort fee covered, as we still had to pay for golf and utv-ing. We won't be back for quite some time.

My husband and I stopped in the Boundary Waters bar/restaurant for dinner Saturday, August 10. We have a vacation cabin near The Four Seasons and stop frequently at The Lounge bar and Boundary Waters. We’ve always had good food and good service. Not this past Saturday. We both ordered the prime rib special, mine with mashed potatoes, his with French fries. It was horrible, truly bad. The prime rib was very dark brown, very dry and not hot. There was no wonderful juiciness or tenderness that I love about prime rib. My mashed potatoes were barely warm and the gravy congealed on top. My husbands French fries were good though. Honestly, this was the worst restaurant meal I have ever had. I am not exaggerating. I cannot believe they served something so truly bad.||We sat at the bar and the servers truly looked embarrassed although the food quality is not their fault. We frequent The Four Seasons since our cabin is so close but we’re questioning if we will ever go back.
