Ah, the Sunday dinner place
I have come here more times I could count with my hands and toes.

I'm going to start by saying the staff is amazing, they're always on top of the service.
If you have coffee, that cup is always full.
We always get the same server some how, she's very nice.

The food.
Well.
The food is okay.
I've had a LOT of dishes here, and everything is consistently okay. There is some niche things that are absolutely amazing like fried chicken or the brisket/corned beef/bagels
Others are extremely hit and miss like the potatoes.

This place is nostalgic more than anything.
It's a cool place to see the older people and go there and relax when you're hungover on a Sunday morning.
I've been going for years and will continue going.

D.Z. Akin's is a San Diego treasure! From the warm welcome to the amazing food, everything about this place feels like a step back in time—in the best way possible. Richard and I stopped by, and I ordered the latkes, which were golden and crisp perfection. I grabbed a side of breakfast hash for Richard to-go, and let’s just say he gobbled it up in the car without hesitation!

With an incredibly extensive menu featuring everything from classic deli staples to comforting homestyle meals, plus awesome daily specials, there's always something delicious to try! The service was excellent—friendly, quick, and attentive. The interior is full of charm, with cute murals, retro photos of famous guests through the years, and a cozy, classic Jewish deli vibe. They even have a gift shop packed with unique finds that make you linger a little longer.

The deli cases are bursting with tempting items, and the selection of sweets will have you planning your next visit before you leave. I went home with a Cobb Salad, a few bagels, and some Matzo Ball soup. Delicious! This is the kind of place where you feel the love in the food and the atmosphere. A must-visit for anyone craving homestyle cooking or a nostalgic dining experience. Can’t wait to come back! 🥯🥪✨

This place has a lovely gift shop a wonderful Bakery and a great family friendly restaurant. It is a Jewish run restaurant and all the food is kosher. I recommend that the homemade corned beef hash. My hubby had the chicken fried steak with a side of biscuits and gravy. Breakfast is come with a choice of toast, English muffin, Bagel or biscuits and gravy

The second time I've had the pleasure of enjoying (mostly) jewish food. I think my favorite was the matzo ball soup, second to that- the Matzo ball soup-- so I would definitely recommend both of them. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and it was neat to be able to see all the various celebrities who have also enjoyed this restaurant/bakery. They also have a nice gift shop as well. Will definitely be back

We had a great meal. Kiki was our server. I had the Ruben with Pastrami with a side of macaroni salad. My Aunt had the barley soup with Pastrami sandwich. Recommend both meals to others.

Our food and experience was good but I'm not sure it lived up to the hype. Just my personal opinion but I think it's a solid 4 out of 5. I did appreciate all the variety on their menu though.

DZ Akins never disappoints! It is the premiere San Diego location for fine deli fare. Need delicious sandwiches for the week? Order their fine deli meat by the pound. Need a warm, satisfying meal on a chilly night? Order a plated meal delivered to you. I’ve never had a bad bite here, and it’s my go-to for so many meals. Could not be happier with this wonderful deli.

Our son highly recommended this place so we thought we'd try it. It did not disappoint. Food was good but just a little pricey. But you did get large portions. I got half of an avocado on my chicken sandwich. Lots of selections at the bakery. Menu was a little overwhelming, there were so many choices, it took forever to decide. Breakfast is served all day so that's a plus!! The menu does cater to dietary restrictions. It was a great experience, I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back for breakfast.
